Bill did my kitchen remodel for me. I did cabinets and flooring only. He did such a great job my Mom decided to use him on her kitchen remodel. I highly recommend him. He is very professional and efficient. You will not be disappointed.

The job went smoothly and was completed in 7 working days. New walls, subfloor, ceramic floor, new ceramic shower stall, plumbing, sink, toilet -- they even hung a window treatment for me. The work is beautiful; owner Bill Gilbert and his partner Bob explained and asked my input for each step in the process. To gild this particular lily, the cost was remarkably reasonable -- about 60% of the highest bid I received for this project.

The job was estimated to take 10 days, but was completed in 8.5 and on budget! Bill showed up everyday at 8:30, as discussed, and worked a full day each day, while continuously providing updates. He was very diligent and respectful during every step of the project. He communicated clearly where there were hiccups and what he had done to correct them. Being that our house is a bit older, we expected some surprises, but Bill made sure he explained to us what he had come across and showed us the issues, so that we could be certain that we weren't being taken for a ride, so to speak. I'd say Bill went above and beyond to make sure that we were happy with the progress and work that was being done, which was very relieving. The bathroom went from an old pink and green to a new, bright, and updated room that we love and actually enjoy. I would definitely recommend Gilbert Tile for anyone looking to remodel their bathroom.

A few small existing problems were exposed and addressed. Bill was excellent at communication before, during an immediately after completion of work. He made excellent suggestions regarding purchase of replacement tub and wall tile suppliers. I provided a template of the tile arrangement including insertion of accent pieces and corner shelves. He followed by design perfectly. He did forget to re-position the water control handle to waist height position from the traditional tub level, but we left it as it was. He responded same day to repair a small water leak that began in a connection near to the area of his work.

Excellent communication and responsiveness. He was receptive to owner's design ideas. Bill was flexible with the project start date due to the delay of the arrival of ceramic tile. He cleaned up daily. At completion of project he responded same day to repair a small plumbing leak, not directly related to his work. He began on time and completed early. Pleased with final outcome.

Bill Gilbert arrived for estimate two days after initial contact. House was built in 1956. Original owner installed 4" plastic tile in entire bathroom, including around tub/shower. Bill was the only remodeler I contacted who thought it possible to replace only the area around the tub/shower. His estimate was $3,000 less than closest.. One contractor wanted to gut entire bathroom at $12,000 +. Others wanted to do the tub surround system. Bill and Bob arrived on time and started to remove existing tile and plaster. After five minutes, it became apparent that the side wall was soaked through to the studs because original tile had not been sealed and no moisture barrier installed. Apprentice previous owners only took baths. Side wall plaster and studs were soaked up to a height of about 6 feet, and some moisture damage had started on back of bedroom wall, adjacent. After some consultation, we decided it was best to take out a small section of the bedroom wall and install extra studs beside the ones that had been water damaged. This added about 3 hours to the project total time estimate. Bill and Bob were fast, efficient and, I might add, great to work with. Funny guys. Project lasted 2 1/2 days. They tore out existing tile and walls, cut out a 3 x 5 section at the base of the bedroom wall, added insulation to the exterior bathroom wall, then installed cement board, including in the section of bedroom wall removed. Installed and ducted ceiling fan, which required working in the the tight. hot attic in 90-degree temps. Installed ceramic tile in tub/shower area. Installed new scald-proof faucet, shower head and faucet. Taped and sanded bedroom wall replacement section, making it paint-ready with no additional prep work required by me. Cleaned thoroughly. hauled away old materials. I would not hesitate to fire Bill again for any further kitchen/bathroom remodeling.

I cant say enough positive things about Bill Gilbert and his team. We had looked far and wide on Angie's list and Bill's pricing and quality is unparalleled in the Pittsburgh region. My wife and I are expecting our first child in three weeks and Bill made every effort to expedite the job before the due date. Bill worked with me in the process to provide referrals to find the cheapest tile in the area provide guidance on how to perform the demo. We had a number of change orders throughout the process and Bill was very flexible to work with. I really can't say enough about the quality of work Bill does. Bill is a true craftsman that takes pride in his work and offers a fair price and no hassle negotiation . The price of our job was around $3000 and other contractors had quoted us at 5000 and 10,000 respectively Look no further if you're looking for an honest contractor that takes pride in his work and commitment to true craftsmanship and attention to detail . I'm looking to redo my basement in a few years and I will certainly call Bill when I'm ready to do the job. This is an Angie's list success story.

Came and gave quick quote.  Quote cheaper than others I received.  Due to family illness had to change installation schedule several times.  Bill never complained and always found a way to work around my scheduled.  He worked well with the Tile Store salesman to make sure tile pattern went up the way it was designed.  Could not be happier.  Highly recommend.

Bill and Bob arrived at 8:30am and worked quietly and professionally every day for 2 weeks. They took about a 45 minute lunch and cleaned up their mess and left every day by 4:00. I felt they went above and beyond when taking care of some wall repairs. They even corrected some mistakes other contractors had made at no additional charge. I will use them again next year when we remodel our basement and laundry room.

It is good, I thought that they did a good job and they were the most reasonable. We had the bathroom completely regutted and they told us what to buy at Home Depot and we went and got it.
He was reasonable and did a good job in a timely manner. He was punctual. He sent us pictures of before and after on what he did.

WARNING, WARNING WARNING!!! DO NOT HIRE!!!
Service provider removed existing bath tub per our agreement
and replaced with tub of our choosing
Removed existing toilet, vanity, medicine cabinet, and vinyl floor. Did not
reinstall toilet, and we had to modify the flange ourselves.
Removed walls around shower
Replaced exhaust fan
Did not skim coat behind bathroom door
Did not feather out the walls beyond the surround
Removed associated waste from remodeling
Repaired plumbing and part of bathroom stack that he claimed was damaged
Wired GFCI, switches, and tub into the main breaker box
Replaced door and trim that he damaged, but did not replace or repair
wainscoting that also was damaged by him
Did not paint ceiling that he had modified in order to repair stack and
plumbing underneath the bathroom.
Did not move the existing exhaust fan from its location to where we had
requested it (over the bath tub)
Incorrectly installed a recessed shower/tub shelf-box unit even after
repeatedly emphasizing where we, the customer, wanted it.
Installed cement board in tub surround area, albeit incorrectly
Smoothed walls
Repeatedly disregarded the wishes of the paying customer when it suited him

*ASKED FOR PAYMENT IN CASH, AND DEMANDED $1000.00 MORE THAN HIS ESTIMATE*

Review:

WARNING, WARNING WARNING!!! DO NOT HIRE!!!
Per the estimate, Mr. Gilbert & associate arrived after some juggling of
the start date due to shipment of the bath tub we had ordered and after he had
finished a previous job with another client. The price agreed to was $3400.00
for remove/replace tub, wire tub into the main breaker, insulate and cement
board shower surround, remove & install toilet, remove & replace
vanity, replace exhaust fan, install wiring for the heated floor (with its own
breaker) and remove/prep floor (we would tile ourselves) and remove all
associated waste & trash.
We do not know where to begin our list of caveats regarding Gilbert Tile. We
feel they lured us into trusting them only to be led astray to the tune of an
extra $1000.00. We have many before, during, and after photos that we could
only hope to include in the review. It seemed that soon after the work began in
earnest, that Mr. Gilbert had en excuse for everything and only planned on
doing things his way. For example, after insulating the walls, he began
installing cement board. We asked why he wasn't installing a moisture vapor
barrier between the R-12 and cement board (should have been R-19) and his reply
was that "Everyone has their own way of doing things, this is how I do
it". Asked about it again, he outright refused. The cement board was
installed, but incorrectly at that. Nothing was plumb, there was a gap that a
standard # 2 yellow pencil easily fit into, and another gap between the wall
and the ceiling. There is a built-in lip on the Jacuzzi tub for the cement
board to be mounted flush with the tub in order to install tile against.
Because of how they installed the cement board, it extends beyond the lip of
the tub, creating a continuous space around the tub which varies in size from
1.25 inches on either the left and the right to 1.5 inches along the back wall.
We had repeatedly asked them to correct this, but their reply was to fill it
with thin set mortar.
A recessed box was to be installed but even that was done incorrectly, despite
the exact location being drawn out for him on the wall. The bathroom marble
window sill was removed and thrown away, and would not have been replaced if it
had not been noticed. He stated that he threw it out because it looked
unsightly and wouldn't match.
I could go on, and on, and on, but the worst infraction was
that Mr. Gilbert asked for cash. Not only did he want cash, he wanted an extra
$1,000.00 on top of the agreed price listed on his estimate. He said that it
was for ?extras? that he encountered during the work. I instructed him that I
wanted a detailed and itemized statement listing what would require an
additional thousand dollars. Against my better judgment, I paid what he asked,
and did NOT receive the statement, nor did I receive any type of invoice
detailing what was done. This is an unethical  and unacceptable business.
