My experience with H+A lasted from 2012-2015 and was extremely poor and resulted in a serious safety danger. After being recommended by a coworker, I had them evaluate my non-functioning air conditioner. They replaced the entire system (roof top and the unit in my apt) for several thousand dollars in 2012. I was told repetitively that the installation would take one day, but had to take an unexpected second day off of work for the installation. When the two installers still hadn't gotten the unit working in 2 days, they had to call in Ryan. Within 2 months, the brand new unit broke down again and H and A was back. This happened now less than 7 times from installation in 2012 until 2015. Each time, they assured my that the problem was fixed. During one of these visits, they tracked dirt all over the carpet, requiring professional cleaning (which they paid for). At another, they clogged a bathroom toilet. At another, we found a live exposed wire. At another visit when my elderly neighbor was supervising because I was at work, they set off my fire alarm; I was told that multiple neighbors came into my apartment to try to help while I was not there and the alarm was broken in an apparent attempt to silence it. They were repetitively late to appointments. I had no confidence in the competence of any H and A workman other than Ryan. Harry was condescending to me, my elderly neighbor, and family members who have supervised some of the repair visits. I took off 9 days or partial days of work in total from 2012-2015, specifically to supervise installation and repair visits. I (mistakenly) thought that my parts and labor warranty only covered labor by the installing company, which is the only reason I held out with H and A for so long. When my A/c broke done again in late 2015, I couldn't take it anymore and called in a new company and willingly paid the diagnostic fees. When the new company inspected the unit, they showed me areas where the wrong size wires were used, burnt/melted wires, and several areas where the unit was charred. I was told that it was a miracle that my apartment did not catch fire. Due to this alarming news, I sought a second professional opinion by another company and was told the same thing. It is one thing to be disappointed in unprofessional and incompetent work, but it is entirely unacceptable that shoddy installation/repairs put my family and my neighbors in danger. I have since spent several hundred dollars on electrical and AC repairs (by other companies) to put the unit in safe working condition. I no longer live in Pittsburgh and waited until I moved away to open a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau and seek the advice of a lawyer, hence the delay in this evaluation.

We had three quotes for a new AC and gas furnace to be installed and A&C was the lowest cost. There techs were professional and courteous and completed the job earlier than quoted. Harry, the owner came back the next morning to inspect all work completed. There were a few minor details that I never would have noticed or concerned myself with but he said he would send them back to fix the small oversights. If you want the job completed quickly and at a fair price call Harry!

Bryan was prompt and arrived at precisely the appointed time. He performed a thorough inspection off the unit and cleaned each area as he went along. He was Professional, Cordial and Communicative, answering all of my questions and addressing any concerns. I've dealt with several Heating and A/C contractors and Harry (H&A ) is the most honest and reliable I've found. I'd highly recommend them.

I love H&A. They are one of those outstanding, old fashioned businesses that takes care of its customers. Harry has come out to save us on Sundays (and other days of the week!); he has even rescued neighbors for us when they lost heat in the winter. They replaced our air conditioner several years ago, as well as the hot water heater, and we will be doing our furnace soon with them. I trust Harry to tell me what is needed, and to do it right. I wouldn't think of using anyone else in Pittsburgh.

It is VERY clear that Harry values honesty in his business transactions and he conveys this to his employees. Ryan first interest was getting our A/C up and running... not convincing me that I needed a whole new system. An earlier vendor was more than happy to sell me on the néed to spend 3000 to 6000. They weren't really interested in a 'lifetime discount club' that I had purchased from them a few years ago. They did have a new club for several hundred dollars ! Discard any number but H&A when you need HVAC service from an honest company !

They responded by phone within an hour and scheduled an arrival time for the next day at 1-3pm.  Showed up at about 1:15.  Got the a/c working again but said the fan motor would probably over heat as it had during the extreme heat[over 100F] of last weekend.  Gave a written estimate for replacing the condenser fan motor and to charge the freon in the 24 year old unit.  Then gave an oral  quote of approximately $3000 for an entirely new unit.  I paid just under $90 for the service call.  And will get a few estimates on replacing the entire unit, before deciding on a course of action.  If their quoted price is fair, will use them for the new unit.

I contacted H&A Heating & Air Conditioning to perform an annual maintenance check of my unit.  Although it took a couple of weeks for someone to return my phone calls to set up the appointment, I was pleased with the service tech who performed the work.  He was very professional, informative and courteous.  The charge for the tune-up + filter ($79.95 + $4) plus an optional acid wash of the outdoor coil ($100) seemed very reasonable.  Overall, I am very satisfied with the results.

I absolutely trust & believe in H & A Heating / Cooling. We have used them for about 10 years and would go nowhere else. We trust them to be in the residences alone - without exception. Cheerful atmosphere, respectful technicians, clean-up when finished... I would give them a grade of 110%.

The tech was very good at communication and welcomed my questions. I just wish I could remember everything he said.
