I can only say good things about Mike Evangelist. Mike and his co-worker John, were excellent.  First of all they asked a lot of questions and then went on to survey the area of our and the subsequent water damage.  They also uncovered other areas leaks and water damage that we weren't even aware of. They were so honest and displayed a lot of integrity during the whole process. In the end they even referred us to contractors who do the kind of repairs needed.  I would highly recommend them to anyone as a starting point when having roofing leaks.  Thanks Mike Evangelist!

I called in the morning and left a message on the machine.  Mike Evangelist called back shortly thereafter. They came to our house shortly after lunch and found the issue that was causing the mark on my ceiling.  It wasn't a drippy leak, but it had obviously been wet. The cause was the rusty nail, and while he was up there, said all 4 of my vent pipe flashings showed signs of failure (cracks and shrinkage).  It would be $400 to replace each flashing and he would waive the normal $175 fee for fixing the rusty nail issue.

Everything was finished within about an hour or so.  It seems rather expensive to me for what was done, but I suppose that is what happens.  On a positive note, the flashing repairs are guaranteed for the life of the roof (which should be about 15 more years).

Had leaks from the vent pipes in the bathrooms when it rained. Originally the leak was contained to the kitchen ceiling only during the nastiest of storms with high winds. A second leak appeared three days before an incoming rain storm. Contacted Buckwalter Roofing in Royersford, PA weeks prior about the first leak. He said he'd be out. After three appointments and Buckwalter a no-show for all three (the final appointment just one day before the rain storm) we contacted Mike Evangelist. He was enroute to another job but stopped by to check out the problem. We had done some investigating and were 95% sure the leaking was due to the vent pipes. He went up on the roof and sure enough, they were shot. They replaced all three (only two were leaking but the third was worn and hey, now the problem is fixed before any leaking at all). Yes, it was pricey ($400 per vent) but the problem is solved and the fix was far better than what we were originally going to do (basically just MacGyver it up because the roof only has another 10 yrs of life). The new pipes have double rubber gaskets surrounding the pipe, leak problem completely resolved. Very satisfied with the response, professionalism, and prompt attention from Mike Evangelist and would highly recommend him. He is a former roofer who now specializes in leaks. He knows his stuff, if you have a roof that doesn't need to be replaced but is leaking, give him a shout.

Mike returned my call within an hour and he arrived at my house shortly after. His assistant went up on the roof and got pictures of the issue and then discussed my options with me. We had storm damage, but also wanted an overall check to see if the roof was still in good shape Mike and his assistant found that the rings surrounding the pipes that go through the roof had deteriorated and were probably already leaking to some extent, though this was not evident from the inside of the house yet. Mike matched the shingles up exactly from the roof damage, and you would never know that there was ever an issue. Also, they replaced the rings around all of the pipes - this was the really costly part. Mike was very professional, personable and took the time to answer all of my questions adequately. I would definitely call him again if needed.

Mike and his employee arrived when they said they would, calling once to update the ETA one time. They did a thorough evaluation of the problem, using infrared search for wet spots and then an on-the-roof inspection. They they provided pictures of the roof to describe the problem, and a detailed explanation of what they proposed to do and how much it would cost. They completed the work right then and within a little over an hour the work was done.
Next day we had a torrential rain storm and again two days after that, and the roof is no longer leaking.

I love Mike Evangelist, he is professional, and timely. I have used him for about 20 years, and he has got the camera attachement for a laptop, so the person going up on the roof, can take the pictures and send them down for you to see them. I feel that he is very fairly priced, he is very prompt. He told me a long time ago, to draw any pencil lines around any leaks so that if it grows bigger, you know that it is not an old leak stain. He branched out into leaky windows, and I can't say enough good things about him. He has a helper but he come out himself.

$1,975
Mike showed up on time and quoted me $395 each to replace five leaking roof vents. He explained that the shingles around each vent would be removed and the flashings replaced. Although I am sure the work was professionally done, and I have no issues with the quality of the repair, I was left feeling that I had been overcharged. The entire project took approximately two hours with one man on my roof and Mike on the ground helping. For $1,975 I had expected it to be a lot more work than what it turned out to be. I researched the materials cost after they left, and do not believe it was more than couple hundred dollars. Therefor, his labor charges came out to about $400/hour per person. I would strongly suggest that anyone get several quotes before agreeing to his prices.

Update: 3 weeks later roof leaked again in same spot at first bad rainstorm. I called Mike and he came out to assess. He said the vent pipe flashings were installed properly and that was not why our den ceiling was currently leaking. I told him this leak was the primary reason we called him 3 weeks ago. Yes, we had told him we suspected the roof vent pipes to be leaking. However, I also mentioned that the worst leak in the house was not directly under any of the pipes. It was certainly my expectation that if I had another problem causing even more damage than the leaking vent pipes that he would see that. Today, he told me that fixing this separate issue would be additional money and was not included in the $1,975 previously paid. I refused to pay him anything more and he left. Bottom line, to the best of my knowledge he did fix the roof vent pipes but my ceiling is still leaking.
Response from MIKE EVANGELIST
"Company Response: Thank you for taking the time to offer your opinion about the quality of our work. We always strive to offer the highest quality materials that offer the greatest longevity in order to avoid future reoccurrence. As our customers are aware, we can often offer a solution for repair in lieu of roof replacement. You called us to perform a specific repair. We offed to do a full inspection, but were informed that your husband had isolated the leaks. We were on time and we did the repair. Prior to the commencement of any work, we always provide photos of the areas in need of repair and offer to explain the exact repair process and cost, as well as the quality of the materials that we incorporate into the repair. After the repair, we offer additional photos of the repair(s) to highlight the quality of our work. The average roofing contractor would have most likely taken significantly longer for these repairs, most likely used inferior materials and would have most likely suggested a whole or partial roof replacement costing you significantly more. We are efficient, because it is our specialty; we are honest because we explain all of our pricing up front and document our work with before and after photos. I apologize if you felt that it should have taken loner, but I am proud of the quality of our work and the efficiency of my crew. If you are ever in need of additional services, or the repairs that we completed give you any trouble, please feel free to contact me directly.thank you , mike evangelist."

Mike was quick to respond to my call and setup an appointment.
He arrived on time and quickly assessed the damage and provided a quote.
Quote was reasonable and the work was performed immediately
I have used his services in the past and his work has remained intact where as original shingles continued to be an issue.

Thanks to Angie's List, this story has a happy ending. After several attempts to contact Mike by phone and email over a period of a couple of weeks, I received no response regarding the leak in my great room. I was very disappointed as he was highly recommended by a contractor I use on a regular basis and whose opinion I trust. Angie's List contacted Mike and within a day or two, he and a colleague personally drove out to my residence, got up on my very steeply sloped roof, assessed the issue as leaky ventpipe flashings and quickly fixed the problem. I have not had any leaks in my great room since Mike fixed the vent flashings two months ago. Due to the miscommunication, Mike was kindly reduced the cost of the consultation as a result.

I got his number from a roof installation company that doesn't do repairs but recommended Mike's company. I left a message on Monday afternoon, Mike called back that evening and came around the next day. He asked for details while on the phone (including the color of my shingles) and told me he'd come and take a look, give me a quote and, if that suited me, do the job while he was here. They turned up almost exactly on time, Mike introduced himself and gave me a card, took a look at the roof, took pictures, printed them out to show me the damage (genius!) and talked about solutions. He was obviously an experienced craftsman and I felt very comfortable accepting his quote. The job was done in under two hours and Mike was an absolute pleasure to deal with.
