B&K Movers

B&K Movers helped us out a lot by making some of their guys available to move us on short notice on a Sunday. They got back to us right away after I made the request, and everything was in place within 72 hours. They arrived promptly on moving day, and their movers were polite and clean. The move took way longer than I anticipated, but I think that was because I hadn't planned very well (note to anyone using them: you will have the option to hire more guys and two trucks instead of one, and I recommend taking it--you'll be glad you did when your move only takes, say, six hours instead of ten). They were also extremely careful with our things--they didn't just throw things around and placed everything carefully where we asked in the new house. The price was quite reasonable, and we appreciated their patience and attention to detail. Thanks, B&K!

There were some surprises when I called. I heard about them from a Groupon ad. I purchased a Groupon voucher for 2 hours of moving services. I did not know that there would be an additional charge for a truck or for steps. When I called, they had to get back to me for the additional fees. We ended up providing the truck. They charged an additional $85 for the steps and their gas. We actually loaded the truck ourselves with all the furniture from our house and just used them to carry the heavy furniture up all the stairs at our son's apartment. They did come with all their own equipment (dolly and cords to tie the furniture to the dolly) and they were very fast and efficient at getting the furniture up the steps. They were careful with the furniture and were gracious about movng the furniture around when it got upstairs.

I began my search for a moving company much later than I should have (about a week and a half before the actual move) and was subsequently very limited with my options. While a couple other (large) moving companies did give me estimates, none of them would get my things to me in a timely manner. So when I called Band K and they told me they were available on the date of my move and could complete the job in that single day, I was very pleased. I also was somewhat nervous about committing to them, as I found them through a Craigslist ad, and couldn't really be sure they were the real deal. The price they quoted me was on par with what the larger moving companies that I had contacted quoted, and then, as a show of good faith, they took $100 off of the total price.

Because I was still on the fence about meeting with them and giving them my deposit, they offered to meet me at the Budget truck rental site they use (they don't have their own truck(s), but have business accounts with both Budget and U-Haul- which I know to be a fact because I called both companies and confirmed this) and gave me the option of renting the truck myself (the point was that the deposit was not being used to pay themselves, but to clear the overhead costs of setting up the move). As soon as they walked in and began talking to the Budget employees about previous jobs, I knew that unless this was a VERY well-rehearsed scheme, they were the real deal. We went over and signed the contract and they gave me a chance to ask any questions.

On the morning of the move, we had several setbacks, but they guys always remained courteous and professional despite the delayed start. Once they actually got started moving my furniture, things went smoothly. They arrived at my new apartment in a timely manner and quickly moved all of my things inside. A couple pieces of my furniture did get ding-ed, which is the only reason I gave a 'B' for quality, however, i feel like taking furniture on a 5 hour drive in a truck comes with certain risks, no matter who is doing the moving so I absolutely would not hold this against them. If you have something you particularly care about, just make sure they know and I'm sure they would be happy to take extra precautions with it.

I highly recommend Band K movers and don't see why anyone would want to pay some huge company to bounce your things around up and down the coast, getting them to you a week or later down the line, when you can pay these guys to take care of only YOUR things and get them directly to your new place.
