On the day they were scheduled to come evaluate our house, no one showed up. They called after the appointment and said the worker's car broke down. That was disconcerting because I read a review on Angie's List that said the same thing, with the same excuse.
The guy came the next day and immediately said that the gutters were the wrong size, too small, and that replacing the gutters would solve the bay window problem, easy. He would also add a gutter to the window on the third floor above the bay roof, to further divert water from the bay itself.
It would cost around $1200, and that would be that. Looking at our neighbors' houses, our gutters were smaller (narrower) than anyone else's, so I thought "Great. Should be fixed. There was also an issue with run-off from the porch roof, and we were assured that would be taken care of as well.
They replaced the gutters quickly, and they looked fine. However, the installer who added the gutter above the bay roof, didn't divert the water anywhere. It was pouring directly over the one problem spot that we called Gutter Gurus to address.
I called them back, and explained the situation, and they said they would be out to add a piece to divert it, if we wanted. The tone of the call made me feel as if I was imposing on them, rather than patronizing their business. They came back out and quickly installed a channel from the gutter they added to the existing gutter.
The next time it rained, water POURED into our bay window, ruining the wall.
I called them AGAIN and explained that their work did not address the problem. Every time I called them, the guy on the phone was rude and acted like I was a burden on his time. I had to call about the misinstalled gutter, the bay window, and also the piece of flashing they adding to the porch roof (which didn't work.)
After the final call, they sent another guy out to assess the situation, and HE explained that, actually, the problem was that the siding on the bay was installed incorrectly, and he could easily fix the problem by replacing all of the siding. On the initial visit to fix our bay window, when we agreed to pay $1200 to replace the gutters, no one mentioned anything about the siding.
After replacing all our gutters (which had been installed 5 years prior by the previous owner), we decided not to pursue business with them.
After consultation with another roofer, I was told that the problem would be fixed by installing a diverter for $75.
I will never use Gutter Gurus again.
Approx 1 month after we moved into our home, our roof sprung a major leak in June 2013 around 1am. Within hours we had water pouring from the ceilings, into the fireplace, into the crawl space in our basement, etc. It was HORRIBLE, especially since my mom had suddenly and tragically died the day after our roof sprung a leak!!! The issues with our roof and faulty paperwork were severe enough for us to enter into lawsuit with multiple parties. Due to how my mom died, at the same time we entered lawsuit over our home, we also had to enter into lawsuit over my mom. Obviously, this was a very stressful time for my husband and I being that we had just moved in, and even more so being that we had heavy non-stop rain in June 2013, which made it very difficult for us to find roofers in our area that would return calls, show up, etc., despite having found them on Angie's List. We were extremely vulnerable to being ripped off, etc., being that we had 3 major events happen at one time, while still needing to go to work, etc., and dealing with intense emotional and physical exhaustion. We were a prime target for any company that was willing to take advantage of us while we were at a disadvantaged state.
We had problems finding reliable and trustworthy roofers in NJ, when looking outside of people we knew on a personal level. We rolled the dice and asked Gutter Gurus to come out. We were skeptical because they were located in PA, all while we are in NJ, and they only had 1 review for roof work, all while their name made it seem they only specialized in gutters. We decided to reach out and meet with them anyway. Vince came out. He looked young, and my husband and I both admitted that our first impression caused us to wonder if this meant "inexperienced sales person just looking to make a paycheck". HOWEVER, Vince BLEW US AWAY with his knowledge of products (sheathing, shingles, etc.), and he wasn't pushy with which product we should buy. We asked question after question, which included questions such as, "What happens if you go out of business in 2 years and we have a problem with your work in 3 years?", etc. We put Vince under intense investigations and made him show us proof for anything he said, which later included having him write specifics on our receipt, etc. My husband and I are well aware we don't live in a world where "someone's word" or a "mere handshake" mean anything anymore. Clearly my husband and I don't put a ton of trust into people to do work on our home when we don't know them on a personal level. For example, our plumber is a close friend of ours, etc., but we didn't want to drag anyone we knew on a personal level that could handle our roof issues through the lawsuit we suspected we'd have to get involved in. In any event, we loved that Vince showed no offense to our "grilling questions" and that he showed no resistance in backing up anything he said. He did make suggestions on product, which were sometimes more expensive, and sometimes not, and when we questioned his suggestions, he kindly explained "why" he made those suggestions, if he hadn't already explained "why" he was making any particular suggestion. As a result of our questions mixed in with Vince's explanations, Vince disclosed some "tricks of the trade" that we learned Gutter Gurus clearly refuses to take part in to ensure quality and the longevity of their business, as this is a family owned business. He seemed very sincere when speaking and making suggestions. Of course, we still wondered if that were part of some "manipulative sales pitch", but like I said, Vince backed up everything he said and we triple checked everything he said.
See, unbeknownst to Vice and Gutter Gurus, I have 2 close friends here in NJ that own roofing companies and do both commercial and residential roofing (20+years), and a cousin whom has been building houses professionally (including his own beautiful homes) for 30+ years. Unbeknownst to Vince and Gutter Gurus, all 3 came out before, during and after Gutter Gurus performed their work. Due to there being a lawsuit with our home, we didn't want anyone we knew on a personal level performing the work. HOWEVER, anything and everything Vince, as well as any staff at Gutter Gurus said, did, suggested, etc., was discussed with 3 highly skilled professionals that my husband and I personally know, hence they too wanted to make sure my husband and I didn't get ripped off, etc.
In addition, my husband and I asked Gutter Gurus to take pictures of the roof, especially any problematic areas, by explaining we wanted to see what was going on since we ourselves weren't able/willing to get on the roof at the time. Gutter Gurus did so with no hesitation, but with complete understanding. AND, in the midst of their work, they texted my husband a picture of a soak and wet object, which had been stuffed into the ceiling. They then texted a picture of the object once they removed it, which turned out to be the seller's BATHROBE, which she/workers put in the ceiling in efforts to conceal the leak she was experiencing in the living room ceiling. Gutter Gurus even went a step further and saved the bathrobe they pulled from the area to continue their work, as opposed to discarding the bathrobe, which was helpful to us, as this allowed us to take video and more pics of the bathrobe for further evidence for our lawsuit. AND, our attorney for the case involving our home (a well known pit bull we were referred to by a friend of ours whom owns multiple homes) sent his law firm's inspector out to reinspect our home (our attorney's inspector is a structural engineer) and any and all work performed by Gutter Gurus passed his inspection with flying colors!!! THAT speaks VOLUMES!!! So, if you want HONESTY and QUALITY, we highly recommend Gutter Gurus! Once we explained to Vince and Gutter Gurus that there was a lawsuit pending, Vince offered to testify and/or submit written statement about the condition our roof was in if we wanted/needed him to do so. That speaks volumes when a worker/company offers that without being asked to do so, subpoenaed to do so, etc. It shows Gutter Guru's personal dislike for injustice, and those are the only people and companies my husband and I ever enjoy doing business with!!! I think everyone would agree with THAT!!!
The other thing we liked about Gutter Gurus is that the business is family owned. Vince's Uncle Lou oversees workers, and he doesn't take that responsibility lightly. He keeps an eagle eye on staff and they have strict policies for workers. Lou makes it very clear that workers will not be paid for repairs that need to be done, should repairs on work they perform need to be redone. They treat their employees very nicely, but they make it very clear they do not overlook/tolerate poor workmanship, as they keep in mind this only frustrates customers, all while having to come out a 2nd time only costs them time and money too. Gutter Gurus definitely strives to get it right the first time around!!!
I have to say that everything this company did at our home was as if they were working on their own home. It was actually surreal b/c that's not so easy to find nowadays. Vince and his Uncle Lou were very personable to boot. They can gauge when a customer does/doesn't have the time/desire to chat. If you want to be personable, they are personable at heart and you'll laugh and enjoy the genuine and comedic conversations. If you're not the personable type and just want to talk business, they take no offense to that either.

Long story short, we are continuing to have trouble with getting this repaired. Third service call from Comcast today. I would totally recommend not using Gutter Gurus (or Roof Gurus). Besides Vince, we dealt with another co-owner who had a very miserable attitude. Very bad experience.
Vince showed up on time to provide an estimate, it was 50% less than the previous estimate that we received. We needed some flexibility with an installation date due to other contractors being onsite and repair/replacement work that we needed to perform to the crown moulding behind the gutters. We moved the start date twice and they were able to support the changes and were really great about it. They called and confirmed the appointment on Friday for a Monday start. The installers showed up on time. They installed the gutters per the estimate and there weren't any hidden charges in the end.
The installers didn't use gutter cement on the front gutters so they leaked in the first rain we had. It took several phone calls but this was finally resolved. They left debris from the removal of the old gutters and the installation of the downspouts on the lawn, which we have been cleaning up as we go.
"Member, I apologize for the inconvience. This is not how we run our company. The scheduling for the follow up estimate was a miscommunication on my part. As you can see all of the people who we've actually done work for have been pleased with our price, integrity as a company and our workmanship. Once again I apologize for the misunderstanding and I am more than willing to do whatever it takes to rectify this situation. Sincerely, Vince."
