Here's the story: this man took my $7000 as an upfront payment to replace the windows in my house. He got that money in late October, 2010, and said the work would be done the first week of December. Beginning the first week of Dec, he told me of delays, reasons he couldn't do the job "now"; and even made up a story about the windows being damaged and returned to the factory to be remade. Problem is, this company and its named owner never ordered the windows; I know because he admitted it in april when i finally had had enough delays and called the window manufacturer.Gary Eberts admitted that he had taken my money to use to cover an existing supplier debt and had never ordered my windows. so it took me calling the local police and their calling him to get my money returned.I have heard since this incident that he had done this same thing to a friend of a friend of mine, to the tune of $20,000, and that other customer never got his money back.My experience is that this man is a fraud, and under the PA Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act, he committed third degree felony fraud. The only reason I did not pursue that criminal complaint is that I got my money back, without the interest on the six months he "held" my money.Run the other direction from this dishonest contractor!!
Description of Work: Eberts was to order windows of my choice to replace all the windows in my home. he measured, gave me a price, I agreed to it though we did not have a written contract, and I gave him a $7000 down payment. He did not order the windows and it required my calling the police for intervention for him to repay the full amount. I discovered his dishonesty six months later when i called the window manufacturer directly to find out what was happening with my windows. The contractor gave me story after excuse about why the windows that I ordered in late Oct 2010 had not been delivered by April. I was promised that they would be made and installation would happen in early Dec, 2010. Eberts continually made up excuses for the delay.
