Boats
$140
I dropped my Sea Doo Challenger 180 off for service in August 2011 for winterizing & to replace a shaft seal that was damaged when rope was sucked into the impeller.  After 2 weeks, they called and told me that the boat required over $2000 worth of repairs.  They also recommended another $1000 to replace a couple washers in the super charger.  I questioned some of the requirements which sounded like manufacturer defects and was told they were no longer "authorized" Sea Doo service center (Sea Doo sign is still posted by the entrance).  After some back & forth(through 10/20), I OK'd the winterization ONLY and told them I would take the boat to an authorized dealer for the rest of the issues.  A week later I called and asked if it was ready and was told it could be picked up any time.  30 minutes later they called and said there was water in the engine and would require at least 2 hours to diagnose(remove header).  I told them not to do anything and I would pick up shortly.  I got there within an hour and paid for dis-assembly of the pump(which they tried to double bill) and partial winterization.  I was directed to the service bay to get my boat which they & I were surprised to find out was the wrong boat.  My boat was out back and had no known water damage.  I believe the shop planned this "surprise" when I refused to authorize the service.  I did get a refund for the partial winterization service.I took my boat to an authorized service center and paid about $1000 for repairs and parts.  I believe many of those costs were due to problems caused by Highway Marine.  I was lucky to get away from Highway Marine for only $140.  It could have been MUCH worse.
