As weather is a factor in pool painting the contractor did not commit to the specific dates that work would be performed. I emptied the tank according to the contract and contacted the company to inform them that the pool was ready to be refinished. A few days later two men arrived and without announcing their presence immediately acid power washed the tank in a few hours. The surface was left very rough as there were patches of bare concrete adjacent to areas where thick paint remained. A few days of rainy weather left me pumping out and cleaning the pool while I awaited fairer weather. There was a nor?easter forecast to slam the area so I was surprised to look out my back window and find the two men painting the pool. They quickly applied the paint. They finished by sprinkling sand on the surface to keep the pool from being slippery. Unfortunately the sand was defective and applied unevenly. They dashed off before the storm hit. The next morning I awoke to find that the storm filled the pool with a variety of plant and tree debris. The dirt and debris had stained and stuck in the paint. In a telephone conversation with the contractor I was informed that I should use bleach to scrub the stains. I found that three days effort scrubbing the surface by hand with a brush and bleach (6 gallons) did indeed remove most of the stain. In conclusion: I spent about three times as much time in the tank as the painter did. The sand was not spread evenly leaving areas that are slippery. The sand contained some metallic particles that are now revealing small dots of rust. The finish is uneven in texture and color as some areas were taken down to bare concrete leaving a moonscape. And finally, when removing the cover this spring I found that the paint blistered a peeled on much of the area above the waterline. This project was a disastrous waste of time and money.
