Although the contract specified things in careful detail, some things were left out. For example, the railings beside the steps were never installed. When we asked about them, we were told that they couldn't be installed as designed -- yet Specialty had never mentioned that when the contract was signed. They also didn't know what they were doing when they installed the automatic pool cover, yet never admitted that they were inexperienced. We had a lot of trouble with the cover pulling loose from the fastenings holding it under the pool copings. They also told us the pool cover could be used in the winter when the pool is partially drained. We found out much later, in fact, that the pool cover was not designed to be used without being supported by the water, which resulted in the cover pulling the tracks out of the coping stones (cracking and chipping them in the process) and costing us many thousands more in repairs. As for their lack of professionalism (besides not knowing their business!), on one occasion I went over to check the progress of the pool construction on a weekend. As I came around a corner, hidden by bushes, I heard a man call out, "This feels great! It's washing all the sweat off me!" And there was one of the builder's relatives (I think his brother), and his wife, who had been sent to clean debris out of the filled pool (a net would have been the way to do it) , and had decided to jump in fully clothed in his work clothes -- washing off not only his sweat into our pool, but also dust and dirt. I kicked him out of the pool and complained to the company, but all I heard back was, "He's eccentric and a little funny!" I didn't find him funny at all.
