This is the subcontractor hired by Pella windows and doors (without our input). Pella doors are known as the best, and the quality of the doors is excellent. However, I do not think I will ever order another pella door or window because they use this contractor to install.
I purchased $10,000 worth of sliding doors (two exterior doors) from a new salesman. The doors were a special order and took about six weeks to be made. The Gunton contractors came to my house with both doors, and installed one of them. Very poorly. It was bowed, and wouldn't slide easily. The safety lock wasn't clicking because of the bowing of the door. Unfortunately, my wife and I weren't home at the time of the install, and the salesman (who was supposed to inspect the install) wasn't here either. I later found out that he was fired by Pella.
They left at three o'clock, without installing the second door. They left the second door on my back porch.
When I came home and was eating dinner, my wife informed me that earlier there was a loud bang on the porch. The door fell over onto our patio furniture. The brand new door was significantly damaged. I tried, without success, to call Pella/ Gunton many times. No human being or replies came back. I was extremely mad and frustrated.
The next day, the Gunton people came back, and I happened to be home. They were muddling around my porch for a few minutes before I went outside to talk with them. They were anything but friendly! You would have thought they would have been very apologetic. Instead they simply said "We will have to order a new door." I asked them to expedite the new door, considering the fact that we had already waited six weeks for this door. They told me "it was an act of god." I believe it was an act of stupidity! They could have left the door in my house or garage, instead of a windy back porch in Winter. Or they could have stayed a few hours more than 3 pm and completed the job, like they were supposed to.
So, I went to work and they left with the door. When I got home from work, my Nanny told me that they had a conversation with her, suggesting that I sabotaged the door! Can you believe that? Why would I knock over a beautiful brand new wood door that we waited six weeks for? They also told her how much THEY were going to have to reimburse Pella for the damage. So now, my nanny knows how much money we spent on the doors. Certainly not information she should be privy to. Then they told her that they offered me $500 off the door if we kept it and "filled in the wood." This was never offered to me, nor would I have ever accepted a damaged door that needed to be filled! This guy is clearly a liar.
Eventually, Pella got the new door in. Another contractor installed it (and did a great job), and pulled out and reinstalled the other door. This entire experience was a disgrace! I need to redo many other doors and windows, as my home is quite old, and I will definitely not use Gunton again!
