JP May Construction called in the beginning and he said, "We're still getting to work for next month or something". And, he is going to get back to me and let me know when they are going to do it. And then he never got back, so I called him. And then they started. I would wait a couple of weeks and call again and wait a couple of weeks and call and then he just would never come back and finally the time for it expired. And, I figured, he wouldn't be coming back then. At this point would be, the time ran out and, garbage like that. And, a lot of time he wouldn't answer the phone, he had the machine that answered the phone, and I guess there is someone that said who you were and he knew that that was one of the people that had this gutter work he wasn't interested.
Jim is not good at communication. He was difficult to reach for first contact and this problem continued throughout. There were additional jobs he was to perform for us (inside and outside of the house) which he said he would quote on. After the roof was complete, it was as though he disappeared. The gutters clogged due to leftover material from the old roof removal and the attic fan seemed to not be functioning correctly. We made at least 4 calls/emails with no response. The last time we tried he answered and said he would get right back to us but never did.
Although he did a great job on the roof, the fact that he would not communicate afterward after saying he would do the additional jobs we had was very disappointing. We delayed getting these jobs done while waiting for his response and this has caused us further difficulties. We feel we can no longer trust J. P. May Contracting and will not recommend him to anyone.
The floor tile and trim look fantastic.
Jim's crew was very nice and personable. They were great to deal with and have good personalities. They did solid work. They were respectful to not let any of our pets escape through open doors. Also, they fixed our screen door so it wouldn't slam shut instantly when you left go of it.
I hired JP May Construction to refinish a living room/dining room hardwood floors. I was so pleased with that, I had them refinish all of our hardwood floors upstairs. That went so well, I hired them to handle this tile floor project. And, I hired them to renovate a bathroom. Jim and his crew are busy guys, but they took some time to come out on the weekends to finish up whenever needed.

They encountered two bad patches of wood, which had pet stains. However, Jim was able to replace these sections and the patches blend right in, so it looks seamless.
I was so pleased with the floors on the first level and up the steps that I asked if Jim and Scott would be available to refinish the floors for four of my upstairs bedrooms the next week. They completed that job, too, and did excellent work.
In addition, Jim custom built a transition from a hardwood floor to a raised tile floor in our entrance way and he installed a pet door in a basement door that I had been meaning to install, but do not own a jigsaw.
Overall, the communication was great and Jim and Scott were great to deal with whenever I was around.
Jim took photos of the floor progress as he went along and texted them to me periodically. It was nice receiving those updates.
The job was done in a timely manner and the quality was great. The wood took an extra coat and Jim made sure the job was done to both his satisfaction and mine. Jim's price for the job was also extremely competitive and we felt we received excellent value for our money.
I travel for work for a living and every day Jim would text pictures of the job progress to my phone so I could keep abreast of the progress they were making. He made me feel very comfortable and I would not only recommend him to both family and friends but I would hire him again in a heartbeat.
Estimation process:
Jim came to my house as soon as I called him. It wasn't hard to get an estimate as it often is. Through the estimating process, I realized that he takes pride in his work and will only use the best materials and will only do a thorough job. He wants your house to look the best it can and he takes that personally. That is hard to find these days. Another positive thing about the estimation process was that, he was able to get to the job quickly. He even fit it in on a weekend.
How the job went:
Jim and his crew were as nice as could be. They put up with our dogs and cleaned up after themselves. That may not sound like a lot, but it is. Some contractors are gruff, leave big messes, and get mad about dogs. They tried to get the job done in two days (even though one was during a Steeler game!), but had to come back and finish up during the week. This didn't bother me at all. It was a big job and it was impressive that they did it in two and a half days.
Results:
The house looks great. Neighbors are coming out of the woodwork to compliment and ask who did it. One neighbor even hired him to do his roof.
