Steel City Garage Doors

Hello everyone, My experience with Steel City Garage Doors was really not good and I feel like customers need to be aware of how this company operates. The first time we called them to get a quote, they were very professional over the phone and in person. However, there were a few problems that came up during the garage install and we soon found out how unprofessional this company was. The biggest issue for us was that the doors weren't aligned properly and there were gaps underneath the doors (so mice and vermin could easily get in). I was concerned about this and spoke to the owner of the company, who was incredibly rude to me on the phone and said there was nothing they could do; he eventually hung up on me. I am a woman and my husband and I were both shocked by his behavior. My husband said I was speaking politely and calmly. We decided to call A1 Garage Door in Pittsburgh to get a 2nd opinion and they came out and said the doors were installed unsafely. The spring-tension in the door needed to be fixed and that was the reason why the doors weren't aligned properly/looked funny. The installer from A1 Garage Doors said it was a safety concern for us and especially our children who liked to play around the garage, because the door could shoot up unexpectedly and someone could get hurt. A1 Garage Doors fixed our doors and now they look great! We had to pay another company to fix the mistakes made by Steel City Garage Doors because they were unwilling to rectify their mistake. We went with Steel City because they had good reviews. The entire experience was a surprise and disappointment to us. :(

Steel City came out quickly during the holidays to fix a broken cable. They handled the problem efficiently and were reasonably priced Most important, they took the time to tell me what they were going to do and why. I ended up learning a lot more about the door than I did before.

Our garage door broke on a Saturday and they came out same day to check it out. Very nice young man who worked with us to select a replacement. Install was quick and easy. Very pleased with the work they did,

They were flexible, came out on a Sunday within a couple hours, made some initial repairs and were very customer focused. I like that they consulted on what was best for us both with the product and the price.

Prompt, friendly, efficient. Gave me an estimate on a new garage door installation.

I got home from work at about 5:15pm. When the garage door closed, I heard the spring snap and the door fell probably the last foot. I figured I would change it myself, but I had a few challenges... the double door was way 2 heavy for me to lift. If I used tool to lift it, I could't get it back down slowly enough to not damage it or risk injury. I could borrow a car, but local hardware stores did not carry this type of spring. I started my search for an emergency repair. After a few disappointments I came across Steel City. The dispatcher checked for an available repairman and called my back in about 5 minutes. He asked if between 7 and 8pm would work. This was great! As promised, the repairman, Mo, arrived at about 7:30. We agreed on the price and in about 45 minutes he was done. We tested it a few times, I paid him and it was done. Crisis averted! Mo is very knowledgeable. Actually explained a few things to me about the load and weight distribution and how the lift system is designed to work. The springs and work is guaranteed 3 years, which is standard, but I am pretty confident it will last 10 to 15 or more.

The person showed up that morning and told us it would e $650 to replace the spring (very old type) or $2000 for a new door. We chose the new door since our old door was too heavy to open and very old. They showed up the next day, although much later than promised, and installed the new door. They also promised to haul away the old door. The new door worked well for about a week then the garage door opener stopped working. It took many days and phone calls to get the old door hauled away. The guy kept saying "trust me, it will get done" but day after day the old door sat in the driveway. It did finally get picked up just before Thanksgiving when we were having 20 people over. We still can't get the opener to work consistently.

Went great! David and team came out, gave us an estimate for a new garage door (not a standard size in an old garage), and a timeframe for completion. The estimate was competitive, the timeframe was exact and the team did an excellent job. We are very satisfied and would recommend them to anyone.
