We trusted him and thought things had gone well. Now we know - DO NOT USE THIS CONTRACTOR. Any money you save you will spend correcting his work. The worst part is that he puts your health and safety at risk by disregarding even the most basic safety standards. Albert represented to us that he had experience remodeling. We soon deduced that we had been his first remodel customers. Nearly everything he did has to be redone, duplicating our original cost. His website says he stands by his work and it is entirely false. Major errors: 1) Albert laid the kitchen tile on wood floors, rather than pouring a stable base. Because the wood contracts and expands, the grout is constantly coming out. An experienced contractor came in and told us we would need to tear out the whole kitchen floor, buy all new tiles, take out the brand new cabinets (potentially harming them). It is a lot of work but our new floor with the constant grout coming out looks very old and is falling apart. Estimated cost to repair his error: $6,000. 2) He hooked up all of our kitchen appliances to a single circuit. This is against code (they each need their own) and a major fire hazard. He also took out all the boxes when he installed the high hats. He overloaded our electrical box. These were all fire hazards and we had to have them corrected immediately, at a cost of $3,500. 3) He built a utilities closet in our basement. He left the pipe that was to go to the kitchen to make ice cubes hanging, and we had to have a plumber cut it off ($165). He built the walls too close to the heater, causing a fire hazard. This was remediated by replacing the furnace and putting in insolated pipes. Had we not replaced the heater, we would have had to tear down the utility closet walls. 4) He left grout on the basement floor tiles for a week, which was like having cement spread across your floor and left a week; it doesn't come off . He finally resorted to using some very strong dissolvent to remove the grout, and still pieces are left on. And that was the good news. He thought he would have to tear out 600 sq feet of italian tile, repurchase, and start over. He ordered an extra 100 sq feet of tile that we were unable to return - a small error for him that cost us $$$. The grout incident could have been absolutely disasterous. At first Albert tried to correct his work, but when it became obvious how deficient his work was, he refused to return our phone calls and started insulting us personally.
