This is the third project I have used 3rd Generation for, and they consistently do a great job. Great workers, high quality, reasonable prices, flexible, and experienced. Timelines are always difficult to estimate and adjustments are needed, but with good communication there are few surprises. Melvin kept me informed, revised the timeline as needed, and the extra time was worth it. The complete remodel of my bathroom is perfect and beautiful. Highly recommend this contractor.

I would not refer this company to anyone. They left me with a bulging brick work and left work undone and now I have to hire others to complete.
Response from 3rd Generation Design & Construction, LLC

"The work scope that we were contracted for was completed. Miss Lewis wanted us to do additional work that was not included in the work scope that we agreed upon and in the contract that she signed. We make a practice of going the extra mile to keep make our customers happy but she was clearly trying to get us to do a lot of extra work without being paid for it. 90% of our work comes from repeat customers."

Not good. The guy talked more than he worked.
Response from 3rd Generation Design & Construction, LLC

"I think this guy mistakenly posted a comment for the wrong contractor. I don't know who he is and we have never done any work for a John H."

This was a big job, probably too big of a job for Melvin and his crew since they couldn't or wouldn't finish it. Not only did he not finish the job, but his crew caused a lot of damage to our home. They destroyed our dishwasher but gave us a (less than replacement cost) credit for it. They dented our refrigerator, dented our back door, stained our rugs, damaged our hard wood floor, chipped our counter top and left our backyard a mess with paint and concrete all over the patio and splatter on the siding. They punched a hole in our bedroom wall (which they repaired) they cracked a wall in our hallway (which they repaired). They even damaged our neighbors' backyard after the neighbors graciously let us use it to do work on our shared wall. We entrusted Melvin with a key to our home. He made copies and handed them out to multiple employees without telling us. When the dishwasher was replaced it took his crew three visits PLUS a call to our own plumber to get the dishwasher installed and running. The main job was to add a powder room to the first floor which included the installation of a Skylight. The skylight leaked during a heavy rain and caused significant damage to the newly painted room. They tried to repair and repaint it, but did a terrible job. When we insisted they try again, he refused. Working with Melvin has been very stressful. He has a tendency to be extremely defensive, argumentative, unorganized and untimely. Towards the end of the project he tried to extort the remainder of the retainage from us by telling us he would not finish the punchlist work until retainage was released. Retainage isn’t released until the work is 100% complete per HIS OWN contract. When we made that very clear to him, we never heard from him again and he walked away the job without finishing and without his final retainage payment. We were forced to hire another contractor to finish the job. Also, the job was supposed to be done in 8 weeks. Yes, there were some additions which extended the length of the project. But, they took a total of 23 weeks AND it's still not done. Beware!! UPDATED: 9/21/2017 This is the exact response that I would expect from Melvin. He would say anything to point the blame away from himself, which I have noticed, is very typical of him. We refused to make final payment until all of the work was 100% complete, per his contract terms. If anyone should “honor the payment terms of the contract” it should most definitely be the person who produced the contract in the first place. He refused to complete contract work and wanted us to pay him 100% before the job was complete? Does that sound like something an upstanding professional would do? This project started in June, 2016. It carried over to a year later because of zoning permit issues. I have the text from him that I will quote from 11/18/16 "At this point I wouldn't be able to start your project for at least 2 weeks. If you want to wait till the spring to start I'm com
Response from 3rd Generation Design & Construction, LLC

"This project resulted in a beautiful new Powder room addition, which the client loved, up until it was time to pay the final invoice. When she began producing multiple punch lists containing items that had been resolved weeks prior, I knew she was just trying to get out of paying the full amount of the final bill. We did a great job as the photos on my website will prove. There are always punch list items at the end of almost every project. We have no problem addressing any completion items, but you have to honor the payment terms of the contract. Also, she forgot to mention that it was at her insistence that we shut the job down for the winter. I would never work for this woman again."

Very capable contractors with a lot of knowledge. I would like to use them again. The scheduling and timeline was a disaster in my opinion. There were some mistakes made but the willingness to correct them is there. My advice is use 3rd generation but be very clear about the anticipated timeline.

Work was competent and confident. I realized I wanted more/different features along the way, and Contractor was abel to refine his work as we went. My only concern, regarding value for the money, is that the Contractor was using an assistant that they were visibly frustrated with, who obviously slowed them down (they even mentioned it), and this undermines their cost/time advantage.
