As usual, they were honest and let me know I did not need assistance (in this case). They are very good at what they do (which is not everything...they won't do wheel alignments or exhaust systems). But, for normal car maintenance, they are as good is it gets and they get their work done in a very timely manner. Best of all, they are HONEST...You are not going to be charged for stuff you don't need or can have done later.
The only drawback? They did not love seeing me coming again with my sometimes troubled car (which has a few issues like all cars do, but is hardly a huge problem for a mechanic...or even someone like me that has no great car repair background).
I recommend them. But, I'd space out the visits.

I called, made an appt. within 2 days of my call. I dropped car off. Staff was pleasant, courteous and thorough. They called mid-day regarding brakes that did not pass inspection. Gave me a price. Finished the job in time for pick-up before 5PM.

It was an excellent experience. They diagnosed my problem, and had it fixed and back to me by the end of the day.

Any place that WON'T quote you for an oil change and then charges you
FIFTY dollars for it can't be all that honest of a mechanic. (I was expecting around the usual $30!)
The only thing they would quote me on was changing the car brakes, which
was really expensive. We decided to give them a try though since they had such
stellar reviews and had the oil changed, front brakes changed, and some
warning lights checked. $350+ spent and 2-3 weeks later, our brakes are
squeaking like crazy and our oil is empty in the car. This time we took
it to the dealer who informed us that there was an oil valve leak which
should've been noticed when the oil was changed by them.

I was a new PA resident with a brand new car that I bough in Jersey, so went to Freds for an inspection sticker. First stopped by, they told me to come back when I had an appointment--so I came back the next day. Several hours later I was called to pick up my car, which obviously passed inspection (being one week old). When they showed me the bill of $100, I thought it was ridiculous, but figured that PA inspection must just be expensive so I paid.
A year later, I decided to get my inspection elsewhere, having had a weird gut feeling about Freds--and found the cost at another neighborhood shop was only $65 (which I still think is expsensive)--and that place did the inspection in 30 minutes while I waited without any appointment.
If they charge 35% more for a simple inspection on a brand new car, I certainly wouldn't trust them to do any actual work.

It went as the story goes with my old, tired car; it got expensive. I needed to get my inspection done within 10 days from getting my PA registration done. I was nervous that they wouldn't be able to get it in to look at it before I went out of state for a week. Luckily they had some time at the end of the week. I took my car in that Thursday morning and they called me with a diagnosis by noon. They needed to order a couple parts, which at another place were going to take a week to get in. They could get the parts that afternoon! Unfortunately, my brakes weren't going to pass inspection the way they were, so I had to get new brake shoes. There was rust around one wheel well that inhibited them from getting one of the brake shoes on, so they called me back to see if they could keep it over night to see if some oil would do the trick. Other places would've probably told me I needed to replace something else to get that on. I have been taken advantage of so many other places, I am so glad I can trust in a shop locally. They were able to do my belt that was bad for half the price that I got it quoted for at another shop!

I have had a lot of work done over the past few years. These guys are honest- they don't recommend work you don't need- and they stand by their work too! Good shop!

I like them. I would use their services in the future too.

They are fine. They are convenient because they are located only a few blocks from my house. I can drop off the car and walk home. I have been taking my car to them for two years.

On the phone they gave a price estimate. I made an appointment, brought the car in, and they completed the work that same day. I am very satisfied with my experience with this company and would use them again.

A lot of people in my community use them. They have great customer service and are very professional.

They don't pull any funny stuff. If you take your car in for an oil change they don't call back and say you need a new motor. They are punctual with the drop off and pick up times for your appointments. It will be done when they say it will be done. They're reasonably priced, I know I can get some things done cheaper at other places, but I can't guarantee it will be done as well. They haven't ever told me I needed brakes, which other places always seem to do. I know other people who take their cars there too, and almost all of them seem to be happy with Fred's too.

Car DIED on Saturday. I was able to start it again and it limped to Fred's on Monday morning. They (without an appointment) quickly diagnosed and gave me an estimate on the car, and then performed the work by 2:30 on Monday. Overall, it was a great experience! They were very nice and quite helpful. Phil is da bomb!

For the first visit, I was 100% sure that I needed new brakes because I heard lots of squeaking. Fred's told me that I still had some life left on the pads. I appreciate that he said I could wait to get the full life out of my current pads, when I think most mechanics would have told me to get new ones to get the money right then. I also asked about my rotors, because I was told during a previous inspection that mine were rusty and I would need new ones the next time I got pads. Fred's told me my rotors were fine, also saving me money for when I do need the pads replaced. Best believe I will be having that done at Fred's The second visit, for the electrical problem, the connections to the battery just needed to be cleaned and tightened. My only very small complaint about Fred's is that both times I dropped my car off first thing in the morning and I did not hear back from them until the late afternoon. On my second visit, I had to call them because it was about a half hour before they closed and I did not hear from them yet and when I did call, they said my car was done.

Every single time we go to Fred's they meet or exceed our expectations. They are completely HONEST about what they can do when and for how much, including options for keeping prices down (buying rebuilt parts, etc.). I have had countless recommendations for auto mechanics in my life and Fred's is the ONLY place that has truly lived up to the hype. We moved 15 miles further away and we still drive back to Fred's to get our cars worked on there.

The people here are very honest and if I need a quick fix to a problem, they will just do it at no charge for me. I have been using this place for about a year and I have always been happy. They only deal with foreign vehicles. When they need to, it is no problem for them to refer me elsewhere.

We took our car in in the morning and it was done by early afternoon. Fred's is always thorough, informative, and efficient. I never feel they try to pressure me into getting unnecessary work done. It's probably because of routine maintenance by them that our 12-year-old car is still working great.

Booked in for routine major service, fixing oil leak, and other repairs. Although Fred's could have fixed the leak, they not only advised us to go elsewhere for a cheaper quicker repair, but also drove us between home and the place they recommended to drop off and pickup the car (ended up being about 30% cheaper than quoted by Volvo dealer). Fred's did the rest of the service, as they always do, quickly, to a high standard, and at a great price. It is always a pleasure to deal with Fred's, they are really good people and set a whole new standard for service.
