Dangerous and unethical - buyer beware. Furnaces have the potential to be lethal, find a real professional and keep your family safe. Admiral installed a brand new Lennox furnace without doing any sort of measurements to determine what size furnace would be safe for our home. Within the first two years, the furnace began leaking carbon monoxide -- the levels were too low to set off our CO alarms, but high enough to cause serious permanent damage to my family (including 3 young children). By the grace of angels we discovered the leak as it worsened in the last couple months and almost became fatal (confirmed by medical follow up). When Admiral came out to fix this, they guaranteed "with 100% certainty" that it was a cracked heat exchanger (which they later denied saying when it was convenient for them). They agreed (after an unprofessional argument) to replace the furnace (which was still under warranty) only with the exact same size furnace. Our home had shown all the symptoms of a furnace that was sized too large (a potential cause of a cracked heat exchanger in a new furnace), so we were scared to replace it with the same furnace without first making sure it was a safe size for our home. We asked Admiral about the sizing and partner Brian glanced up at our basement ceiling and said, "eh, looks ok." We asked them to do the measurements according the Lennox manufacturer recommendation for safety. Admiral strangely blatantly refused, stating they "will absolutely not be doing a load calculation." (Why??) Fast forward -- we had an actual expert come and do the load calculation and, lo and behold, Admiral had given us a furnace that was dangerously large for our home. Also strangely, the furnace manufacturer Lennox offered Admiral a check for $4000 to refund us for the death trap furnace they sold us, but Admiral refused this, too. The local Lennox rep Chris Vicari preferred to do nothing in regards to ensuring the safety of families with Lennox products, because his main concern was losing his commissions from Admiral. Throughout our experience with admiral, they never once showed concern for our family's health, never once apologized, never asked if we were okay or any other questions of concern about our serious health issues from this, spoke condescendingly and insulting while we were scared going through crisis, were difficult at every step as we tried to make sure our family was safe with basic industry standard safety requests, reminded us multiple times what a huge favor they were doing for us by doing the very bare minimum that they could get away with, and were perfectly content to leave us high and dry with permanently injured children. They truly didn't care. I will never understand why they refused to do the right thing and just measure properly when given the second chance to fix this and make sure we were safe. They really felt okay putting in the same dangerously oversized furnace in a home with my 3 children, without first making sure it would be safe. It baffles me. This is not a difficult calculation... it is standard in HVAC. I am in a completely different field and was able to do the load calculation myself without struggle.... I ended up with the same number that the pros ended up with. The owner acted like it was rocket science... while at the same time condescendingly pointing out repeatedly what an expert he was....... The owner Steve only believes that other men are worth his time and has zero empathy... insulting, arguing, and condescending our family the day after it was confirmed that I had nearly lost my life and that my children would now need follow up care for permanent injury... we were scared and in crisis and looking to him to make sure we were safe this time -- giving them the chance to make this right, after their original incident of lazy workmanship had led to this life altering situation (because, they're such "experts" that they don't need to bother with those pesky safety standards - they can just eye it, as they explained to me.)... he really said "funny I have been in HVAC for 30 years and you have been researching for 2 days", how heartless can a person get? (hey Steve, don't you know that no one does better research than a worried mother?? )... his son/partner Brian is a chip off the ol' block and acts like he knows everything, but is almost too incompetent to even have a conversation with. He's lucky his dad gave him a job because he'd have trouble elsewhere with his attitude. Carbon monoxide poisoning on a new furnace is not something that happens often, but it happens - these are NOT the kind of people you want anywhere near anything having to with your family's well-being. It's money and pride over everything for these guys, stay far, far away. Still waiting on that apology, Steve.... and in case it ever occurred to you to ask how any of us are doing health wise, the answer is - not well. But I know you won't bother to ask.
Response from ADMIRAL HEATING & COOLING COMPANY
"For over 50 years, Admiral Heating and Cooling has been serving the Pittsburgh area, as a family-owned business. We understand that a home is where we are meant to feel safe. We have built our business operating with integrity, and appreciate our life long customers who have come to expect that from us. We were appalled and disheartened to read this review of our company. In this case, we made every attempt to satisfy the customer, but were unable to come to an agreement. The reviews by the customer and her mother are factually incorrect, unjustified, and slanderous. The furnace was properly sized and installed in 2017; we did not hear anything from the homeowner until March of 2021. Although our company was not at fault in any way, the manufacturer, Lennox, offered a brand new furnace which would be installed for free; this was not acceptable to the homeowner and her mother. Our family-owned company prides itself on customer service and satisfaction by doing what is right for every customer. In this case, it is important to understand that because well over 3 years elapsed, we have no idea if the furnace was properly maintained. We promptly responded to the first and only call 3 years after the installation. We were never allowed back into the house by the homeowner or her mother. These unwarranted and baseless complaints filed by the homeowner and her mother, Ann Cipriani, are harming our family’s business and reputation. The Better Business Bureau has already reviewed this homeowner’s complaint and dismissed it. Admiral values the opportunity to continue to provide our HVAC solutions to Pittsburgh families. Sincerely, Steve Ubinger Admiral Heating & Cooling Co."

I have had them for years and they are fantastic. I buy the agreement every year and I have had them for years. I've looked around periodically through the years and they are average. Top notch. They will come at 6am if I let them. Family owned business, very pleasant to work with, and know their products. One person comes out, normally half hour.

Somebody recommended them to me and I called them and they were fine. They come out on a regular basis, they check my air conditioner, they change filters. They make me feel safe! They are very attentive, I don?t have to remember, they remind me.

The prices are good. Sometimes it?s $100, sometimes it?s less, it depends upon what they have to do. The filter rises the price a little bit, when they have to provide the filter. It?s nothing outrageous considering they make you feel safe. I think it?s worth it!

I called on Monday morning and Steve was already in the area and stopped by within an hour of speaking to him.  He checked out the furnace, identified where a clog was, fixed it, improved how the condensate was running toward the drain and showed us how to do some maintenance if we have an issue again. He also checked our outdoor AC unit and leveled it since the dirt is so soft and had sunk on one side.
They were prompt, courteous, informative and reasonable priced.  I am very happy with the service as usual.  they also installed the system originally and come to do the maintenance. Never had an issue at all.  Only great service.

Mydaughter callled as her A/C was not working.  They responded the  same day and checked it out and got it running but
they said it probably would quit as it was quite old. THey gave her a qoute to replace the unit. She called the following  Monday
and told them to proceed with the work. Steve explained that they probably couldn't to it for a couple of weeks due to the
hot weather and other commitments.  He did loan her a window unit so she had some cooling. He called back 2 days later
and said they would be able to install the unit on that Friday.  THey showed up as promised on time and had the installation
done by early afternoon.  As usual the workers were very professional and the work was very well done.

Steve from Admiral was very upbeat, genuine, and easy to work with.  His office administrator was equally polite and helpful.  My job wasn't urgent, but he came out within a day or two to take a look at my current set-up.  He gave me a rough verbal quote and followed up the next day with a written mailed quote, including a few different pricing options for various models.  Within a week, he installed the new unit and even sent in the warranty registration for the Lennox unit.  He was fairly flexible about scheduling and offered to come on a Saturday for the initial quote.  I got one other comparable quote from Metro, but the product quality was much higher from Admiral for the 2-ton unit and they were friendly.

I can't say enough good things about our experience with Admiral. From my husband's initial contact with Steve to the final contact with Brian, we just had a great experience. Their pricing was competitive, their service excellent and we feel that we found a new HVAC service that we can trust for our future needs.

Admiral is a 3rd generation family owned business, and that is clear (in a good way) through their customer service.  Brian at Admiral provided us with a quote and saw the job through completion.  Originally the work was scheduled because we had a leaky condenser coil that needed to be replaced under warranty. A little bit annoying that the warranty only covered the part and not the service, but that's not Admirals fault.  Brian used the "sniffer" technique as opposed to the potentially harmful "dye in the coolant" technique that many other company's have resorted to because it's easier for them, not better for your system. He ordered the part and scheduled the service- providing an estimate not to exceed.  We also requested that while the coolant was out of the system that they move our AC unit about 10 feet to make room for a future addition.  They completely re-ran all of the lines (more professionally and cleaner than the original installation) and installed a new pad.  This was a little more costly than I originally expected, but so is everything HVAC related.  They did exactly what we asked and stuck to their NTE quote. Will use again.

Having researched the company on Angie's List and with the Better Business Bureau, I contacted Admiral Heating and Cooling the day after I had turned on my fan only to find smoke coming out of the ducts and the fan ultimately inoperable.  I requested service for Saturday, the next day, which was graciously provided.  As promised, a technician called me at 8:30 a. m. to advise that he was on the way, mine being the first call, which was great.  He quickly diagnosed the problem.  He knew that my furnace is thirty-seven years old, but he did not attempt to sell me a new system, rather indicated that the motor was the problem and that it could be replaced for about $500 if I wished to do that.  That was the option I chose.  Technician Pat told me that he did not have the motor with him, but could get it.  I could not imagine that this would be completed on a Saturday, thus my wife and I went out to eat and perform some errands.  When we returned home less than four hours later, there were three messages from Admiral on our voice mail and as soon as I walked in the door, there was a call from a different technician, asking if he could come by in a few minutes to install the new motor, having already obtained it and cleaned the housing.  He arrived soon after the call and completed the work within about twenty minutes.  He was not certain how much time Pat had spent on the matter earlier, and suggested that he send me a bill on Monday which I could pay when I wish.  I did not sign or initial anything, rather the company apparently relies on a gentlemen's agreement, a rarity in today's world of business.  The professionalism, expertise, and prompt response provided by Admiral Heating and Cooling were exemplary and will cause me to call the company for my future heating and cooling needs.  It will be a pleasure to deal with a business of its stature when I need to replace my system.

Unfortunately, the motor blew out later in the day after installation, again bringing about an unpleasant odor and smoke. when the system was turned on.  The fan ultimately ceased to operate, leaving me with no heating or cooling system.  I left a message for the company on that day, Sunday, and received a return call/voice mail message the morning of the next business day, Monday. (I had indicated during my Sunday call that I was not requesting same-day service, assuming that there would be a fee for an emergency call. I called the office Monday and was told by Karen that Pat had gone to Pittsburgh to get another motor.  He came to the house mid-day and diagnosed the problem as being with the wiring.  He corrected it and installed a new motor at no additional cost for labor or parts.

The service and responsiveness of the company was top-notch throughout.

If there is any downside, it is that the company does not accept credit cards, something which was surprising to me, given the large amounts of money that change hands for heating and cooling work.
