Mary Ann Duffy Architect

About us

Based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Partnership of DuffySebra grew out of a shared desire by Mary Ann Duffy and Ken Sebra to make good marks on the landscape. We are passionate about creating places with heart and soul, collaborating on every project, leading a dialogue of discovery which challenges client, architect and place, to reveal what is possible. A woman managed firm, with over 20 years combined design/construction experience, our services include feasibility studies, master planning, architecture, and construction administration for renovations, building additions, and new buildings. Utilizing the tools of drawing, study models, animation, and BIM (Building Information Modeling), we help our clients visualize the design and the builder to bid and construct the project. Incorporating sustainable design strategies in all projects, we are committed to green architecture, focused on creating healthy environments, while balancing initial construction with ongoing maintenance and operation costs. We offer services that provide building LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and ENERGY STAR certification.

I can highly recommend using the services of Mary Ann Duffy. She has a kean eye and offered me some wonderful ideas for my project. She addressed my structural concerns and offered ideas to resolve the issues. She was very knowledgeable about the City's regulations and was very familiar with the character of the neighborhood. It was a very pleasant experience working with a professional like Ms. Duffy.

Mary Ann Duffy was a lifesaver in an upgrade/remodel project. Having fired an incompetent contractor, and with only 2 days to find help with our recently purchased center city rowhouse, Ms Duffy offered a quick interview and paid serious attention to our description of needs and desires. She had cabinet makers, contractor, painters at her fingertips and appeared to have the experience and personality we were looking for. After a two hour home visit, we signed on, and caught a scheduled plane. Via, phone and internet, Ms. Duffy designed, worked with us for modifications of drawings, chose materials, hired appropriate people, negotiated prices, located items, picked up pieces too numerous to note, and did on-site supervision of every single bit of the work. She kept us in the loop and made phone or email contact virtually every day. Her wonderful sense of professionalism, enthusiasm, plus a sparkling personality really kept our spirits up. We had given her an 10 week deadline for rather a lot of work, but she plunged in and finished on time, amazingly, except for one delayed window order. (Window company error). She arranged for transfer of funds and payments, and acted as both architect and general contractor. And to her additional credit, she personally followed up on a few minor details that needed rework or finish work, for no extra fee. We felt her professional services rate was very reasonable, and can't imagine anyone doing a better, more thorough job. We would hire her again and would recommend her to anyone. A+++

I am renovating my house in South Philly and am designing the lay out of the second floor. I scheduled an appointment with Mary Ann to come to my house to see what I was working with. I presented a few different ideas on what I would like to have happen and the elements that were important for me. In any row home more light and storage are always needed. I also wanted to create access to the roof. I wanted to consult a professional as a second set of eyes to make sure I did not miss anything signicant or insignificant. With her help and advise I was able to redesign the space more efficiently and economically. Specifically, she reccomended a spiral staircase instead of a standard one and keeping the bathtub and shower in line with each other. It was a pleasure to meet and work with Mary. Her help is greatly appreciated.

Friendly and Professional! Helpful at the initial interview and provided valuable information regarding materials, permit requirements and the design and renovation process as well as expertise and support in dealing with the contractor during construction. Most detailed quote, fair fee and attention to all issues.
