Here is part of the note I wrote to the kennel after Klondike's stay. I never heard back from them.
Klondike was with you from November 22 through December 1. When we picked her up, she seemed comfortable and fine and we did not notice any problems. You had just washed her and she was not completely dry, so you carried her out to potty and then carried her to our car. Just as soon as we were pulling out of your driveway she started to show signs of favoring her left front paw. She kept lifting it to keep the weight off of it and was hesitant to show it to us. We headed straight to her vet, Dr. Zajac who looked at it and said there was a large boil-like sore on her pad. Dr. Zajac treated her with antibiotics and pain meds but it took a long time for her paw to heal. We do not know what happened to her or where it happened, but it seemed to us that she must have had it for a while and certainly it was present while she was with you. We really could not understand why you did not notice it and start some kind of treatment or at least let us know about it.
A week or so later, Klondike had her grooming appointment with someone who knows her well and has been taking care of her for a while. The groomer told us that when she started to shampoo her, that there was a very strong urine odor in the fur on her feet. She also said that the fur there and on her bottom was discolored and yellowish. When she has seen this before with other dogs, it has been because they have been sitting or lying in their own urine. That never happens at home and the only conclusion we can reach is that it happened at your kennel. You cannot imagine how this saddened us. We thought we were leaving her in good hands and it appears that we didn?t. We were extremely disappointed.
I cannot say for sure what happened to her or where it happened, but I do know that we would not feel comfortable leaving her with you again. We definitely got the impression that you love animals and I cannot imagine any intentional harmful treatment to them. Maybe you were just too overloaded with guests over the holiday and could not attend to all the pets as you normally do. Whatever happened, I hope it was not the regular care you provide.
The facilities were clean and well cared for, the location was beautiful, and the cost was cheaper than many other kennels I have used in the past. I have no hesitation in recommended Hidden Valley Kennels (in fact I have already referred my sister), and I will definitely use them again.
Left my huskies, at the kennel at the appointed time. Spoke to them previously about what was necessary to board them, the paper work needed, the shots, and also a list of contact person. Their food, toys, blankets, and any medicine that they might need. Meet Mary Elaine, and the check in went smoothly. The huskies, were introduced to her, and taken to their crate. The
whole process went well. I told her about their eating habits, and the medicine that one of the huskies needed.
Since I was out of the country, my sister, contacted the kennel, and was given updates about them.
and they were walked twice a day on their over 200 acre property. The kennel was clean, and well kept. The huskies were given
great care while I was away. Mary Elaine, even bathed them before we picked them up. This kennel treated my boys like family members, they were given great care, and love by this facility. Will always go back to Hidden Valley kennel because it's all about the love and attention, and kindness to my family. Would highly recommend this kennel to anyone in need of a top notch kennel. You won't be sorry if you choice Hidden Valley kennel. Can't thank them enough for taking care of my family.
