Sipes and Son did brick pointing and sealing near my front stoop and garage; installed a metal pipe column to support a ceiling/floor; and removed and replaced drywall in a ceiling so floor joists could be inspected. The price was not inexpensive, but I hired Sipes and Son because they have been in business for decades, and they have very good online reviews. All of the workers who came to my house were very courteous and performed their jobs well.

Sipes and son took care of an issue that I never knew was happening. Some trim came off during a windstorm and revealed years of water damage on a side wall of our house and worse, the sil plate had rotted. Chad came out very quickly after I called and looked over the project himself. The estimate was quickly forthcoming and we agreed on the price. His crew of 2/4 guys were always on time and very respectful of my neighbors yard (they had to build a a steel scaffolding on HIS property to work on this wall since our houses are 2' apart). We also had a building engineer come and make some recommendations, which of course added to the project. The project took about 2-3 weeks. This was in part due to the complexity of the problem and difficult access, but in the end all issues were addressed and I now believe my 120+ year old house has been stabilized. I would definitely choose Sipes and son for future projects, small or large. They have an outstanding attention to detail.

Sipes and Son did a great job for us. Chad Sipes gave us a fair and accurate estimate. The crew showed up on time on the day promised. The foreman reviewed the work to be done thoroughly and answered all of my questions. He also came up with a way to improve the support of the column at no extra cost. The entire crew was friendly, professional, neat, and they worked hard. The project was finished on time, to spec, and all cleanup was taken care of. I would definitely hire Sipes and Son again and recommend them without hesitation.

Sipes & Son performed major structural work on an addition in our old house. They fixed roof issues, reinforced a support beam, repaired countertops and restored the space seamlessly. Kept the space livable throughout the project. Talented crew - great attention to detail, punctual and hard working. Addressed all of our concerns. Very fair price.

Great guys, great work! I had a few estimates from some different contractors, but decided to go with Sipes and Son based, not just on their fair pricing, but also on their fantastic personalities. Chad was kind and attentive from day one and all of the guys who worked on my place (Eric, CJ, Charles, and Justin) were top notch! They knocked down three walls, installed new floors throughout my (now very open) living/dining/kitchen area, installed all new kitchen cabinets and island, cut holes for and installed 15 new recessed lights, did all of the trim work, did lots of mudding (just learned what that is!), and painted. All of this was done in a timely manner and, truthfully, I was expecting to have to clean up every evening when I returned home from work, but they were well organized and neat! They did such great work, I’ve decided to have them back to do a complete renovation of one of my bathrooms!

In summary: Working with Chad Sipes was frustrating. At the end he was definitely trying to either get out of the job early or gouge us unfairly (see below for details). In the end, we had to hire our own HVAC guy, our own flooring guy and our own drywall guy (isn't that a general contractor's job...?) We hired him initially because he was willing to work with our timing and was one of the few contractors willing to tear down our load-bearing wall within our budget. It later became clear that he was not making enough money on our project and was trying to gouge us and get out of the project early. We were completing some of the remodel ourselves to save money, and another reason we chose to go with him was because he seemed very willing to work with us in this way. He later complained about this which was frustrating. To be fair, they did a great job with removing the load-bearing wall. They cleaned up for us at the end of every day. The guys on site were so kind and caring. We were doing all of this with a newborn baby and they were nothing but accommodating. And the work that was done was done very well. However, working with Chad was so frustrating. I waited for about a month for an estimate for what to do with our ceiling (it was textured and since several different rooms became 1 when we tore the wall down, we needed some sort of smooth overlay). Our cabinets were going to be installed on a Monday, and Chad was aware of this (I reminded him every few days when I followed up every few days for the estimate). The Thursday before the install, he tells me it will cost $4500 to do an unfinished drywall overlay!!!! (to be clear, this was a perfectly rectangular room 10'x20') When I spoke with Chad about this estimate and where the $4500 was coming from, he told me some of his guys make $40/hr. I explained that even if there were 10 man hours on this job, and a sheet of drywall costs $15 so lets be generous and say $200 in materials, that is still less than $1000 so it didn't add up. He then told me he didn't need to justify his estimates to me and that he had other jobs that he was making more money on so he just wanted to be done with our project because he wasn't making enough money. (FYI, I called the first drywall guy I found on a google search and he came out Saturday and had it done beautifully in 3 hours and it cost $700). At the end of the project we still had a few loose ends that needed to be completed and Chad told us they wanted to move on to other projects, so we were left to find and hire our own people to finish up the project. When we got our final invoice, he charged us for a 5min phone conversation when we had a question about how he wanted us to prepare part of the wall for patching they were going to be doing the following day (and this was because we were tearing out part of the wall for him because he didn't want to do it...) Ultimately, we are happy to have a load-bearing wall removed and an open floor plan. The work completed was done very well. The crew on site was very kind and did good work. However, the difficulties of working with Chad, his ridiculous estimates and eventually essentially quitting the job early and leaving us to find and hire our own guys makes me STRONGLY recommend AGAINST hiring Chad.

We hired Sipes and Son to redo our bathroom and couldn't be happier with how it turned out. We initially were interested in working with them because we liked the aesthetic of the previous projects they had posted online and appreciated that they try to keep the historical character and detail of the spaces. It did take awhile to get on their schedule but that is only reflects the fact that they are in demand, a testament to their skill. They also were not the lowest quote as others have noted, but as they have experience with old buildings (ours is a condo from 1930) they factored in a reasonable amount of wiggle room for the unexpected things that are bound to come up in a building of that age. They also came in on budget! Lastly, Chad Sipes and all of the employees with whom we were in contact during the process were friendly, conscientious (I sent pictures to my friend who had recently had her bathroom remodeled and she commented how much less construction mess there was compared to her remodel), and knowledgeable. For example, we had a general idea of what tile pattern we wanted but Rob, who did most of the work on the project, came up with really creative solutions to some of the "unique" challenges of the space that we wouldn't have been able to think of ourselves.

The team at Sipes and Son was phenomenal from start to finish. Chad was so nice and so helpful - he really wanted to understand what our wants and needs were before we even got into the design process to make the best recommendations he could, rather than just doing whatever we wanted. He felt like a partner who was truly invested in getting us the best kitchen possible for our family as opposed to just a contractor doing what we paid him to do.

The crew was also amazing. Very knowledgeable, very friendly, and incredibly trustworthy. My wife and I never felt uncomfortable in any way, whether being home alone with them or leaving them alone at our house. They did great work and we are thrilled with our kitchen update.

All in all, I couldn't have imagined a better process. Highly HIGHLY recommend Chad and his team. 5 stars, A++, 100%, 10/10.

Routinely have this service performed by Sipes and Sons. Work has always been done in a professional manner, with high attention to detail (attributes I value most). In addition, performed in a timely fashion (factoring their schedule). Communication has also been good. Typically contact by email which has been convenient. Would recommend Sipes and Sons, one of the best contractors I've dealt with.

Chad came to our house about a month before the job to give us a quote and, as others have noted here, was very professional. He took time to listen to exactly what we wanted to have done and took notes. He followed up with a quote shortly after.
On the first day of the job, Chad came with the two guys who were doing the work and made sure that we were all on the same page. They were both were very polite and friendly any time we interacted with them. Since the work was on the third floor, they laid down drop cloths on the stairs and in the hallway leading upstairs. All of the work was done during the day when we were at work, we left keys and let them lock up after themselves, we had no trouble with this and everything was cleaned up by the time we got home every day.
The job was completed within the quoted time frame (probably even a little faster) and we are pleased with the finished product. The wood work to match our existing trim was very well done and is really a perfect match. Again, everything was cleaned up very well, and other than our new wall the room was left as it was before the job started.

Sipes and Son did not give us the lowest (or the highest) bid on our job, but we chose them, in part, because we really liked Chad. Chad came out for an estimate and immediately impressed us as the most refined, professional contractor we've ever dealt with (and--yikes!--we've dealt with many). He patiently reviewed the areas we thought needed some repair or maintenance and confirmed some of our concerns; for a few, however, Chad stated honestly that he didn't feel they warranted repair. This was so encouraging! I've grown so accustomed to contractors telling me that any job is much, much bigger than I assumed; it was refreshing to hear, for once, the opposite. Because we were unsure of how much we could afford to do at once, Chad gave us an itemized estimate. We decided to have all of the work done. The crew of two took three days to complete the work and, like Chad, was extremely polite and professional. They placed heavy dropcloths down two hallways and up two flights of stairs to protect our carpets, and our house remained spotless though the whole messy job. They were quiet, pleasant, and as unobtrusive as possible: no loud music, no embarassing-to-overhear conversation or foul language, none of the issues we've endured even with other good contractors. After the first day's work, my husband and I checked out the progress and had a few concerns about areas that the crew said were finished. I emailed Chad and he responded quickly, thanking me for bringing it to his attention right away and reassuring me that "all will be well." And it was! Chad came out and personally inspected the areas of concern early the next day and returned again at the end of the day to make sure everything was ok. Everything met or exceeded our expectations by the end. When the crew found rotted wood under the skylight, Chad emailed me to let me know that removing the wood might damage the drywall beneath and that we could hire him (or someone else) to repair any damage. We agreed to have the crew proceed with any necessary repairs but, happily, they managed to remove the wood and keep the drywall perfectly intact. Here, then, is still more evidence of how trustworthy and professional this company is. Even after we'd already agreed to pay more for additional repairs, they found a way to avoid the problem in the first place. Chad is also the most responsive, easy-to-reach contractor we've worked with. He responds within minutes to most emails and always in the most helpful, professional way I could hope for. I know this probably doesn't interest anyone but other English teachers like me, but, even in emails sent via iPhone, Chad's grammar and punctuation are impeccable. OK, yes, I'm a n***; but careful use of language conveys the kind of diligence and high personal standards that one wants in a contractor, right? That's what I tell myself, anyway. From start to finish, our experience with Sipes and Son was outstanding. This company sets a new standard for excellence, professionalism, and customer service.

Chad and his crew were easy to work with and did the job on time and on budget.  This job took a lot of planning, including securing the proper permits and scheduling work with several outside contractors.  We were required to re-route some of our fire sprinkler system and Chad was able to work with the fire inspector and get quotes from several sprinkler companies.  Dealing with those things would have made me stressed, so I was very pleased when they were able to work with the subcontractors.  This project was also logistically challenging because it was to take place while my retail shop was open to the public.  I was very happy when the crew put up a large plastic sheeting over the back section of the shop to keep out dust.  The project required a lot of sawing, and the crew was very accommodating to us when it got loud, going into the basement or in the alley at times when we had a number of people shopping in the store.  I was also very satisfied with their clean-up.  The office looks great and we get compliments all the time about the recycled door railing that the crew installed.  We are thrilled with our new work space!

My business partner and I got a great initial impression from owner, Chad Sipes. He was very excited about helping us do some light commercial work in a building we are renovating and seemed to understand our ideas for the space very well. The company had great reviews, and their website states that they specialize in building restoration and structural repairs. The work done included tearing out and rebuilding several sections of wall (adjoined to neighboring properties). We thought the estimate was a bit high, but based on the company's reputation and owner's excitement, we decided to move forward. Initially, communication was prompt and professional, and we were placed on the schedule quickly. When we went to examine the finished work, it was clear that neither Chad nor any type of project manager inspected the work at completion. In the basement, they repaired our walls with cinder block and the work was fantastic. On our main floor, however, they chose to drywall and plaster the repaired sections. The plastering crew had done very sloppy work, left a mess of our personal equipment, and un-hinged our new duct work from the ceiling, leaving a heavy section sagging. When we let Chad know that we were unhappy with the work, he apologized and promised he'd do whatever he could to make it right. He promptly came back to clean up the mess and even pressure washed some of our tools that were covered with plaster. It took about 2 weeks of Chad coming in and out to finally finish the walls - and, in the end, we are happy with how they look. Most frustrating, however, is that we were asked to leave our furnace running at 70 degrees so the "plaster could dry," and a lot of the work was done over top of our air intake during the 2 extra weeks. When our main contractor asked Chad why he didn't utilize a torpedo heater instead, his reply was that he didn't want to "drag" one all the way to the job site, which is only 1 mile from their business address. Luckily, we believe we caught our clogged filter in time to prevent any permanent damage to the furnace, but we just received a $280 gas bill for keeping this small, vacant space so warm while they re-plastered (more than double our typical winter gas bill).
Response from Sipes & Son General Contractor
"We are pleased that in the end, the client was happy with the work done at her property. When the client informed us she was not satisfied with the work done, we immediately took all the steps to correct the situation, as we take great pride in our clients' satisfaction. Unfortunately, at that time we were experiencing harsh winter temperatures which made the space difficult to keep consistently warm enough to allow the plaster to dry at a typical rate. We did not feel comfortable heating the space with a propane torpedo heater over night unattended. We'd also like to note the pictures posted by the client were taken before we completed the job and do not reflect the end result."
