Giving 1 star is even painful.  Wow, we had such an incredibly bad experience with Bekins!  People need to BEWARE/  We had the same experience as he did with mis-quoting...showed up without the right boxes to pack TV & mirrors & then of course charged us more for those.  Truck they sent wasn't nearly big enough so had to send another the next day which backed up to our settlement on the house, how very inconvenient.  Even though it was evident the first minute the truck pulled up that it wasn't going to fit our stuff. And did I mention the customer service woman was severely rude every time we spoke?!  Just like in previous reviewer's case our items were then handled SO poorly.  Just about every piece of wood furniture was at minimum scratched, some broken.  Boxes were crushed, dishes, glasses broken.  To top it all off our stuff was in their storage for 6 weeks and items were STOLEN.  Very high value items.  All in all though the owner, Craig Schloer, has handled the claim incredibly badly.  They said they gave us all this "insurance" and come to find out (after we went through the trouble of filing the claim) the so called insurance doesn't include theft of items while in storage.  How convenient.  He even wouldn't as a sign of good faith refund any portion of the over $5,000 that we paid him.  And never apologized for a thing...go figure.  RUN to any other moving & storage vendor.

This company packed, moved, stored and delivered my high end furniture and other items. Upon delivery extensive damage noted to furniture including but not limited to puckering and shrinkage of silk upholstery of two chairs, crushed antique alabaster clock, antique black walnut grandfather cracked off base, gouges and separation of inlay on Italian cocktail table, chipped and cracked lacquer on antique oriental screen, broken (in 3) marble top to dresser, and these are just a few items. There are more. The majority of my items were damaged in some way, from minor chips to water and humidity damage, to rather severe damage. Several cannot be repaired and have to be replaced.  I expect a ding or two, but this was nothing like I have ever seen in any of my previous moves. Moreover, the items in the wardrobes came so wrinkled that professional steam cleaning will be needed to remove the wrinkles and there were items missing. I've moved many times with many different movers, and have never had my items arrive in this condition. I can certainly get my items replaced or repaired to some extent, but the wrinkles in my clothing will cost a lot to steam out professionally. I doubt that insurance will cover that and I will have to eat that cost, as well as the deductible after all of the claims are settled.
The interesting thing is that the moving guys decided that ALL of my furniture had gouges, scratches or breakage, including those pieces that arrived with none of the above and are in great shape. They also marked my oriental carpets as being torn and stained. This was remarkable insofar as my carpets had just come back from being cleaned, re-fringed and mothproofed prior to the move and had not even been unrolled until they arrived at my new home -- at which time they were in perfect condition.
I contacted the owner on the day of unpacking about the extensive damage. She asked no questions, offered no apology, expressed no concern, simply told me to file a claim. I later found  complaints on consumer sites that could have been a carbon copy of what happened to me, including the response. I should not have relied on the BBB (which aggregates data) for my information, I should have gone to other sources for a list of this carrier's complaints.

We were very pleased with their service and we would use them again. We moved in August and they stored our items through November. We would recommend them to others.

It was a fair to good experience. They disassembled a lot of items but things are necessarily made to be disassembled in the sake of space. They had a difficult time putting things back together and didn't get everything put back together properly. They were very flexible about scheduling.

The intial estimate was wonderful. The estimator and the contact with company was nice. When the movers came, they said they would pack fragile items as noted on estimate (no plasma tvs) and move items. It was a two day move. 1/2 of our 3500 sq ft home the first day and 1/2 the next. There was probably 500-750 sq feet of furniture and items they did not move because we were taking things to goodwill, throwing out or needed more time to go through before totally moving out of our old home. They initially did try to comply with keeping our carpets clean, they put down plastic wrap, I had booties for them to wear, but they kept tearing (multiple pairs) and it just became easier for me to have both homes steam cleaned. We never wear shoes in our home, so it was a bill I had not planned on, but it is what it was. There was substantial damage to our old home from moving large items up from the finished basement to the main floor. Wall damage, spindle damage on the stair (broken in half). I was alone with two kids taking them to and from camp, so on the last day, the movers said they HAD to leave. They would not wait for me to go pick up my children and return home. I HAD to pick them up (one with special needs) from camp and so they would not wait for me to inspect all the items (lots of furniture mind you, from 19 years of marriage!). I asked if the company would allow me to inpsect my goods later and fill out the damage report. Ryan, the driver (who is no longer employed there) said YES, just sign. So idiot I was, I signed. Later I found lots of damage to office furniture, a cracked mirror in the china cabinet, huge scratches on our kids furniture, missing glass from an end table (which the driver called and said he had and would deliver it the following month, but it never happened) and damage to my new home as well. So after I submitted the damage report in 60 days (90 was the limit), I called them after 90 days (to which they said my claim had been sitting on their desk for 30 days, but they don't know "why" it had not been processed) and... I was told that my claim of $1000, was only good for $375 (but I was not allowed to inspect before the movers left because I had to leave to pick up my children from camp which was nearer to my old home (over 1 hour drive round trip)). I also paid $450 of full value replacement insurance, a lot of good that did. When I consulted our attorney, who charges $300/hour about the difference in my claim and their check, it wasn't worth it to have him spend hours to get our $625 back because we would spend more than our claim. Bottom line...do NOT sign anything until you have inspected EVERYTHING. Do not be nice and make them WAIT and never tip them $50 per person (plus lunch the previous day and any beverages they wanted in our refrigerator to keep them hydrated) because they could care less about your goods, your home or the well being of your family! The pccasional comments about how much of a bigger house we were moving into compared to our old (whether we had enough room--being facetious) was inappropriate and unnecessary. I never complained about the unprofessional comments. I won't choose Bekin again. EVER. The only thing that was fair was the price. But I did not know I would spend thousands more in repairing furniture and both homes as well as the clean up...

"We're sorry to hear things didn't go as well as you had expected! --The movers will bring floor protection to every move. They'll lay this down to protect carpets and hardwood floors. If the weather is looking messy, we'll bring extra. In the event that the carpets are dirtied despite the floor protection being used, you can file the cleaning expense in a claim. Regardless of whether or not you purchased Full Value Coverage or not, it is our legal liability to protect the floors, walls, banisters, carpets, etc. --We always suggest that you plan your move day accordingly! If you know you'll be moving on a particular day, please plan to be there the entire day. If you have children at camp that need to be picked up, we suggest asking a friend or family member to pick them up for you. Your attendance is required and expected! --Its always best to submit a claim as soon as possible. We don't expect you to inspect the entire contents of the home before we leave, but it is suggested to file the claim as soon as possible. Our claims department reviews every claim. In this circumstance, the claim of $1000 was for the full value of the goods rather than the cost of repair. Full Value Coverage will cover your goods for "their full replacement value, or the cost of repair -- whichever is less". --I can assure you that our movers do care about your goods. The average length of employment with Bekins for our movers is 8 years. Most of them have been doing is for a very long time. We appreciate the feedback, as we're always striving to improve our quality of service."
