Vernon Davis

I found Mr. Davis through Angie's list. I called on a Wednesday and he came that week to do the work. He did not provide an estimate, and I neglected to ask what he would charge per window, because I read that other people had paid $35-$40 per window for the same work. (oops-my fault!) He did the work, but he did not do it properly and he did not even clean up. My father-in-law had to come and re-do the glazing on the two panes he replaced because he did not do them correctly (did not use glazers points and used way too much glazing putty, did not clean the outsides of the glass so they were covered with fingerprints). He damaged the wood all around the windows when he pried off the trim and when he removed the old glass and glazing, so there are chips and dents all around the windows now. Then when he was done, he told us it would be $60 per window for the chain replacement, and $20 per pane for the glass replacement, which was double what I expected, based on others reports. I gave him a tip/gas money-did not notice how poor a job he'd done 'til after he left. I guess I should have asked a few more questions before having him come out and do the work. We were pretty disappointed and ended up spending more than an hour after he left cleaning up the area, and another couple hours re-glazing the panes he had replaced.

I called to schedule the work and Mr. Davis said he would come out in two days. The day of the work was pouring rain, but Mr. Davis came anyway after I called to assure him we didn't mind if the window was taken out for a period of time. He was polite, professional and fixed the window.

Mr. Davis is a gentleman of a high order, a type rarely encountered. He came out to assess the job (on a Sunday) a few days after my husband's first call. Then and on the repair day, he was punctual, set up quickly, asked needed questions, and did the job in @3 hours, including a trip to his supplier for replacement glass. When he couldn't find glass of the needed size at two places, he called back to consult. Mr. Davis also advised us about maintaining vinyl windows, replacing windows in our 100+ yr. old house, and he cleaned up, inside and out.

Unlike the large glass companies that want you to bring windows to them for repair, Vernon makes house calls!! He returns telephone calls in a timely manner, and he keeps his word. He is courteous, responsible, and very skilled. He really understands and appreciates older houses. I would not hesitate to hire him again.

Vernon was responsive and very prompt. He came in for an estimate within a day of my call, and scheduled the work for a few days later. He arrived at the exact time he said he would. His prices were extremely reasonable, just $35 per window for the work I needed. He also cleaned up when he was finished. He was pleasant and professional to deal with.
