I have used Avalon in King of Prussia for several projects. Some have gone well and two have gone terribly wrong. The most recent project was my powder room. The installer gave me a window of 9-11 a.m. as a time of arrival. By noon, I had heard from no one. I called and finally someone showed up at about 2 p.m. with no call to advise me of his lateness. The installer removed the old floor and made a mess of my kitchen floor before deciding to put down a cover on the floor. Then, asked me if he should install a sliver of a tile in one area. I asked him why not just cut a full tile in half, he seemed to agree that was a good idea. I'm a lawyer and not a tile installer. Why am I telling a tile installer how to do his job. When I called Avalon and asked that the install manager come to check on the installer's work, I was ignored. Then, I asked to see the transition before it was installed. I asked that a photo of the choices be sent to me. Again, I was ignored. The installer just installed one of the transitions. When I called to question this, no explanation was provided. The install manager was argumentative and unhelpful. I am not going back to them. Too many mistakes and no accountability.

I had an issue with Avalon Flooring.  They laid down the wrong transitional pieces, I wanted rubber and they laid down metal.

The salesman was great. He was very responsive and helpful. He took extra time with me to make sure I would be satisfied with my purchase. He ensured that I would receive a sale price for the carpeting.

Here's what went wrong and right:
- At the store/showroom (which had a good range of carpeting to choose from), we had to track someone down to get help.
- Once we got someone to help (Tim), the ordering and scheduling went smoothly.
- The guy who came out to take measurements and show us some samples (Jamie) was on time and helpful.
- It took over 4 weeks for the carpet to come in (only a little longer than expected)
- the three guys who came to install the carpet did a horrible job: carpet was not centered, it was hacked off at the top instead of folded, and, to top it off, they destroyed/removed the original cove moldings (under the stair nosing) and damaged/lost some additional molding pieces from the side of the staircase.
- Avalon responded reasonably quickly and sent Jamie out to assess the job/damage.
- carpet was reordered and only came in after we placed several calls (after waiting for about a month).
- a carpenter was sent out to replace the molding and he did a reasonably good job.
- the two installers (different guys than before) did a much better job, but they did not bother to move the padding installed by the first crew., so the carpeting still looks a little off due to the padding being off center. We gave up at that point.
Bottom line: If you go with Avalon, you will need to keep a very close eye on their installers.

It went very well. Avalon has a very good selection of quality Ceramic tile at good prices. They also have a good selection of and quot;in stockand quot; tile.
One problem I have is with their sales representative system. It seems like the first time you walk into their store you may talk to one sales associate, and then every other time you walk into their store after that only that particular sales associate will talk to you. The other sales associates will be sitting around doing nothing and still they will tell you that you have to wait for your particular sales associate to help you even if he wont be available for an hour. It was particularly frustrating when we were going into the store with our small child and we knew exactly what we wanted but couldn't get someone to sell it to us until we were fed up waiting and about to walk out of the store.
All the same it was hard to find the tile we wanted at the price we were interested in paying in other stores.

I originally visited the Deptford store, but my contractor knew someone in Philadelphia store. Their prices are much higher than Home Depot, almost double. Even with their Aug. sale, they were still higher. However, I went with them, because I could easily see the sample and hold it, whereas in Home Depot, I could not. At HD, they had a 1and quot; swatch of tile on a display about 10 feet high, and you had to judge your color from that. Also, Avalon had great customer service and many people to help you. We told them the square footage and they ordered the tile, which was lovely. When it was all said and done, I was left with almost 2 full boxes of tile left over, 1 box was totally unopened. When I called the store, they stated that I could not return it as it was a and quot;special order.and quot; My argument is YOU ordered the amount of tile and you ordered way too much for me. Shouldn't your staff be better skilled at calculating the accurate amount of tile based on the square footage I gave them? Bottom line, the Home Depot would have been cheaper, it was probably the exact same tile and color, and they would have given me NO trouble with returning an unopened box.

They were fine. Probably the best showroom of anyone around, very good. I would do business with them but in this case the price was too high. They wanted to do something a little different then what we wanted to do which is why the price was higher.

Avalon does a great job.
The installers were the same two fellows who did the wall to wall in the rest of the house.
They were neat, arrived on time and made ever effort to see that we were pleased with their service.
Everything was cleaned up and the refuse carted away at the end of the project.

The salespeople weren't too pushy, but not too helpful either. We decided on the most used tile brand and the third most popular color according to the salesman. We sign on the dotted line and all seems well. We wait 3.5 weeks to get our tiles after being told it would only be 2 weeks. I call them for the umpteenth time after 3.5 weeks, and they say, and quot;Oh, they've been sitting here for a few days, you should come get them!and quot; We didn't end up using a good portion of the tiles and wanted to return them. We were told we could not return them because they were and quot;special orderand quot;. Sure enough, it says as much on the receipt. We specifically purchased the most popular tile, so that we could return extras. Buyer beware, as Avalon Tile will mark EVERYTHING on your order as and quot;special orderand quot;, just so they don't have to deal with you. I will never use this vendor again.

Went there on the recommendation of our kitchen contractor to choose backsplash and flooring tiles. The sales person was very accommodating, answered all our questions, showed us a variety of materials that were suitable for our job and was very professional. The tile we got was beautiful and looks stunning in our kitchen and foyer.

Avalon does not stand by their products, or their customers.
I purchased hundreds of dollars of tile, grout, and other supplies from Avalon for a new home construction. Many of these products worked out fine, but there were two areas in the home where the TEC grout tuned out severely discolored. I brought this to the attention of my Avalon salesperson, and he refused any responsibility.
Initially, without even looking at the problem, the Avalon salesperson blamed the contractor for not mixing the grout correctly. When I pointed out that the tile contractors are experienced and were careful to mix the grout according to manufacturer specifications, he said I could take up the issue with the grout manufacturer, TEC, but he warned that TEC was unlikely to help.
Avalon sells TEC grout products exclusively in their 14 stores, and so you might expect them to be more concerned with the quality of the product.
I did not ask Avalon to pay for the full damages (which will be very costly). All I asked is that they listen to my problem and help advise on a reasonable solution. Perhaps I have become spoiled by online retailers such as Zappos and Amazon, which bend over backwards to make the customer happy, but it disappointing to see that Avalon apparently does not care about customer satisfaction at all.

I had purchased the flooring from them only a year before and so the repair didn't cost me anything because it had a 10 year warranty. They were very quick to get someone out when I called them about the issue. The guy they sent out was very nice and did a good job on the repair. He left me their card in case I should have any other problems with the flooring and need them again. They also left me some spare flooring materials.

I picked Ararat from Angie's List and stopped in their store. Bill and his wife (owners) were great, helping me look at the many samples they had in their showroom and answering questions. Bill then set up an appointment to come and measure my rooms and discuss what I needed. Then I selected all my flooring and waited for it to be delivered (approx. 2 wks.) I put down 1/3 of the cost when I placed the order. When the flooring arrived, I set up an appt. for installation. Since I was having carpeting and vinyl, two different installers were scheduled. The crew worked with me since I have a busy schedule and needed them to come only on certain days. The floors were put in and were beautiful. The one room needed to be "restretched" later but that was completed and looks good. The price was just right.

We dealt with Jonathan Maiellano at Avalon Carpets; he was very professional and provided a balanced view regarding the selection process in choosing the quality laminate flooring. The estimator came to our house the same day and the estimate was provided without any pressure to sign the contract. When we agreed to the price and terms, it took approximately two weeks. In the meantime Jonathan was readily available to answer all questions via email or phone and we had new floors installed in four bedrooms in one day. The installers were very professional and started the job on-time. So far so good and we love the floors.
