I brought my van to Vollmer's because the transmission was slipping. They said they would look for the problem and replace the filter and fluid. When I came in to pick it up, they didn't mention the slipping, so I asked. The mechanic got a "deer in the headlights" look and then said he didn't see anything wrong. There were some metal fines in the pan but he said that this was normal for the first fluid change.
After a few days, the transmission started slipping again. They checked the diagnostic codes and said the transmission needs either a complete overhaul or replacement. When I asked why they charged me almost $400 to change the fluid and filter on a transmission that needs replacement, he first tried to tell me that he had told me of the problem at the time (he did not). Then he said he read the codes the first time (he did not). Then he admitted that he didn't remember what he did.
The final point is that he is not willing to work with me on this unnecessary maintenance. He wants $3000 to replace the transmission.
