Description of Work: We only had Disservice Electric for their "high-speed" cable internet, not cable TV. The only other options in the town where I live for internet is satellite or your cell-phone provider, can't even get DSL from the phone company. I think SE has a legal monopoly set up with the municipality. Anyway, their customer service department is only open during the day M-F, no nights or weekends. Good luck if you have a problem then. For a tech company they are incredibly backward. To set up service we had to get a service agreement sent to us (at least they could email that), print it out, sign it, and either mail, fax, or drop it off at their office which is over 30 minutes away by interstate. Lucky we had access to a fax machine. When everything got processed the service tech was pleasant enough, but the "high-speed" internet was laughingly slow. I did side-by-side speed tests with my phone and my phone was nearly 10X faster. Service was about 2.9MB/sec. Horrible. Constantly needed to reset the modem as it would just drop out randomly. When we needed to move (only two blocks away) we called two weeks before the end of January. They said they could move the service on the 18th of February. That's over a month from when we called and over two weeks being in the new house with no internet. We said forget it, just cancel our service on the 30th, we'll get satellite or something, the extra cost worth the aggravation. Returned the modem within 7 days as per the service agreement. Then we get a notice that they charged our account for service in February! Called and they said they would send us a refund, still haven't seen it. Then get another notice that we will get charged for March! Called again and they said they saw that we cancelled service and returned the equipment and they will take care of it. Still waiting to see if they kept their word. Ended up getting internet access through Sprint 4G LTE. Much, much faster and dealing with their customer service was a breeze. Service Electric was the first cable company in the US, but the only way they keep any business now is through exclusive franchise agreements in the areas they serve. They have absolutely no incentive to do anything better. i don't know anyone who would actively CHOOSE to do business with this company.

Description of Work: Replaced a modem, checked their feed and, checked the system. | |Overall, they were extremely professional, and bent over backwards to assist us. | |The only complaint is that, the bandwidth is definitely throttled; my DSL was faster. | |The downtime is more than one would expect. Being they monopolize the area, at the moment; there is no competition for them. | | |Thank you

For Cable service: At $60/month, the cable is what you expect. Overpriced, but Service Electric holds a monopoly on cable televison service in the Sunbury area. The cable pack is average, nothing exceptional, though it was extremely reliable. We recently had the cable TV service cut, as it was far too expensive. For the High Speed Internet service: At $45/month, the Platinum High Speed Internet service itself is very reliable and fast. I have had very few problems with service outages. The only problem I have with their service, and the reason for the low overall quality rating, is their monthly broadband usage caps. They are ridiculously low, and make streaming video a headache. The Bandwidth Cap limits you to 100 GB of download traffic during peak usage hours (5 pm to 1am), with unlimited usage during off hours. This service is adequate for someone living alone, but for a house with multiple TVs and children watching TV, it's impossible. Forget about streaming HD, you will quickly eat up your bandwidth unless you time your watching for offpeak hours. Forget multiple set-top boxes, as you will use appx 50 GB of peak hour bandwidth for normal usage of standard- or low-quality streaming. Service Electric needs to raise their bandwidth caps to a more reasonable level. They only have two levels of cable-modem-only service available. If you want more than their Platinum service, which is very reasonable except for the bandwidth caps, they will push you over to their Wideband 50 (50 Mbit down/ 5 Mbit up) service, which is $110 and has a bandwidth download cap of 200 GB. There's no happy medium. Their Platinum Plus plan (20 Mbit down/5 Mbit up, same ridiculous 100 GB cap) isn't available for Internet-only. If I had an option, I wouldn't go with Service Electric for broadband unless they raised their bandwidth cap, but there is no option in the area. I must say their cable television service is decent, and the broadband is reliable and fast with no serious connection issues. They need to raise the bandwidth caps. They're relying on the monopoly, since there is no Verizon FiOS or even DSL available in Northumberland at my address. Once there's more competition, things might change.
Description of Work: We subscribed to the Service Electric SmartPack Plus ($103/month), which included their ValuePack Plus digital cable services and their Platinum High Speed Internet cable modem service at 12 Mbit down/ 1 Mbit up.
