The only thing good about The Deck Doc was the price.
John came out for an estimate to repair/replace an existing deck on one of our rental properties.  From start to finish, communication was an issue, as he was very unresponsive.  John never answers his phone and does not call back or respond to phone calls, e-mails or text messages, for days and weeks.  After one week with no response, we started calling around to get other estimates and then he miraculously called and said he could get started that weekend.
After meeting with him, he suggested that the deck did not need to be replaced.  He suggested replacing a few boards and explained that there is product out there, particularly Rust Oleum 10x that would fill in all of the cracks and restore the decking.  We promptly received the estimate on a Sunday evening along with before and after pictures of similar decks that he had worked on.  He mentioned that he could get started that week.
Since this was a rental property and we did not want to inconvenience our tenants, communication was vital.  After speaking with our tenants, we emailed, texted and called him several times to no avail.  When he finally committed to doing the job, it took three weeks from start to finish and the entire job only took 1 1/2 days. He spent one full Saturday power washing and a week or so later, he spent a few hours sanding and applying two coats of stain.  The stain should have been applied over two days, not two coats back-to-back within 3 hours.
We were not impressed with the outcome, as the deck looked exactly the same, just with a fresh coat of stain on it.  In hindsight, the deck should have been replaced, but, he assured us that was not necessary.  One week later, we noticed rust spots popping up all over the deck.  I immediately called him and here we are, four days later and he still has not responded.  This, after we expressed our frustration with his lack of communication and he apologized for it.
Based on his scheduling, I take it this a side job for him.  His price was better than others, but, that's not as important to me as getting the job done right, in a timely manner and with follow-up should there be any issues.

Nate and John got back to me quickly to set up time for an estimate. We decided to use them, and they were able to start later that week. They worked hard to get the old stain off with power washing and scrubbing. Then two days later they returned to repair the railings and put the new stain on. They sanded down rough spots and put two coats of stain on. It looks beautiful, and two days later when it rained the rain beaded up on the deck just like in a commercial! We're very happy.

The work was begun on time, and he showed up until being finsihed with consistency and punctuality, weather permitting.

As stated above, I feel deceived in the quoting and finished product stages. he was unresponsive when asked for another quote to and quot;finish the job.and quot;
Response from The Deck Doc

"[member name removed] was a pleasant man to work for and on top of that a great man for he served our country well! Thank you [member name removed]. I do not believe I was deceitful in any way as we both looked over the deck very closely and everything was completed that was on the estimate. The job description was very clear and measurements of the job prove that. He asked me if I planned on coming back and I said that I would but to let me know since staining the underside of a deck is always per request. I never heard back from him other than this comment on Angie's List. I wish I could have resolved the issue better but I never heard back. I take pride in my work and want to make each customer satisfied before I leave and he was satisfied after we both looked everything over before I left."

Obtained estimate from him, Schedule the work. John, a young family man, did the work and finished in time for memorial day event. We had rain every day which prevented him from applying the stain. Friday before memorial day, the only dry day, John came and worked non stop to finish the stain and deliver on his commitment.
