I had actually used him once before and he was very good and charged a reasonable rate. That is why I didn't hesitate to call him when my water heater went. While he came right over and did a good job again, I mistakenly failed to ask him ahead of time what the price was going to be. He charged me $2900, which I thought was outrageous. The plumbing supply store he got the water heater from is literally blocks from my house and he lives within 2 miles of my house. I called the the supplier after he left and found out that the wholesale price is $1000 (professionals get a 10% discount). So he charged me $2000 (he also would not give an itemized bill) for him and a non-licensed helper for four hours worth of work. I realize that he has to earn a living too but $500 an hour is just ridiculous. I really feel that he sucks you in the first time he does work for you by working at a cheaper rate and than rips you off the next time you need him. The first time he did work for me was removing and installing a tub. All total he was there at least 7 or 8 hours, had to come back a second day for final connections (when I was done doing the tiling) and he charge me $1050. A big difference. Too much for me to ever use him again.
