JOHN HANCOCK CONTRACTING

It was an absolute nightmare! We were moving from another state and told them that we could wait to move for two months. We kept Mr. Hancock informed of our plans and the day we arrived with the moving truck, there was hardly any work done. We had asked that the bulk of the demo be done (which he agreed to do) before we moved but it didn't happen. The two "employees" who were at our house that day had no idea we were moving in that day. Mr. Hancock personally showed up to our house one time in the entire 12 months. He never supervised the job or his workers and when I would speak to one of them about the job, he would send me an email telling me that they could not talk to me about the job. His workers installed our dishwasher five times. It's still not correct. We paid to have them replace the lead water service line and they refused to take out the old service line which is currently still leaking in our basement. Mr. Hancock provided us with renderings of the kitchen cabinet plan but then when the cabinets were installed, they did not order end panels, baseboards or crown molding. When I argued with him about it, he said "you didn't pay for those things." We finally got him to do the crown molding and one end panel but we had to withhold payment from him to get him to do it. I with held payment from him for several months to get him to do the job but I had to give up. If you're considering hiring this company, think again!

It was fantastic.They are reliable, work quickly, and they do the job right.

Things were not done when he said they would be done. His office workers did not handle administrative tasks in a timely manner. Change orders were not handled correctly. Billing was handled inadequately, and sub contractors were irresponsible. And then when it was time to reconcile he immediately went to legal recourse instead of trying to work it out. It was a nightmare.

Hancock Contracting has skilled workers who know and understand old houses. Work done in a timely manner, with proper materials and finishes. A very satisfying experience.
