Shan-Gri-La Contractors

I've now done 5 projects over several years with Chip at Shan-gri-la and can't speak enough about him as a person as well as a business. They do high quality work and have been great to work with. Overall projects we've done: 1) patio and landscaping with boulders, as well as exterior house lighting 2) outdoor bar install with appliances installed 3) Pergola installation 4) Installation of rock (EP Henry) veneer to exterior concrete walls 5) patio extension for hot tub with additional landscaping Would strongly encourage everyone to call Shan-gri-la for their landscaping/hardscaping needs.

Chip came out and gave us a bid for the job. He was friendly and professional. We agreed on a price and a crew of three came out to do the work. Chip was there when the work started. The job went well. I loved the new pavers and the crew cleaned up after themselves. I was very pleased with the work and would recommend them.

We could not be more pleased with Shan-gri-la. Chip Bunch proved he is a business owner who cares. He gave a fair estimate, explained the project well, and actually came out to get his crew started and make sure we were good with everything. The crew did better than a great job...they were craftsmen. Can't say enough good about Chip and his workers!

For 2 years I had been looking for a contractor to extend my small patio area. It was my lucky day when Chip Bunch, owner of Shan-Gri-La contractors agreed to take on the project. Two days after he saw my garden, I had a detailed proposal. He worked with me on both price and timing. Chip was very patient with some of my unrealistic ideas. He explained the problems and increased costs. It would have been very easy for him to take advantage of my naive enthusiasm, but he didn't. He was always honest, professional and delivered what he said he would. The project was scheduled for the 3rd week in July, but in June I requested it to be COMPLETED by the 2nd week of July. Chip and his crew were able to begin on June 27th. He introduced me to three men who had all been with him for ten years. They immediately got to work and everything was done with precision and pride. They were here to work not chatter. It was fascinating to watch them because it so unusual. The evening that they finished I no longer had an overgrown muddy backyard. Instead I was sitting in my clean, crisp garden feeling like I was in Shan-Gri-La. I can't say enough about Chip and his crew. I am just thrilled.

Excellent. We hired Chip based on past work he had done for us. The landscaping turned out great, completely turned our backyard around. Words cannot describe the patio stone restoration. It looks brand new. Chip made the recommendation to do the work and we were hesitant at first. I am so glad we did.

Shan-gri-La did a fantastic job on our patio. We had a number of uneven stones after 16 years of wear and tear and a wall that was leaning. They repaired all of the stones and the wall. They also cleaned and sealed the patio, and it looks brand new. They were responsive, punctual, and very nice and professional. Other companies we contacted just wanted to rip out our existing patio and replace with a new one. We are thrilled that Shan-gri-La could restore it to such beauty and make it safe so that everyone can walk on it without fear of tripping! We highly recommend Shan-gri-La contractors for your patio work!!

My husband and I found Chip to be extremely honest and knowledgeable. He responded immediately to any questions or concerns. His team were the hardest working men I've ever seen! They're quiet, clean and barely stop for 10 or more hours a day. Most important, they know what they're doing. And, they don't cut corners; they do it right the first time. My only regret is that I didn't use Shan-Gri-La to design and build originally! We had paid a lot to the wrong contractor for a paver patio that failed terribly. We couldn't be happier now with the job that Chip and his team did!

Fantastic! Chip and his crew were very professional and communication was excellent from start to finish. The job was completed on schedule and they worked full days. They cleaned up everything at the end of each work day. At the completion of the job you could hardly tell they were here, except for the beautiful patio left behind! They even placed grass seed around the perimeter of the patio. We highly recommend them and couldn't be happier with our decision to use Shan-Gri-La.

Shan-Gri-La and his sub-contractor, John Lanzetta, did an outstanding job on all of our projects. From the very beginning Chip, the owner, was very professional, courteous and reliable. He always did what he said, communicated clearly and quickly. There were never any surprises. He was attentive to detail and made constructive suggestions which were blended seamlessly with our wishes. We were very impressed with the extent of the measures they took to ensure quality workmanship, for example, the level of excavation and preparation to ensure the integrity of the wraparound flagstone patio and the proper functioning of the surrounding drain. They took precautions to prevent damage to the property, such as covering the lawn to protect it from their heavy equipment. Crew members were incredibly hard-working, even in extreme heat. Chip and his employees went above and beyond to deliver finished products that exceeded our expectations, on time or early, and within budget. We would highly recommend Shan-Gri-La to anyone!

no problems, no complaints, very professional

Everything went smoothly.  I thought their price was good, they were on time and responsive and the newly planted grass has grown in very nicely.  My neighbor and I are very pleased with the results.

We had landscaping timbers lining a parking space by our garage which were rotting out.  We wanted to replace the wood with something more permanent.  Chip suggested using  large rocks as a replacement as  we live in the woods with lots of rocks on our property, so more rocks would look like they belonged in the space.   Due to a scheduling change they came a week or two earlier than expected, which was fine with us.  Three men arrived on time with all the equipment and supplies needed to complete the work in one day.  They did an excellent job selecting the right rocks for the job and placing the rocks in the space.  We were able to give input as the job progressed to ensure the completed work would meet our expectations.  The workers worked well together, which gave us a feeling of confidence that the job would be completed properly. 
We are very happy with the completed job and will definitely hire this company again for our future landscaping needs.

We were extremely pleased with Shan-Gri-La, and specifically Chip.  I was appreciated Chip's professionalism right at the outset when he was running 10 minutes late to his initial consultation with us.  He texted me ahead of time and let me know he would be running late - a consideration that not enough individuals do (I am a stickler for punctuality).
After meeting with us during the initial consultation, we met with him at the SGL office a week later in order to discuss and review the design as well as discuss pricing for various potential phases of the project.  While there was certainly an upsell, he had great ideas and provided us with potential things that we may want to do currently as well as in the future - his design accommodated other items that we didn't necessarily request, but could do at a later point in time.  Ultimately, we decided to incorporate a few of his additional suggestion into phase 1 (i.e., lighting), and were quite pleased with how they turned out.
Due to the busy late-summer schedule, we needed to wait a month and a half before we could get on his calendar for the ultimate build. He kept us well informed of changes in the process and when we ultimately determined a date, he was on time.  Throughout each day of the build (4 days), he kept me informed of the current status as well as the plans for the next day.  He was always responsive either via text, a quick call, or email - something we all appreciate these days in contractors (I prefer over communication rather than under).
As for the price, the total bill was exactly in line with the estimate.  We compared to one other contractor who we have used for a few other items, and the price was in-line.  What swayed our decision to Chip and SGL was 1) the detail outlined in the proposal was impressive, 2) our meeting with him in person and discussing the ultimate plan over several phases, and 3) his professionalism at the outset.  I plan to use him in the future.

I can't say enough great things about our experience. From professionalism to attention to detail these guys were great. They really listened to what we were looking for and worked with us to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. Everything from the way we wanted things to look to the quality of the products used and the workmanship. They were also great about be mindful of our budget. I would highly recommend Shan-Gri-La!

We chose Shan-Gri-La Contractors because of their reputation and quality of work.  My wife and I reviewed their website and saw all of the work that they had done previously and were blown away by how they could transform a plain back yard into a stunning, well thought out area for dining & entertaining. 
Chip (owner) arrived neatly dressed and on time, ready to do business.  I mention that because right away you feel comfortable with him and know that he is there to make sure your experience with SGL Contractors is enjoyable one.  He started out wanting to know our overall vision of the backyard so that he could layout & design a plan that could accommodate any future projects and not add cost later.  
After understanding the entire project, Chip provided value input and asked great questions that we would have never thought about until the project was done.  He devised a great plan and turned the estimate and schematic around in a timely manner.  He was able to understand exactly the style, shape and color schemes that we wanted and was able show that in his schematic.  Chip is open and receptive to changes but also did not let us make a costly mistake if he saw something he thought was a wrong move. We appreciated his open and honest dialogue.
After we signed off on the plans, the crew started on the date as planned and showed up on time.  His manager and crew were very neat and organized and worked hard all day long.  They took pride in their work and stayed on schedule the whole time.  They took time to make sure the yard was cleaned up and organized before they left for the day.  
When the project was done, my family and I couldn't believe how they turned the idea on paper into a reality.  The finished work was better than we could imagine and are looking forward to using our new outdoor kitchen and fireplace very soon.  Not to mention the increased value that a project such as this adds to our home.

We were extremely happy with the work that Shan-Gri-La did for us.   Chip called us back to schedule an appointment the same day I left a message.   He came on time, viewed the work we wanted done, measured everything and answered all our questions.  He was very easy to talk to.   We received a quote that explained all the work, in detail, within a day or two.   The day the job started, Chip came and introduced us to his foreman, Shawn, and went over everything.  Shawn and his crew were very skilled and professional.  Half way through the job, I decided to add a different brick border and it was no problem, even though Shawn had to go out and get more brick.   His crew continued to work on other areas while he was gone.  The job was done in two days.   They left our property spotless.   We highly recommend them.
