I was a recent client of Clearwing Flowers (2022) in Richmond, VA. MIck was wonderful to work with, designing flowerbeds, procuring plants and supplies, and putting it all together for a great native garden, including trees as well as perennials to bring in and assist pollinators. I know that the garden will prosper this next year (and beyond) with Clearwing’s foundation. The plants have done beautifully and I’m amazed by the Clearwing’s care and hard work in making it happen.

I reached out to Mick in response to a Facebook ad I saw them post. I really enjoyed working with Mick! I had bought a house and wanted to install a berry patch. Mick brought a dozen bushes in a mix of blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries, and installed them with trellises for the black & red. They also taught me about the soil and the importance of adding an acidifier. All 12 bushes survived the first year, and I even got a few berries! Very excited to begin collecting from second-year canes next summer.

Mick has a comprehensive view of native plants and gave me a great working doc to design my yard. They had fair prices and were on time and I’d recommend them to anyone who wants to improve their yards.

Mick is wonderful! They were really helpful when I wasn’t sure exactly what to plant where. I am a huge native plant lover and I’m still learning about the plants in my local region. Mick identified invasive species in my yard (a Chinese privet was putting out hundreds of shoots and overwhelming/killing some of my purposefully planted garden beds after a French drain install—with all the standing water gone, it went haywire!). Basically, Mick helped me confirm how to remove it along with the winter creeper and other weeds while installing the actual garden beds (maybe about 300 square feet total?). Small/medium size projects of about 30 quart size nursery plants to install, but Mick spent extra time talking with me and collaborating on exactly what I was hoping for. Then, we confirmed the vision with Mick’s expertise (e.g. the ilex glabra (inkberry) wasn’t going to thrive against the house —identified compacted roots — so we shifted it…also identified slope for goldenrods that enjoy drainage..that sort of thing). Mick is a great listener and will totally transform your garden plots, assist with an existing plan, or in general provide expertise! You can’t go wrong hiring Mick.
