In one word, AWFUL. Do not hire Mike Doland or Southern Exposure. Mike is not a professional painter; his work is equivalent to that of the average homeowner doing their own painting. Lines are not straight, paint coverage was thin, and that was using premium paint. Mike is very disorganized in his process. He literally could be painting the living room, and decide that he needs to do something in the spare bedroom, then comes back to the kitchen. Stuff is everywhere. He moves belongs from each room several times over. We had new hardwood floors and carpet installed prior to painting. He knew this when hired. He gouged our hardwood floors and dripped paint on our carpets in several places. He chipped our newly installed granite counters and scratched the new sink the day after they were installed - before we even got to use them! He also moved the bleach from the laundry area onto the new carpet. He thought nothing of leaning his ladders against freshly painted walls, and, told me it was dry, no problem. Of course, the ladders left black marks on the wall that he had to touch up. We had several chats with him to provide feedback and voice our concerns and each time he would say he wasn't finished yet and to wait until then. Or, he would tell us that "it was beyond the scope of the job." It got to the point that after 6-8 weeks of dealing with him, we just wanted him out of the house. After he was "finished" and left, we had to hire another painter to repaint the house. This entailed putting a solid coat of paint on all walls, ceilings and trim to get full coverage, since Mike's job was so spotty. Don't waste your hard-earned money on Mike Doland or Southern Exposure Painting.

They were very professional, efficient and friendly. They took precautionary measures to make sure everything remained clean. They also came on time and cleaned up everything after the work was done. They did a very good job and the price was reasonable.

It was a pleasure working with Mike Doland and his project manager, Brook Holler. Actually all of the painters were professional and very easy to have in my home. Mike came and walked the entire house and submitted a very detailed estimate even including the paint colors. The painting crew had to work around another contractor who was also working in the house and they did this with absolute professionalism. They even arranged to return after the other contractor had finished to repaint a damaged wall and do other touch ups.
