Job was strung out for 6 months after initial 30% deposit was made. Over 6 months, getting the project completed required numerous calls, and a few pieces had to be re-done.  I kept being told they were "backed up and had furniture from  numerous customers that had not been finished in over a year".   Owner never mentioned that when  he took on my project, and I had been a long time customer!.  When a few items were finally finished and delivered and upon inspection (after payment was made), owner gave "his word" to correct items not completed per agreement. After 6 months  there was a balance of $770. However, AGAINST that balance there was an issue of restitution of my property lost at his shop which flooded in the Sept 2021 storm.. It was 7 months until the owner  finally made time to begin correcting items not properly completed (BUT paid IN FULL at time of delivery). Before all remaining issues were resolved and upon delivery of an expensive piece that had been picked up to fix (7 months after having been paid in full), owner  demanded payment in full and CASH ONLY! Although he not upheld his word and satisfactorily finished the project nor reimbursed me for lost items,  he demanded cash AND BEFORE he would allow his men to offload my item for me to examine.  I was forced to pay rather than having him drive away with my furniture worth thousands.. Neighbors witnessed this playing out and gathered the cash to enable me to get my furniture. Owner then claimed I shorted him $10 and refused to offload the item. I re-counted for him in front of his workers and the full amount was there! No aplology at all. He has TOTALLY ignored/refused to discuss restitution of items lost in the flood and still has unresolved which he promised to fix 7 months ago on "his honor". But the man has no honor! He did  not complete the project as he personally promised, and I as I mentioned above, has not reimbursed me for my losses. To recoup my losses, I need to go through small claims court. After working with the owner for many years previously, I was taken off guard by his recent behavior. I paid in good faith based on prior experiences and a belief he was a man of honor. I tried to appeal to a sense of honor which he apparently has lost. ANd what he has especially lost is my longtime business forever due to his nastiness, lack of integrity  and unethical business practices. Believe NO ONE else there, as the owner controls all aspects. Buyer beware!

"I refrained from telling the truthful reason for this clients disappointment which had nothing to do with our work as it did with me rejecting her amorous advances on several occasions."

The chair still has a stain on it, which was why I originally called. I was given a different time than the workers were given.

Our much loved sofa got a new life at Audubon Upholstery. The final product was beautifully done and looked great. It was rebuilt from the bottom up. John listened and made sure that the sofa looked like it did when it was new. The sofa is more firm than it used to be and will hopefully become softer. Communication is key. John also kindly provided the leftover fabric scraps for our use.

Very good quality work. They were not the cheapest quote that I got, but my last reupholstering job at another company did not go well so I was willing to pay more to have it done right. The 2 chairs that John did were nicely stitched, the fabric all lined up perfectly, and he replaced two seat cushions which were worn beyond repair. It took a while to get these two chairs back, but that's because I told him I was not in any hurry. I would definitely use Audubon Upholstery again for my next project. They were very nice to work with. Price below is labor only for 2 wing chairs with me supplying the fabric.

"[Member Name Removed] were extremely cordial and patient with us considering we missed our scheduled delivery due to some minor flaws in their fabric.( This is an ongoing problem with all fabric distributors particularly with imported yardage,) The company quickly replaced the damaged goods and delivery was made shortly after. Thanks guys."

John was very responsive. I went to the shop and picked fabrics, he had the swatches sent to me. I picked a lot--no problem. The fabric was ordered after I approved the yardage pricing (some was very expensive, so he wanted my approval. He did discount the very pricey yardage). The headboard and dining room chair seats were returned very quickly, the wing chair took a while because some of the fabric came in with flaws.
John was unfailingly polite, I thought his prices were fair, the craftsmanship (most noticeable on the wing chair--even the legs are upholstered) was impeccable.
I heartily recommend John's shop. Upholstery isn't cheap, but if you have something you love, it's great to give it a new life.

"Working with [Member Name Removed] was a real pleasure. John happens to be a well known stage and screen actor, residing in Philadelphia. He was moving at the time of our transaction and with all the associated headaches involved in moving he was very cordial and accommodating affording us time for pick ups and deliveries during our business hours. His fabric choices were excellent which is more than i can say about his plumbing skills."

Chair delivered a few weeks later than promised, over budget by at least $100 and not done like we discussed. Also some scratches on the wood not there before.
Response from Audubon Upholstery
"At the onset let me apologize to [member name removed] for any distress we may have caused him.. Our intent was not to leave him disappointed with the completed work. We have always been very service oriented with our clients and always try to keep them abreast of the process. Our procedure at the time of sale is to leave a sales slip specifying the labor and fabric cost along with additional cost for foam and any assorted items ordered. Following the sale the furniture is taken to our shop reupholstered and delivered to the client. Upon delivery the client is asked if the appearance meets their criteria, and then they are asked to sit in the piece before presenting them with the final bill. All of these steps were followed with [member name removed]. Their were no negative remarks of cost, comfort or design. That does not mean we will not make alterations to the design, should the client wish following delivery. The issue of cost is what is written on the sales slip if their is any error we may have overlooked we will upon discussion with the client make the changes and correct the problem. The issue of scratches that were not present at the time of sale is totally unforgivable. The upholsterer working the project should have addressed this at that time, but can be resolved in the customers home after delivery if necessary. The issue of the back pillow design may not be what the client expected and can be redesigned to the clients specifications at their convenience. All of these issues are understandably annoying to the client and we again apologize, but we cannot conclude making any of the corrections if we do not communicate with the client. We have for several days made attempts to contact [member name removed] without any positive results. None of our phone messages have been returned. Our offer to him is if he were not completely satisfied with the final results we would refund the cost. Without his involvement theirs very little we can accomplish."

I fully agree with the other review on Angie's list from 2012...Audubon Upholstery is one of the best kept secrets around (although maybe it's not quite so secret because they are plenty busy with work!) The owner, John, was very responsive right from the beginning. I sent him an email through his website, and he contacted me the next day to set up an appointment to look at the sofa. He came out to look at it, and very quickly followed up with an estimate. At the time, I thought I had found a fabric through Joanne's Fabric (I changed my mind on it when I received a sample), and John is very flexible regarding fabric...if you provide your own, he charges a $15/yard surcharge. We decided to go look at fabrics at John's store instead, and he has tons....we spent about an hour looking, and found 6 we liked. John ordered samples for us, and they arrived at our house within the week. One was perfect. John then set up a date to pick up the sofa, and provided a final estimate. The actual labor charge was very reasonable....about $700, the rest of the charge was for the fabric (mid-price range I would say at around $49/yard) and some throw pillows (about $35 each). Delivery time was about 8 weeks, the the sofa looks beautiful....brand new. The quality of workmanship is amazing. We had some confusion around the throw pillows, and as a result I don't have the ones I wanted (not entirely John's fault as there was some confusion with the fabric), but it's not big deal and we are thrilled with the whole experience.

This is THE best kept secret in Montgomery County. Wouldn't go anywhere else and I am a professional decorator. Prices: cannot be beat; quality: cannot be beat; high level of creativity and great ideas. If you don't use their services, you will pay too much. Quality and pricing are top drawer.
