$6,500
His labor price was fair but overspent by triple his estimate to us for materials. He also charged us a $200 'permit fee' which was his charge to us for going and getting the permit he needed for the job (this was in addition to the actual permit fee of $75).
His work passed rough inspection but he did not follow the plans provided and he improperly installed the microwave connection and two kitchen outlets. He also was told to install light fixtures in the center of walls and rooms but did not do so in all cases. He also neglected to rewire the basement and when we asked about it he wanted more money, dspite our original request to rewire the whole house. We did pay him the extra fee he asked for to rewire the basement to which he did with the exception of using an old junction box for a new outlet he ran. We asked him to fix this last item, to which he refused.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: When we hired DV Electric we made it clear that it was 50% upfront and balance when work was complete. An altercation started when it came to us paying his final balance. Work was not complete, pending incorrect items noted above and he left me a voicemail saying that if we didn't pay him within an hour then he would come into our home and cut every wire he installed. We called the police and a police report was filed for his threatening voicemail and the fact that he had stolen keys from our home.
The project took 5 weeks because he decide to go on vacation for a week and a half and didn't tell us until the day before he left.
I would not hire DV Electric again and I would never recommend him for any type of project. If you have read the above, you know exactly why.
