About us
We are an owner operated home remodeling contractor. The owner is a 3rd generation builder with over 30 years personal experience building and renovating homes and commercial buildings such as banks, restaurants and doctor's offices. He started Tait Construction in 1989 and has been in business ever since. All jobs are personally supervised by the owner. We use subcontractors for electrical, plumbing, masonry & HVAC, however 90% of all other work is carried out by Tait Construction. We are a licensed PA home improvement contractor PA069994 and carry $1,000,000 liability insurance. Our initial consultation and estimate are free, and upon signing a contract, a draw schedule will be submitted with periodic payments to be made on completion of certain stages of the job. After signing a contract, any changes will be in writing detailing the scope of work as well as any changes to schedule and cost. This provides a continuous record of time and expense. While we try to give fixed numbers on all of our work, sometimes this isn't possible. In such cases, a written proposal with time and material charges will be submitted and signed prior to work starting. In addition to manufacturer's warranties, we guarantee our work for 36 months. I made the decision to work with Tait Construction for a very substantial renovation to my 5 bedroom home in July 2014. The renovation was complex, and required a high level of expert guidance from Tait on all fronts. The architecture, engineering, permitting and execution were all very challenging, but were executed in a very timely, cost effective, aesthetically appealing and reliable fashion by the entire Tait team. Mike Tait and his team of craftsmen really did amazing things to the house, prompting me to ask the back for a full garage and basement renovation. I can't say enough about the benefits of working with Tait Construction! They are a permanent part of my plans for future projects and a real "safe harbor" in executing difficult to figure out construction situations. I can't thank them enough for building my old home into my dream home!

This is the third time we've had Mike Tait do a major renovation in our home. Mike was very helpful during the design and planning stage by giving us pros and cons of different materials and finishes. He was very patient in answering our many questions. Once again we are extremely pleased with the job that Mike and his crew did with our basement/laundry room renovation. The finished space is brighter, warmer, and much more usable. The project was completed on time and on budget. Mike was very good at communicating any problems or changes and replied quickly to calls and emails.

Mr. Tait was very professional & helpful in giving us information & more than 1 estimate to help us decide what we wanted as well as what was within our price range. He knew the current Code regulations & advised what they entailed. He knew what he was talking about. Despite my having read you should space boards a little, he advised the wood would shrink some as it dried out so that he does not leave space between wooden boards. He was right on. He was flexible when we asked for modifications from our original plan. He responded without hesitation to replacing a board that I did not like.

We have found Mike to be straightforward, knowledgeable, humorous, and a delight to work with. He is responsive, flexible, calm, and resourceful. His crew and subcontractors are the same, and they show obvious respect for him. He is a gem. He spent a lot of time on this job, shopping for things in Amish country, encountering bureaucratic roadblocks from the township, coping with torrential downpours.

Mike Tait is awesome! My wife and I were expecting our first child and wished to convert our sunroom to a family room before our little one arrived. In May, I contacted several providers through Angies List and although we met with four other contractors we choose Mike. Mike's estimate was not the lowest; however, we felt most comfortable with him given his personality, in-depth
knowledge and candidness. Our existing "sunroom" was a drab room consisting of an uneven concrete floor, non-insulated walls, and dated windows. Also in the room was a gutter for our rear addition which the previous owner decided to place within the room. Mike gave us a detailed proposal and work got started in July. Mike was a great communicator and kept us updated about the status of the job via e-mail. He also notified us promptly once surprises (e.g. rotten beams) popped up. When these surprises emerged, Mike would tell us how we could cut things out in order to save money (e.g. reduce the number of windows with bigger windows in order to reduce cost). The job was completed in September and we are extremely pleased with everything. Mike will definitely be the first person we contact for all of our future contracting needs. He is everything that contractors should strive to be!

All and all everything went good. Some small bumps along the way which should be anticipated with any home project or improvement project. There were some minor "lipping" issues with the tile in the shower but that is to be expected. I would highly suggest discussing this first with any contractor before the start of the project. Long story short: the size of tile; the stacking pattern (brick pattern vs evenly stacked) and grout thickness (smaller width of grout has more effect on lipping) and the lighting all can effect the amouth of lipping that can occur. Love the shower. Glad we spent the money on enlarging it and updating it.

Mike and his crew worked steadily to finish the job. They arrived punctually, were courteous and careful. It seems like a simple job, but we've had two others replace the large screens over the years, and Mike is the only one to do it right.
In fact we have hired Mike to do a large barn remodeling job. We like him a lot. He listens, he's smart, he avoids waste, he's direct.

Mike and his team did a great job. The quality of the deck structure is top notch as well as the craftsmanship of the finishing carpentry. The wood we choose was Ipe which takes extra time to instal and is fairly expensive if you can fit it in your budget, but it looks fantastic! This deck will be around long after we are...
We have had several large "super" storms, since the new french drain installed across the back of the house and under the decking, that i know would have caused major flooding issues. The issues have been resolved completely and i no longer worry every time it rains. Couldn't be happier.

We had previously used Tait Construction for a kitchen facelift and installation of replacement windows. Mike and his crew did a fantastic job on those projects so we had no reservations about using Tait Construction for our sunroom. Mike met with us several times during the design stage and offered great suggestions about material and finishes. Mike was very accommodating to material upgrades and minor changes during the construction process. He was always quick to respond to phone calls and emails. The timeline was longer than estimated, but we weren't too concerned since the sunroom wasn't a necessity like a kitchen or bath. We are once again totally satisfied with the quality of work and thrilled with the final product.

It went great. I was concerned when I discovered an underground water leak in my front yard but Tait Construction handled the whole situation expertly. They assessed the situation, suggested and recommended a course of action and implemented it without hesitation and it went smoothly. They were professional and conscientious. I have great confidence in their work because it was done professionally.

He repaired the roof on our garage. Our garage is pretty unique. We had several other companies come out and tell us that we needed a new roof, but he was able to complete a repair. He fixed a wall and also repaired a gutter. He is an intelligent guy and was able to answer all my questions. He tailored to what we wanted and stayed within our price. We also had him do work on a screen door. He is a good listener. He arrived on time and cleaned up well.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the work Mike did on our house. The job got off to a slow start at first due to permits and the holidays. Since the construction was the outside of our house, I wasn't overly concerned. Took about two months start to finish. Mike made good suggestions and his craftsmanship is top notch. He was also open to any changes we wanted to make throughout the process. The house is pretty old (1920) and the roof over porch was not plumb . Mike was able to work with the existing structure to bring it up to code and make it aesthetically pleasing. The overall price was fair and I feel we got our money's worth. Mike had workers with him on certain days (siding, framing). All were knowledgeable and really nice people. Job site was always clean. As a person, Mike is trustworthy and a great guy. We would definitely use them again in the future.

Mike and his crew were great. He listened very carefully to what we wanted and offered great suggestions based on his experience. As the job progressed, we added more things to the list such as a new entry door, opening up a wall, and adding trim to an entryway. Mike was very accommodating to any change and was very responsive to calls and emails. The finished product looks great. We are very happy with the outcome and have since hired Mike to replace some windows in other parts of the house.

Mike and his crew did an excellent job, they were very polite, worked diligently, and most importantly CLEAN! They took extra care to ensure the house was left in the same shape they left it. Also, there were no surprise costs...the final bill was exactly the same as the estimate. I would recommend Mike and his crew, and if I need them in the future I would not hesitate to call.

Old aluminum siding was way overdue in replacing. Tait Construction replaced all with new vinyl siding and capping on the doors, windows and trim boards. My house needed extra care as the original construction of the house was sub-par and they fixed it right when putting on new siding. They were very clean, organized, and the work was well done. The bathroom makeover was for master bath. New everything: shower tiling, toilet, sink, vanity, lights, plumbing, wainscoting on walls and trim.

I was very happy with the work Tait Construction did on my house! They showed up on time, stayed within the budget, and completed the work on time. Tait Construction did a great job explaining to me what work was needed, and offered me different solutions to complete the work that needed to be done. From there, they helped me choose the best option that met my budget and needs. I was VERY happy with the work Tait Construction did on my house, and would use them again. I would also highly recommend them!

It went great overall. Mike Tait gave us an estimate and started on time. He said he would take 3 days and he was done by that timeframe. Everything went smoothly except when the vents were moved our AC starting acting up. We had to call an HVAC to come out and look at it and Mike Tait picked up the bill for that which I thought was very professional of him. The total price of the project changed from the initial one due the changes that we decided to do and required a little bit more time.. Overall we were very pleased.

I found Mike through Angie's List and asked him to give me a bid. He came over right away, reviewed the project with me, and offered a competitive price. He then completed the work in 2 days during the following week. Mike did an excellent job and gave me some good advice regarding the work I would subsequently perform.
