The owner of the company came to give me the quote. He would have also been the man leading the team on the job. T.S., as they are not a huge operation, was the only company to send a person who would actually do the work. This, to me, reflected very well on them. Sure, they have to do it this way because they are not large. But it is a tremendous plus to get a quote from the man who would also perform the labor.
Tom, the owner, was clearly knowledgeable. He discussed options with me that nobody else even considered, and did a good job explaining why they mattered. He was the only person that gave serious thought to the-- literal-- nuts and bolts of my specific job. He didn't have pretty folders for his marketing materials, and didn't make a show of putting on latex booties before entering the home. He did not have a pressed polo, as he clearly came from an actual job. So if those things matter to you, you will be disappointed.
But he did obviously know what he was doing, was punctual, followed up promptly with answers to all my questions, and was able to speak frankly and collaboratively about the job. The only reason I didn't give him the work was he had limiting financing options, a matter he says he is remediating as we speak.
I would not hesitate to give him work in the future, and I would not have hesitated to give him THIS job if I had 10k dollars cash burning a hole in my pocket.
