Kaufman Roofing Inc

I left a message on one day and heard back the next. A rep from the Kaufman group, Greg,  came out within the week to inspect our interior damage from a leak this summer(probably the record rainfall this spring and summer seasons). Their quote was in the middle of the four we received and I felt that Greg was an honest man. We scheduled work to begin the following week but we they had an earlier opening they offered that and we took it. Work was set to begin on a Friday morning in Center City Philly. When they called at 915(due to arrive at 930) and said they would be  late, I wasn't surprised-traffic is heavy at the 9:00 hour. They arrived at 945, unloaded, parked and started work at 10. They finished at 230pm and were gone by 3pm. 
Two weeks later they came back to check the interior when we pulled down the drywall and called to say that it was still damp behind the damaged ceiling. Greg felt that it was due to being wet and enclosed for so long. We let it open to air for 3 days, waited cautiously optimistic through another weekend of rain and saw that indeed, the ceiling and attic area dried out. We have a 12 year limited warranty on the roof, and we must have maintenance (approx $300) every 4-5 years to maintain the integrity of the roof.

This post is to warn others about M. Kaufman Roofing Contractors, Inc. or as they are known in Northeast Philadelphia - Kaufman Roofing.   I am not one to complain, but I feel that I should warn the public about what I perceived to be Kaufman Roofing's lack of business ethics, as well, as their lack of quality workmanship during a roofing job that they did on our row home. M. Kaufman Roofing was contracted to construct two new skylights, as well as a new roof.   We have used M. Kaufman Roofing Contractors, Inc. in the past with no problems.  They have been in the roofing business for over 30 years.  Apparently, we were now dealing with the second generation of M. Kaufman Roofing Contractors, Inc.  They were contracted to construct a ?top main roof,? two new skylights, etc.  I reviewed their work and found that they had not completed the project.  The following was noted:   workmanship was inadequate; did not call prior to showing up for this job; they damaged the eave box for the downspout; they destroyed a screen window with their ladder; they did not completely coat the roof, they damaged the bargeboard and cover which was supposed to be removed during the first job and replaced with new material.  They used short screws instead of nails; they left both skylights unlocked; they did not fix the soil pipe between skylights; they damaged the existing party box cover; they did not install flashing to the base of the rear chimney; they did not remove all job related debris and haul it away from the job site.      I tried to resolve the problem by calling M. Kaufman Roofing Contractors.  Each time I called M. Kaufman Roofing, I was met with extreme verbal abuse.  They were rude, nasty, unhelpful, unprofessional, and most definitely lacked ethical business practices.  I would never recommend M. Kaufman Roofing Contractors, Inc. for any roofing job.  They were dishonest in their dealings and the worst of the roofing contractors.   Avoid M. Kaufman Roofing Contractors, Inc. - they are just bad news.   I felt that they had clearly misrepresented themselves.   

Contacted to repair and coat roof of residential home while the roof was still under warranty.  When Kaufman estimated and installed our roof some years ago, at least then they acted professionally. The work has proven to be subpar, as we have had numerous leaks and had to call them back repeatedly. Usually they did not respond.  When they did, we generally received an argument that the leaks were not covered by the warranty.  When we called requesting warranty repairs, the man answering the phone was argumentative, verbally abusive and rude. I thought perhaps it was a problem with me - so I gave the phone to my level headed husband - the man hung up on him. When my husband called back to try to reason with the man, he hung up on him again!

M. Kaufman Roofing Contractors did not call prior to showing up for this job. After they finished the job, I reviewed their work, took photos, and found that they had not correctly completed the project. The following was noted: they took debris from my roof and placed it on my neighbor's roof; they damaged the eave box for the downspout; destroyed a screen window with their ladder; did not coat the roof with an aluminum fibrated coating, they damaged the barge board and cover; used screws instead of nails; left skylights unlocked; did not paint skylights with exterior paint; did not fix soil pipe between skylights; damaged existed party box cover; did not install flashing to base of rear chimney; did not remove all job related debris and haul way from job site. I contacted M. Kaufman Roofing's Customer Service Department about these issues. Kaufman Roofing did not respond in a positive manner to any of my concerns. They refused to repair the roofing job. They were verbally abusive, rude, nasty, unhelpful, and unprofessional. I would never recommend M. Kaufman Roofing Contractors, Inc. for any roofing job. M. Kaufman Roofing Contractors are just bad news.

Whenever we needed to call them, they have been reliable and fixed anything that needed to be done.
