The clothes in our washer were coming out quite soaked at the end of the cycle (even after spinning), and so a technician from Mr. Appliance came out to take a look. He came within the time window discussed, and was so helpful. After taking the washer apart and considering several options, he determined that the transmission was going bad. And although he could have replaced it, he agreed that we were better off just buying a new washer, as ours was already over 10 years old. He was very kind and knowledgeable and answered my many questions on what brands he might suggest, what to look for in new washers, etc. So although we did not end up having an actual repair on our washer, I felt that the fee to come out and look was more than worth it. I have peace of mind knowing that our washer is truly shot (and didn't just need some small replacement part), and feel better equipped for going out and shopping for a new washer.
Description of Work: We ended up just getting an estimate. The part that needed replaced (the transmission) was not worth replacing in our old washer, and so instead we will be purchasing a new washer.

James from Mr. Appliance showed up on time and immediately upon entering the house put booties over his shoes so as not to track in slush or snow. He performed tune-ups on the above listed appliances and not only performed these services but also described in detail different preventative maintenance tips for each appliance along the way. I had a leaky clothes washer which he also inspected and confirmed what I knew all along in that it was going to need replaced. He didn't even attempt to try and get me to repair it. James was polite, thorough in his work, and provided advice and tips that will extend the life of all my appliances. I would not hesitate to call Mr. Appliance in the future for any of my service needs.
Description of Work: Did appliance tune-up on refrig, range/oven, dishwasher, disposal, washer and dryer.

Our 20-30 year old washing machine broke and before we went to buy a new one, we wanted to see if they could fix it and it the manufacturer still made parts for it. We called Mr. Appliance because of their rating on Angie's List. The woman answering the phone was courteous and easy to work with. She explained that the visit would be a certain price, regardless of how long the repairman was there, and that price would get wrapped up in the price of the repair if we choose to use them once the diagnosis of the issue was made. They called ahead of time to let us know that the repairman was on his way, and he showed up right on schedule. He was professional, put booties on before walking through the house, and got right to work. He was optimistic that he could find the part, but after many phone calls, no one had the part and the verdict was that it was no longer manufactured. After the repairman left, my husband and I went to a local appliance store and found a new washer/dryer set and overheard the store owners on the phone with a customer asking for a repairman. The store owners quoted the repairman's hourly price at about $10-15 dollars over what we just paid for Mr. Appliance's one visit. We told the store owners about Mr. Appliance and gave them the number!
Description of Work: Very old washing machine broke - burned out the timing motor due to clothes getting wrapped up under the agitator. Unfortunately, the repairman told us that they no longer made parts for the machine so we could not get it fixed.

The appliance repair person, George, was on time and very professional. The package I purchased was to check up to 5 appliances to see that they were in good working order. My dishwasher was not dispensing soap, so George took the panel off and cleaned the "gunk" from the dispenser. He then checked other functions to be sure they were working properly. The washing machine was next since it was the appliance I had chosen because it was not spinning. George quickly dismantled the washer and determined it was a bad clutch. He had the part on his truck and replaced it. The machine works like new now. The dryer was next. It just needed cleaning and inspection to be sure it was working as it should. George answered all my questions and was very knowledgeable about all the appliances. He stayed until everything was done to both his and my satisfaction. He had another call after our house.

make sure that your items are always back in place before the tech leaves, can save alot of time and energy on both parties involved..Grant it, the flex piping should've never been left unattached, but the attention given to my piping clearly outwayed the descrepancy of not reattaching the flex vent before he left..he made up for it...that's service!
Description of Work: Michael was an outstanding professional...He arrived on time and completed the installation of a new motor in our clothes dryer...He had removed for installation the vent for our dryer, I had noticed that he didn't reattach the vent pipe...I have two bad shoulders from motorcycle accidents otherwise I would've reattached the flex piping which required reaching upward to reinstall. I called the company, he was back within an hour, He reattached the flex piping much better than it had previously been installed...he felt it was a danger for my family with the current way it had been installed...These people are honest and very efficient...These folks will always service our appliances...

After 3 vists to my home my dryer was still inoperable. Since Mr.Appliance misdiagnosed the problem on three different occations they felt i should be charged for thier inability to properly identify and repair my dryer. So I am out 191.00 for nothing not to mention the inconvience I endured. Not so much as an I'm sorry. NEVER AGAIN !!!
Description of Work: I called to set up an apointment and recieved what i thought to be a reasonably quick appointment. The tech arrived and was extremely courtious and stated my dryer had blown a fuse because the thermostat was defective. Both were replaced and i was charged 191.00 for the service call and parts. In my opinion, this was expensive considering the fact that the tech worked on my dryer for less than 10 minutes. Within 10 mnutes of using the dryer, the same issue arose(dryer not working). I again called and was told they would have to schedule me an appointment. I wasnt impressed having to wait for a service that i had already paid for but... On the second visit to my home (Fri) the tech said that they didnt have the part but would order it and instal it the following Monday. Monday came and went and i never recieved the call that i was assured i would get. I called them on Tuesday to inquire as to when the part would be in. they said that it came in yesterday and I would again have to schedule an appointment to have it installed. After several phone calls I was scheduled an appointment. On the third time the tech came, he replaced all the thermostats (3) and the fuse again. Again after approximately 10 minutes of use my dryer blew the fuse. I again called the store and asked to have someone fix my dryer. The receptionist replkyed with they are waiting on the owner to come in tell them how to proceed. Six hours later, after I called them, I was informed that I now needed a circut board, "it was the only thing left that it could be". the owner Ed Moore got on the phone and said for 210.00 they would replace the circut board. I asked if this was an additional 210.00 or 30.00 more. He said that the thermostats should be replaced anway and I should have to pay for them. He said Whirlpool reccomends replacing them when the circut board is replaced. I disagreed and explained to him just because I hired his company to do a repair, does not mean that i am not machaniccally inclined enough to know what he was telling me was inaccurate. He became very matter of factly with me and said it is what it is. I called him a disgrace and a thief. I called another repair company who came that same day, performed a diagnostic check on my dryer, determined that it did in fact need a circut board. They installed it and replaced one fuse. I asked about all of the thermostats needing replaced and the tech said the other company was probably trying to justify thier lack of troubleshooting and cut thier losses. needless to say my dryer has been working as it should for over a week now.

Response from Mr. Appliance of Pittsburgh
. After 2 attempts to repair his Dryer that was overheating causing it to blow the thermal fuse. We replaced the thermal fuse and thermister. The thermister is the electronic temperature sensor and works with the control board to cycle the heat on and off. The thermister’s go bad all the time so Whirlpool who builds the Dryer recommends replacing the thermister first and since the thermal fuse is not resettable it must be replaced, and if that don’t resolve the problem replace the control board. After replacing the thermister 2 times with 2 thermal fuses with the same results we called and quoted $200.20 to replace the board this is the cost for the board only and no labor was added. Here is where the problem comes in. The member called back and I the owner answered and tried to explain why he needed the board but could not get a word in over his ranting and raving. He wanted a complete refund but I told him we don’t give refunds. At this time he threatened bodily harm to me and threatened to come down and shot me. I told him I was calling the police and he responded by calling us a company of child molesters and hung up on me. I did call the West View police and had them come down for fear that he would come to our office and I filed a complaint order. We did what we are supposed to do since Whirlpool gives no way to diagnose the board and only recommends replacing the parts I mentioned. I will give a full refund only if the member apologizes to all of my employees in person for his comments to me on the phone calling us a company of child molesters.

Water would not fill into my dishwasher. Called Mr. Appliance based on Angie's list reviews on Monday 11/5/12 and had a tech (James) sent to the house on 11/7/12. He diagnosed the problem as a vaulty water valve and had to order the part. He schedule an appointment time for 11/9/12 and returned on that day with the replacement part. He replaced the part quickly and effectively and tested the dishwasher for a couple of cycles. He was courteous, pleasant, and very informative throughout the repair process. a few days after the repair I received a thank you card from James for providing him and Mr. Appliance the opportunity to repair my dishwasher. That was a nice unexpected touch. I would highly recommend this company for any appliance repair.

Response from Mr. Appliance of Pittsburgh
Our web site is a generic website set up for all 171 Mr.Appliance franchises. Each franchise has their own appliances they service some do commercial appliances, some service Microwaves, some don't service foreign made appliances, it is based on what they are good at. This helps the customer from having service on an appliance that the service company may have no experience with. In the near future this will be fixed so each company has a their own web presence. Microwaves are considered throw away with the exception of vent hoods and even the vent hood microwaves are often more expensive to fix than replace, because the companies selling them do not make them. The companies that make them for companies such as G.E. or Whirlpool buy the parts from companies that make only one part of the microwave then sell them to the company making the microwave, then they sell the part to the company selling it under their name, and then that company sells the part to a supplier making 4 companies selling the part before it gets to us and each company makes 100% profit making a $5.00 part cost $80.00 by the time we purchase it, and we mark it up 25% making the part $100.00 by the time we install it in a customers appliance. We mark it up to cover the cost of shipping and handling, and our time finding the part at the lowest possible price saving our customers as much as possible. The cost to repair most things on Microwaves has gotten so high that often the parts to repair cost more than the microwave cost new. We decided instead of putting our customers through that we would not service Microwaves.

The technician, Mike, arrived shortly after I received the call from the office stating that he was on his way. He was very courteous and after introducing himself, donned his orange booties to protect my floors. I explained to him the problem with the oven and he diagnosed it as needing a new igniter which he had in his truck. The installation was done relatively quickly and after a small adjustment, the oven heated up with no problem. I was very impressed by Mike's professionalism and friendly manner and would not hesitate to call this company again for future appliance repairs.

There was damage from the dishwasher not being connected properly by the restoration company. Had to call fire department. George came and looked at appliances (dishwasher and stove drawer) then came back and fixed both perfectly!
Description of Work: Mr. Appliance was fantastic. The employee who came to my house was George. He was professional, clean, polite, and thorough. Damage was caused to my Dishwasher and my stove drawer by a company putting in a new file floor. It is who they found to come out to repair both. The company doing the floor covered the expense. So I do not know the cost. However, I can say that the best experience I had with my new kitchen floor was with George, from Mr. Appliance. I will use them again, and would recommend them to friends and neighbors.

I called Mr. Appliance when my 15 year old refrigerator stopped cooling. They returned my call promptly and dispatched tech within two days. The tech found a source of the problem and determined that the part was no longer available. He did a bit of research and found a part that would work. He installed the part and the appliance worked for about 5 days. When the refrigerator began to act up again I called back. A tech came back out to my home the next day. There was a related part that was affected and had to be ordered. I waited for the part to come in for a week or so. The tech returned to my home and installed the second part. I was billed for only one service call and the two parts. The appliance has been working fine for several weeks. The tech was punctual and professional. I appreciated his honesty and advice.

After explaining the problem to the Mr. Appliance office, James from company came to our house to analyse the problem and repair it. The office gave us a time range in which to expect him then called us to tell us when he was on his way. James was on time and very professional and orderly. He spent enough time to determine that the fan motor had to be replaced. Although he said that he carried three or four types of standard fan motors in the truck, he was very apologetic that he did not have the proper one for our refrigerator, because the GE Profile models are not so common. So, the motor would have to be ordered and it would take three to five business days to be delivered. It did arrive in their shop on about the fifth business day, a Thursday, and they called to arrange a date to come and install it. They originally wanted to do the repair on the following Monday, but since we already been without a refrigerator for a week, I asked if they could possibly do it sooner. They agreed to schedule it for Saturday at no additional cost. James came on Saturday, as promised and completed the repair. The repair took close to two hours of concentrated work, but when completed, James made sure that everything in the work area and around the refrigerator was clean and tidy and that the refrigerator was working properly. We were very impressed with Mr. Appliance's responsiveness and thoughtful customer service approach. We even received a note from James thanking us for using their service. We were particularly impressed with the professional manner that James carried out the repair and time he took after the first service call to explain the problem and to advise us that it was a high quality refrigerator and thus was certainly worth repairing rather than replacing. I would not hesitate to use Mr. Appliance again or recommend them to others.
Description of Work: The upper section of of our ten year old bottom freezer GE Profile refrigerator became warm. This resulted from the fan that moves cold air in the unit being broken. The repair involved replacing the fan motor which turned out to be a more difficult job than I would have guessed.

Repairman came and determined what was wrong with my dryer. He said he needed to order a part and it would be 3 days and he would be back to do the repair. After 5 days we started calling because we needed our dryer fixed. We called about every other day. The receptionist told us that she would have to call us back but she did not several times. My husband had paid for the repair and the part up front. Now we couldn't get them to come back and do the repair. After three weeks, I contacted the headquarters of Mr. Appliance in Texas and told them that my next move was to file a complaint with the BBB and the PA Attorney General. We got a call from Mr. Appliance two days later saying they would be out to repair our dryer. I don't think they would have come if I hadn't threatened to file the complaint and if I hadn't contacted the headquarters for this franchise.

The part was ordered for this customer on 5/16/2012 and our supplier didn't have it in stock and none of our other 3 suppliers had it in stock. The Manufacturer Electrolux/ Frigidaire didn't have it in stock and had to wait for shipment from their supplier who makes the part for them. The part arrived at my supplier on 5/30/2012, and we recieved the part on 6/1/2012 and completed the call the following day. The customer continued to call even though we told her the part was on back order and we would be back as soon as the part came in. We have no control over the Manufacturers not keeping enough stock to meet the customers needs and appologize for Electrolux/ Frigidaire. We are limited by the Manufacturers parts supply and depend 100% on them to service our customers in a timely fashion. Ed Moore Owner

They were quick to come out on a Saturday for no extra charge. They actually had the lowest service charge fee when I was calling around. The technician was polite and clean. He had to pull out the whole oven and when he saw what the problem was he said it would be way too expensive to repair. He said that we would get the price anyway and we decided it wouldn’t be worth it at this time. They were very honest. I liked them so well I have already them to my mother. Our dishwasher was taking longer than normal to complete a regular wash cycle. We called Mr. Appliance and were able to schedule an appointment for two days later when my husband was off. The repairman came and put booties over his shoes before he came into the house. He diagnosed the problem as a stuck control board and said he could order the part and install it in a few days. It was approx. $225 for the entire service, but it's definitely better than laying out ~ $600 for a new dishwasher. He returned as promised and installed the new board without a hitch. An appointment was scheduled with this "service" provider, but they never showed or called to say that they were not coming. It ended up being a WASTED afternoon while we stayed at home waiting for them to arrive...even their phone answering service was no help whatsoever. On 4/8/2012, this provider responds that they tried to reach our home on several occasions after the initial NO SHOW on 6/15/2011. If they did try to call, NO MESSAGE was ever left on our answering machine, which is always on, 24/7. It is unfortunate that they had an office staff member who obviously did not do her job before leaving their office on the day we initially scheduled an appointment, but we have not had a good experience or follow-up from this company so would not be willing to try to schedule anything with them again.
Description of Work: NO services were performed as they never showed for the appointment we had scheduled with them.

Response from Mr. Appliance of Pittsburgh
After several attempts to call this customer we never got a response. The problem happened due to our office not printing a reciept for the customer on a day she had to leave before the tech was to go to this customers home. The tech had no idea he was supposed to go to her home and she would not return any of our calls to try to resolve our mistake on Monday after we were supposed to go to her home. We tried several times after this but got no reponse from the customer.

They were very good. They even came back when it failed again for free. I think they did an excellant job because they came back out when I needed them.
