Most expensive of the providers I studied; however, very responsive and helpful in the planning phase.  Total time was two months.  I was in no hurry, but this might be an issue for someone else.  I am very pleased with the porch railing installed

The person I dealt with was very quick to understand what was needed and an estimate was provided in short order. The quality of the product was excellent and we were very pleased with the finished product and installation. The only down side was that the estimate was done in August and delivery/installation was promised in early November. This dare was pushed back twice so that it was done 1-1/2 months later. Fortunately, we were not in a big hurry to have the work done and are extremely pleased with the end result. We would definitely use them again!

The piece created by the folks at Heritage is beautiful, and can't be told from the other exterior braces that came with our home. This was not a simple piece to create, but it was well worth it and priced competitively. Landon and the other folks in the shop did a beautiful job, and Rob in the office was very helpful. It took a bit more time than we all thought that it would, but the finished product matches the original pieces beautifully. I would not hesitate to use them again.

The process was very slow, from my July 10th deposit  initiating the contract, to the installation on October 22.
But, if you can wait, you will be pleased with the results.
The craftsman resonsible for my project did a superb job of layout & design. More than a simple straight railing; it was one piece that needed to incorporate landings as well as a curved section. While the railing was a simple one rail design; architectual interest was created by vine embellishments on the posts.
The railing is of heavy stock, with quality fit & finish, and should last many years. Beyond appearance, the railing is functionally placed & quite sturdy.
Response from Heritage Industries Inc

"We are pleased that [member name removed] is happy with his railing and appreciate his comments regarding our craftsmanship and attention to detail. He is absolutely correct when he mentions that we were delayed in completing his project. Our production started getting backed up in July and continued through August. To avoid further delays, we hired two additional and very experienced fabricators, in August. They have been key in getting our production back on track. We tell all of our customers that we are on a 6 to 12 week lead time (from the signing of the contract to completion / installation). Lead time can be much less for a small job and very large jobs are appropriately scheduled with clients and contractors. We would like to thank [member name removed] for his patience as we were two weeks off of the twelve week mark. We also thank him for his business. His railing is beautiful, our fabricators enjoyed building the piece, and we hope to work with him in he future."

The pros:
They were very responsive, and gave me detailed quotes and information. They called me to follow up frequently. They sent someone out to take measurements and he was very professional and exacting. I got the impression that the whole team was very professional and that I wouldn't have to worry about the complex installation I needed.
The cons:
They were very expensive. Because my job was complex, it was hard for me to even find someone to give me another quote- but ultimately I had the work done by Pittsburgh Custom Metals for about 70% less than the price Heritage quoted me. When I asked about the price difference they told me that it was because they start from scratch with all the materials and rigorously process the metal so that it stands up to weather better. I believe that this is true- but the company that I used did a beautiful job for a fraction of the price.
Response from Heritage Industries Inc

"We respect that our product was not in line with [Member name removed] budget. We have seen the finished railing that was installed on her property via the other companies facebook page. There is definitely a difference in material, build, fabrication and finish. We are happy that [Member name removed] and her husband are pleased with the result of their railing but stand behind the quality, craftsmanship and finish of our own product. As a company, we focus on quality and customer service and appreciate that [Member name removed] has noted our professionalism. We regret that we were unable to work with her on this project as we know she would have been extremely pleased with our finished product. If we would have fabricated and installed the same type of rail with a painted finish, our price would have been more in line with what [Member name removed] paid. We encourage clients to communicate any concerns regarding price as it relate to the scope of work that Heritage offers, versus the scope of work that other companies are offering. We are happy to review and compare the details so our potential clients can make an educated decision. We are also happy to value engineer in order to reduce costs if you feel more comfortable with our service, fabrication, finish and installation after speaking with our company and seeing our work."

Emailed some pictures of the stairs and a description of the  type of railings we were looking for.  Germaine Gladu was very nice and answered all our questions, explained what is included in the process and provided a couple of estimates.  The estimates were somewhat high and due to some unexpected financial hits to our budget, we decided to use another company instead.

This company was prompt with information, honest with the details of their cost and respectful.  If we had unlimited funds, we may have gone with this company; however, they were just too expensive for us.  We could see the value in their product but couldn't afford them.

I had trouble getting to set up a time to install it. They always wanted to come when I'm out of the house so we had a little bit of trouble getting our timing together. They have installed it eventually.

I got a quote from them. It took a long time for them to get back to me and they were kind of rude. Their prices were a little to high. They also sent a sketch with the quote. I felt like I had been brushed off and they need to improve the timeliness of their quote. I would tell people to look someplace else.
Response from Heritage Industries Inc

"We were very sorry to hear that [member name removed] did not have a good experience with our company. After we made our initial site visit, we did provide her with a proposal and a drawing of what we had envisioned for her space. I called to let her know that I had emailed the quote and asked that she call or email back with any questions. I also mentioned that we placed a sketch on the proposal so she would have a basic understanding of what we were quoting but that the design would be detailed prior to building. Typically we place a photo or CAD rendering on the quote but since we had nothing similar in our library, I opted to include the sketch instead. I never heard back from [member name removed] until this report. I immediately called her to apologize for her experience. My intent in calling was to discuss the details of her quote and since the job was priced fairly, I wanted see if there was anything we could do to value engineer her project in order to get her what she wanted within her budget. I also believe that our quote included an additional railing going to the drive that perhaps [member name removed] was unaware was in the number and I wanted to back that out of the number first. [member name removed] did not have much time to speak with me and said that the project was not a priority at the time due to other concerns that were taking precedence. I let her know that I would like to meet with her personally when she was ready and told her that I would send updated CAD renderings with a new proposal so she would have it in her files when she was ready to make her decision. I do agree that [member name removed] waited too long for the initial site visit and if we do hear from [member name removed] in the future, we will put her on the schedule immediately."

Rob Gladu gave our church an accurate estimate of cost and the timeline that the work would be completed.  Heritage created new church handrails for the front steps and installed them according to contract.

My old railings were rusting. My porch overlooks the driveway with a 10 foot drop onto concreate and I needed something strong and beautiful.  I called Heritage and they were so nice to me. They explained everything and send someone out to my home to measure. When they arrived they couldn't have been nicer and asked me many questions so that I would get exactly what I wanted.  The wait was a little long but I guarentee it was worth it. They are beautiful, from the exact color I was looking for, the simple design I chose and the quality is excellent.  When it was ready to install the workers had it done in one day.  Very nice, very professional and I highly recomend this company.

We were very happy with the quality of the iron railings and with Rob and his staff. They were professional and courteous, and they turned our job around surprisingly quickly. They were able to help us find the pattern that we wanted and that would work given the style of our house, and they customized the upper railings in just the way we wanted. They took the time to add beautiful curves to the top set of railings--both at the bottom of the steps and at the top, where the step and porch railings met. We joked with them that before starting the job, they would have to get tetanus booster shots because our old railings were so completely rusted. They didn't complain about the state of those old railings--they removed them without a trace. They installed the new railings in a day, working hard from around 7:30 or 8 in the morning until after 6 that night. The installers were professional and courteous, and they were clearly good at their jobs. Heritage is the only company that we found that pre-treats railings with "Steel Shot and Forced Air Blasts, Phosphate Wash, Zinc Rich Primer, and Powder Coat Finish." We paid more for this, but we are confident that this was the right decision to make given how quickly railings can rust. (And our old railings are a good testament to that.) Another company that we contacted provided a slightly cheaper estimate for the work, but that estimate was for unfinished railings--had we gone with that company, we would have had to paint/treat the railings ourselves. It was considerably worthwhile to go with Heritage for that reason alone--plus, the specialized treatment that Heritage does very much adds to the longevity and value of the iron work. My husband and I were both impressed with Heritage's professionalism and commitment to the job. In talking with Rob, Germaine, or Carol, I always felt like I was talking with family. They did what they'd say they'd do, when they said they'd do it--that's something that always impresses me. They're such talented craftsmen and they take their job seriously. We would recommend them to others with ease.

When I called they immediately estimated the job would be $1500, without much information from me. I had two other companies quote me $500 and $700 for the same job and with a much more detailed conversation with me on what I was looking for. Heritage did mail me a packet with detailed pictures of my choices for the railing and ends. Several days later I got another call with a quote of $1800. I tried to get some clarification on what I wanted, thinking the quote was for two sets vs. two single rails or for something more exotic. But that was the price for the same job the others were quoting at 1/2 to 1/3 the price. I was impressed with their follow through, but I think communication could have been better. They should have spent a little more time talking to me during the initial phone call. I never got the sense that they knew exactly what I was looking for.

On their first visit, we discussed several options, including simply adding the second set of railings to the opposite wall vs. removing and replacing the existing railings. My husband & I decided on replacement of the old railings but requested a similar style. The whole project was interrupted over the summer by various vacations(ours and theirs)but things were finally installed a couple weeks ago to our complete satisfaction. Two men showed up on the appointed day, started removing the old railings, then realized our walls were a lot thicker than typical dry wall(they're plaster)and had to get different attachment hardware. Other than that glitch, everything went smoothly from my point of view. The new railings are not quite as snappy as the 1953 designs, but the rails certainly look more presentable.

During the estimate phase I asked if they subcontracted and was told 'no.' They do. Then, he (the owner) forgot to include the paver stones in the estimate. After the job began, he called to tell us that we would need to pay $300 more. Also, during the estimate he informed us that we would need drainage pipe installed. On the estimate, it stated drainage pipe. When the crew (subcontractors) showed up, they said that we needed it but the pipe mentioned on the estimate was something different. They installed it anyway, at their cost, because the owner of Heritage would not. The owner estimated the job would take 5 days. It took 12. This is to no fault of the subcontractor. It was a HUGE job. We know that we could have gotten this job done less expensively. The owner had our trust by the way he handled himself at the beginning. He is a good salesman but that is about it. He is not a good businessman.
