Frank was very responsive to my initial inquiry. Then once I confirmed I was ready to proceed, he immediately got everything started. The men that installed both doors were extremely polite and professional. I would not hesitate to use this company again.

My initial inquiry was answered promptly, and the estimate was handled very professionally. When it came time to do the work, the team came on time. They were all pleasant people who worked quickly and efficiently. They cleaned up after themselves, so the house looked as if they'd never been there - except now I have new, beautiful, weather tight windows. I could not be happier.

The owner Frank came in and charged quite a lot for a simple fix to a couple windows. One was just an alignment which took ten minutes and the other two a minor adjustment which took fifteen minutes. He gave me an form that looked like an order that was billing me in the amount of $2618 for a door and a double hung, double pane window. I only needed an estimate and it did not state what type of material would be used. Most of what he discussed was not on the form.
Response from The Window Factory

"(Removed member name) called me because she had a 3rd floor window whose top panel would not budge; she expressed that is was very important that it open. The window now works properly. There were two 2nd floor apartment windows that would not lock. I discovered why, got them to lock, and showed the tenant how to prevent the problem in the future. Two problems that have existed for some time, two solutions, and now I am the bad guy. (Removed member name) thinks my time on the job was 25 minutes, but she forgets that I had to drive there and drive back to the office, AND I know what I am doing. (Removed member name) also wanted a price on a window and entry door. She asked that I leave her something in writing, so I pulled out a small sales slip and marked the service as paid and detailed the window and door specifics and pricing. For her to say that the information I left was vague is balderdash. The door especially is described in detail down to the paint color. I think (Removed member name) is mad because she had to pay to get her windows fixed."

Came on time, took apart frame to replace chain, cleaned up after job. Gave free advice about other windows when asked, all in less than an hour. Very professional and knowledgeable. Did repair and did not just try to sell new window.

Response from The Window Factory

"This was originally a repair call. When I arrived I found a very old and large three section slider window (30+ years old) that was very difficult to operate. [removed member name]'s chief complaint was that the window was leaking water. I told her that all the materials on the outside were worn out. The cost to repair would have been almost half the cost of a new window, and they would still have an old window that barely operated. [removed member name] made a wise choice to replace the window with an easy to operate and efficient new window."

They never said anything about the larger windows possibly being a problem and when I went to clean it the window came off the tracks. The provider came out after Thanksgiving and fixed the problem but wanted cash and had no receipt, I had him write a receipt up for the work. I haven't opened the window since because I am afraid it will come off the tracks again.
Response from The Window Factory

"I think most customers would be happy that their contractor came out seven years after the install and fixed the problem. I do not think there is anything wrong with asking for cash, which could be cash or a check, but not a charge card. [removed member name] focuses on many small minor points, but seems to shrug off the fact that she called and we came and solved her problem."

I know what the windows are like and I have been with 2 windows. I liked the windows and he did a good job removing them and installing the new. Once a person had told me that the windows were ugly and for a matter of fact they were. The windows he picked up, he personalized according to what fits your situation. He asks you a lot of questions and personalizes. In my situation he picked up a very pretty window and I don't open it much as I have an air conditioner. They are very nice and I am very happy with them. I will use them again in the future.

The Window Factory never completed the work for this job. I have a Life of The Home warranty on all labor and materials for any repairs necessary on windows installed in 200 by this company. I needed repairs from not being made right the first time. I telephoned for repair work. After almost 2 years had passed and this company discontinuing to respond to rebuttal statements that I mailed to the Better Business Bureau, I needed this serious problem resolved (health reason and heating costs) and no alternative but to take legal action.
During this first period, Mr. Frank Jahn's, (President) excuse for not doing the repairs was and quot;Window parts are obsolete, cannot get them anymore.and quot; I appealed the decision of the first hearing which was in the company's favor. Fortunately I had found the name of the company that supplies the materials for these windows in my records and contacted them. Their management stated the following; 1. All parts to fix my windows are available. 2. The only change made to window parts was that weather stripping is now made in black. (Both Mr. Jahn and I received white weather stripping from this company to fix my back windows.) 3. The Window Factory has a lifetime warranty with this company for all parts. The only change to The Window Factory for parts is mailing fees.
The January 27, 2010 hearing award was in my favor. The Window Factory did not appeal. Their attorney however sent me a letter and release form to sign. The attorney's March 17, 2010 letter states: and quot;My client is prepared to pay you the award in your favor for $750. The proper procedure for doing this is that you sign the enclosed release, and then file what is called a praecipe to mark the award paid with the Dept. of Court Records on the first floor of the City County Building.and quot; and quot;Upon receipt from you of the enclosed release and confirmation that you have marked the award paid and the case settled, we will immediately arrange to have a check sent to you from the Window Factory.and quot;
This Definitely was not the proper way procedure and I did not sign the release form. Also, The Window Factory, in addition to the amount in my favor, owed me for filing, appealing, and judgment fees, etc. There was no mention of these additional costs in his attorney's letter. As I did not receive payment from the company, a Sheriff's Sale was scheduled for June 7, 2010. Payment in full by The Window Factory was received by me from the Sheriff's Office on July 30, 2010.
After contacting a number of window repair companies, The Window Factory is the only company in Pennsylvania that can service these windows. I have requested a written contract from The Window Factory for the repair work. He has refused my letter to him sent by Certified Mail and has again not responded to my correspondence which BBB sent to Mr. Jahn.
In a fax to BBB dated 02/12/08, Mr. Frank Jahn says and quot; When no can perform services, we do it.and quot; My windows still have not been repaired and he has no solid excuse for not fixing them.

Overall, the Window Factory did a satisfactory job. The price was as quoted, the installation was on schedule and the workers did an adequate installation job. I was glad I was present during the install to monitor their work - they laid the caulk too think for my taste, but they were responsive to my request that they go thinner. The clean-up was less than ideal as I had small quantities of broken glass and old caulk outside below the windows.

They didn't get back to me very quickly, I had to track them down. They told me the guy was sick, but I didn't feel like waiting around and I needed the windows right away. They were really good on coming out for the quote. They gave me a good price and the windows they showed me looked pretty good. It was between them and the company I ended up going with. I understand the guy was sick, but don't you have other sales people who can answer my questions. The initial response was good, the end responsiveness was lacking. Then when the guy came back from being sick he went on a tour of the Window Factory and evidently because of that he was unavailable. It didn't make sense to me.
Response from The Window Factory

"WHY POST AN OPINION OF A PERSON WHO NEVER HAD US DO ANY WORK? THESE HOMEOWNER COMMENTS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH OUR WORK OR PROCEDURES FOR DOING THE WORK. PEOPLE WHO DON'T BUY DON'T HAVE THE SAME PERCEPTION OF A COMPANY AS THOSE WHO DO BUY FROMN THAT COMPANY. IN ONE SENTENCE HE SAYS WE WERE SLOW IN GETTING BACK TO HIM, BUT IN ANOTHER SENTENCE HE SAYS WE "WERE REALLY GOOD ON COMING OUT FOR THE QUOTE." WHICH WAS IT? IT CAN'T BE BOTH."

We used this company as we had just bought our home and had used most of our ready cash for closing and had to finance the replacement windows. We did not know how bad the windows were until we moved in and lived with them for a while. Our home inspector had missed the level of damage on our purchase inspection so financing was key. They had a great financing program and offered a very good quality energy star rated vinyl replacement window product. We met Frank Jahn who was our salesperson and he came across a little pushy but offered us a good deal as we wanted to install sills as well as our windows. We later learned that he had made an error and had forgotten to charge us for the wood which is why the deal was so good. We were originally only going to get the few really damaged windows done but they were all casement and I dislike casement windows, He made us a package deal for the whole house with great interest rates and we knew we would qualify for the tax credit as well so we opted to go for the whole house minus the bow window in our living room. We also had an unsecure patio door with damage that had to be replaced and it had been a custom size so we needed some carpentry to make the opening standard. Frank gave us an install estimate of October but the windows were not finished being made until November. He then had to schedule the install so the project was not finished until December which was quite cold and unpleasant to live with. The glass block was subcontracted out but he was very professional and did an excellent job. I asked who they were but he said he wasn't supposed to tell me since he was contracted through the Window Factory. The window installer was really good. He was nice and did a nice job on the woodwork as well as the installation. He got it done in 3 days and the work quality was good. I did get the impression that Frank had over committed him and he seemed rushed, though he tried to hide it and the work didn't suffer much. Frank showed up on the job but he just seemed to get in the way a bit and slow things down more. We had other estimates from other companies. Some were less expensive but due to the error on the wood and the package deal we got, it made sense to go with them. Frank likes hard core selling, but I am a sales person myself and we made an educated choice based on the knowledge that we would have to have the rest of the windows done eventually. In fact we are considering finishing the house and getting the bow window done as well and we will give The Window Factory a call. I guess ultimately that is the true test. Would we use them again? Yes though we will give other companies an opportunity to bid too.

I thought they were very professional and good with the price. I thought I was going to have to get all new windows, they surprised me by giving me an alternate route to fixing it. The price was right and they were very quick with their services. I highly recommend them.
