Prior to installation, Robert Johnson spent a lot of time providing samples and planning with his workman how to best fix the flooring on the uneven second floor of our home. We chose to use hardwood on the first floor and LVT on the second floor.
Work was done in a timely and clean manner. The new subfloors on the second floor are sturdy and well leveled with the requisite transitions well constructed and unobtrusive. The hardwood on the first floor is stunning and even our old stair treads which were a terrible mess of old thick paint are nicely sanded and refinished.
Our house needed a lot of work and Johnson's workmen spent the time to do things right.
Before they started the floors looked awful and had an orange tint. Also, the floors used to squeak with nearly every step. After they finished, the floors are amazing and the squeaking has decreased by 90%. Literally every single person that has seen the floors compliments them. Plus Johnson floors was actually the cheapest quote out of 4 other quotes!
The owner was the salesperson. He was always very responsive and professional. He really wants his guys to do an excellent job. His sales presentation consisted of 15 minutes of measurements and a couple minutes of explanation. He was very low pressure. I agreed a couple days later. He was able to squeeze me in within a couple weeks.
The workers were professional and arrived on time to the minute in a van with the Bona logo on it. They did great work. They also left a sample of what the natural stain would look like before applying it everywhere. I ended up loving the natural look on the red oak (which is light), although when I began researching the project I was convinced that I wanted a darker stain.
The job lasted 3 days at beginning of September. It's now been almost 3 months and the Bona water based finish has held up beautifully. I was very skeptical about the water based finished because all of the other competitors spoke so highly of their oil based durability. After all the wear and tear these floors have gone through, I'm now convinced that this Bona water based finished is not just beautiful; it's also very tough. I did obvious things to take care of the floors like putting pads underneath the couch legs, but I've also put some serious wear on these floors while I was renovating the rest of the house and they still look great.
I contemplated doing the floors myself, but the rental places don't always maintain their machines which might result in you getting mini-divots (search about it online). One of the best choices I made so far when moving in was having these guys do the floors.
I wouldn't consider using anyone else in the future for hardwood floors. Johnson Floors was reasonablly priced, they came on time, crew was professional, job was done on time, great communication, and the floors look amazing!!!
Again, I want to emphasize that Johnson Floors contacted me about the unsatisfactory appearance of the first staining application.
They deserve a triple A Plus for their excellent work.
This is the second time I've used these guys; they did a first refinishing job for us maybe 15 years ago or so. Most of the same guys came back this time.
To meet a kitchen cabinet installation deadline for Thanksgiving, I needed a quick schedule; they went out of their way to fit me in and were able to do so.
Team arrived on time and went immediately to work putting up plastic sheet over every opening to keep the dust in the work area and out of the rest of the house.
The guys were curtious and experienced and knowledgeable, and answered all my questions confidently and correctly. In particular my wife was working with a decorator and we had a custom color we needed them to match. They were cooperative and knew exactly how to prepare for the decorator. After sanding, the color guy on the crew offered a color pallet and from the closest one we began chasing the custom color we wanted. My opinion was invited and they treated it as a team effort, which I appreciated.
A dozen different combinations were blended and patches of perpared floor were stained. Meanwile, decorator was called and invited to come in to to approve the color from the samples. She arrived and instantly found the exact match from all the samples on the floor. She was in and out in less than a minute!
It took three and a half days because of the multiple coats of polyurethane needing drying time. The odor was suprisingly light and was never a problem. We were never uncomfortable with the stain or polyurethand odor.
They came back on a Saturday to finish, just to help me with my tight schedule.
They left me the stain mix 'recipe' and a small can of stain for a wooden threshold I'm adding later. They also agreed to help my cabinet guys match the cabinets to the floor color. 'Color' is a really, really big deal to my wife and I especially appreciate the cooperation they've given me because I am doing this Kitchen remodeling job myself and color has been the single biggest issue of the entire project.
A very small spot of the polyurethane coating bubbled but Johnson Flooring immediately responded when I called them. They are returning tomorrow to take care of it. "Stuff" happens. I give these guys credit for coming back, handling it themselves, and not making it "my problem".
