Advanced Roofing Systems

The guys showed up on time as expected. They went about their roofing business and were friendly enough. Part of the way through it, the guy told me that my copper outlet box (the part on the roof where water drains into the downspout) was in good shape and didn't need to be replaced. So, they wouldn't be doing that, yet I was still paying the same price that included the outlet box replacement with no explanation offered. At the end of the work, he brought me up to the roof to check out what they did. Everything looked fine enough, but I'm no expert. That's why I hired them to replace the roof. Anyway, part of the deal is that they guaranteed the roof for 10 years provided they come back and perform maintenance every 5 years. Okay, so I shouldn't have to call them again until 2015. Fine. So, in March of 2013, we decided to have our upstairs bathroom remodeled. The contractor I hired took it down to the studs and the roof above was exposed. The old ceiling had been plaster and it was in very bad shape to begin with, so we hadn't noticed any leaks from the roof. However, once the plaster was gone and there was nothing between the bathroom and the roof, the first rain storm revealed that the roof was leaking in several places. The contractor I hired to do the bathroom went on the roof and found and patched the source of the leaks we were aware of. He offered to do it for free, so I figured no need to call the roofers back in as that would slow up the bathroom remodel. Anyway, my contractor put up all new sheetrock on the walls and ceilings. Only a few weeks go by and there's another heavy rain. At that point two new leaks manifest. Now the new sheetrock is ruined. At this point, I called Advanced Roofing Systems to come out and fix the problem. I get an automated voicemail prompt, so I leave a message. Three weeks go by and nothing. In the meantime, I hired another roofing contractor to come do an inspection on the roof. What he found was pretty disheartening. The rubber they put down is actually coming up in places and there wasn't enough mud on in the first place, so the fabric threading of the rubber is exposed in a lot of places. He showed me that they did not caulk around the old drainage outlet box, so that's where one of the leaks is. He also showed me tons of photos where the rubber is cracked and there are lots of holes where water can get in. Basically, Advanced Roofing Systems did a very poor job and they will not return my calls to come and deal with it even though the work is supposedly guaranteed. Even if they're supposed to come maintain the roof every 5 years, what good does that do me if it's falling apart in 3? Bad experience. Would not use them again.
