Toxic work environment! When joining the Jim Jenkins staff earlier this summer, I expected to become a member of a fair and welcoming small-business staff. Previously I had held multiple jobs, and was looking for part time work to keep busy before starting PhD at CMU. Unfortunately, after working at Jim Jenkins for two months, I can only describe my experience as toxic and deceitful. Working with Jim (the man himself) was a horrible experience. Over my two month working at J and J, I witnessed Jim yell and belittle multiple staff members with no justification. I saw Jim argue with customers over returns. I even witnessed Jim cussing out a highway maintenance worker directing traffic around nearby construction. I decided to terminate my position when after trying to requesting a couple days off to visit my girlfriend, I was reprimanded for "entering Jims office" after my shift, even though I was required to submit the form directly to Jim or Lisa. After quitting, I received my last pay check in the mail. I saw I was payed at a rate of 10 dollars an hour instead of the 12 dollars I was promised when hired! I had let Jim know I was not being payed the correct amount when the the same "billing mistake" occurred on my prior paycheck. To his credit, I was recouped the lost wages for the first paycheck when I told him. For my most recent paycheck, however I have yet to been reimbursed. Please know, my family had previously spent thousands at the establishment over the years. To be clear, the rest of the staff, including Lisa, were great. The selection of plants at Jim Jenkins is also impressive. However, after working for Jim himself I can confidently say my family and I will not be coming back.

The company is professional and knowledgeable. In addition to mulch, we often purchase plants and flowers there. Subscribing to emails for savings is an added bonus.

We got bids in fall 2009 for our two buildings for plow/salt. We had an inconsistent "guy with a plow" and needed a change because our retail businesses demand a plowed/salted parking lot for customers' safety and our liability. To our surprise Jim Jenkins was less or the same compared to some smaller one truck outfits. His bid also contained an insurance binder. Well we know what kind of weather 2009-10 brought and I was thanking the gods we had changed to Jim that year because his company was johnny on the spot the whole season. Nobody is gonna be excited to pay for snow maintenance but what a piece of mind to know every time you pull into your business' lot it will clear and safe. In addition the invoices/statements were very clear - giving actual times and the services performed.

THIS COMPANY AND STAFF HAVE BEEN ON TOP OF SNOW REMOVAL, CLEARING DRIVEWAYS AND SIDEWALKS QUICKLY AND EFFICIENTLY. DURING THE SUMMER, THEY HAVE PLANTS AND SHRUBS FOR PURCHASE AND PLANTING.
