We have a house that was built in the 1950s. The main bathroom was completely tiled, walls and ceiling in green, floor in pink and green, with a black tile border around the upper walls. The toilet and the tub were pink, and the shower doors had swans on them. The lighting was flourescent. In addition, the bathroom contained one outlet underneath one of the flourescent lights that was tied into the main light switch. However, in spite of the 1950s theme, the bathroom was very well constructed. Our purpose in renovating this room was to update this bathroom and make it more energy efficient while maintaining the high quality of construction with which it had originally been built. In addition, we wanted a very simple, traditional style of durable quality so we would only have to renovate this bathroom one time in our lifetime. We liked Marino Construction Co from the very first meeting we had with the designer and the contractor. They came to our house to see the bathroom and take some measurements, etc. The next step was a meeting with the designer so she could understand what we were looking for. A few more meetings followed that one, with proposal/estimate reviews, materials selection discussions, etc. We had never done such an extensive project so we needed a lot of help selecting things like tiles, counter tops, vanity, fixtures, etc. The designer was wonderful about explaining different options and referring us to others, for example at tile suppliers and plumbing suppliers, who could provide us with even more information. In addition, the designer was always available to help us sift through all the options, answer our questions, and provide expert advice on the quality, durability, and functionality of all that we considered. We took quite a while to make our final decisions but everyone at Marino was extremely patient and accommodating to us throughout the entire process. Once we had made all the decisions and received the final estimate, Marino Construction was even able to accommodate our schedules. We had a specific time in mind regarding the start of this project and, despite the length of time it took us to make all of our final decisions, the contractor was able to begin on the exact date we had hoped for.
We were most worried about the demolition phase since everything was coming out. But it ran very smoothly and was completed in two days! The project was planned for 5-6 weeks and in that time, in addition to the contractor, we have had a plumber, electrician, carpenter, painter and tile installers working in our home. All have kept us updated on what was going on each day and how the project was progressing. In addition, the designer has checked in on the project regularly and has met with us and others on the project to review what was to happen next and to see if we were still happy with the original design, to explore additional options, and to see if we wanted to make any changes. It has been extremely reassuring to us to be included in the progress of the project at every stage. Every person who has worked on this project has been very professional and has paid extreme attention to detail. And the craftsmanship has been excellent! All the woodwork is solid wood, all the piping copper, the tile and grout work is beautiful, the added electrical work so much more efficient, all the painting and staining perfectly done. We are only a few days away from completion and this bathroom is already the most beautiful room we have ever owned!
Also important to us has been the kindness extended to us, our family, and our pets by everyone on this project. We truly feel like we have gotten to know some wonderful people through this renovation and look forward to having them in our home again. We will absolutely be doing business with Marino Construction Co again.
