This review is regarding ACA Construction AKA Bryan Scott Berkich. My wife and I contacted ACA construction in July of 2013. We wanted to complete a second story addition and after several estimates Mr. Scott Berkich came in with the best price and seemed like a very knowledgeable contractor. We finally signed off on a contract and gave him a $2,000 deposit to begin drawings and engineering plans on our addition (this was AFTER we went to another customers home and viewed the work, spoke with them, etc). We did some research on Scott before giving him the payment and found a few disgruntling issues. We brought these up with Scott in a meeting and he assured us they were because of troubles with his marriage and children and they were from years ago, etc etc. We decided to give Scott a chance after all the reviewing and meeting we have done I felt confident he would come through for us. We welcomed this man into our home, met my whole family, child, had several meetings on our project and once he cashed our check we spents weeks trying to find out how things were coming along. It was excuse after excuse. He didn't have the proper software, his computer broke, his family was ill, he had a wedding to attend, etc. This went on from August 2013 until November 2013 until I demanded our money back. Scott said he had mailed the check several times and finally after numerous attempts I gave up on contacting him and filed a claim with the magistrate. Hopefully we can get our money back but its up to the courts now. This was the first time we have ever worked with a contractor and NEVER again in my life will I pay someone before any work is completed and I will immediately forget about any contractor with even ONE bad review. From what I can tell this man has done this to many people and should be put in jail. His business is to rip people off - not work, his name keeps changing, website, etc. Please be very careful if EVER dealing with this contractor.
Description of Work: We paid Scott Berkich $2,000 as a downpayment to start drawings and engineering for a second story addition on our home that he never did and did not refund our money as of yet

.Scott Berkich took our down payment and ran. He was contracted with us to complete work needed on our new home, some of which needed immediate attention due to safety concerns. Scott never once set foot in our house. Every single day he promised he would start working "tomorrow". Every day we had to call him to see whether or not he was going to start the work. Different excuses were used: "I'm sick", "I'm at the hospital", "I have to have testing completed", etc. Since he was a BBB endorsed business, we thought we had nothing to worry about. Wrong. Since Scott is his middle name, when we Googled this man, we eventually found out that there were numerous arrests and law suits filed against him under his legal name and different business names. We were quite concerned when we found this out and being that it was almost a month with absolutley no work completed, we wanted to terminate services and be refunded. We closed on our house in mid-May and had to be out of our townhouse by July 1. Since we were under such a strict deadline, we went ahead and sent a notorized letter to ACA Construction terminating services, and requesting our house keys back as well as a refund in the form of a money order or cash; absolutley under no circumstances would we accept a check. If we did not receive payment with in one week, we would go to the magistrate and file a claim. Of course, we never heard from him. The day we had a meeting set up with our borough's magistrate, we found a personal check in our mailbox from Scott with a note asking us not to cash it for a week and it was post-dated. Since that was against our agreed upon terms, we were not satisfied. A few days later, Scott called us and asked us to rip up the check and he would meet us with cash. Obviously, he wrote us a bad check. Scott did refund us the downpayment after weeks of us calling him as well as threatening legal action. He ruined what should have been an exciting time in my wife and I's lives by placing uneccesary stress and worry on us. Luckily, we found a company who was able to get all of the work down before we moved in.
Description of Work: Contracted Scott Berkich for general contractor-type of work on our new house.
