While investigating the Liftmaster unit on the Liftmaster Website, I learned there was a special on and so got a second opener free, got an Internet gateway free and got a wall-mounted entry pad free. My car is a 2002 model and its Homelink unit doesn't work with the new technology (rolling code generation) in the new opener, so I needed a transceiver to make it work. That was free as well, however. They only charged me the cost of materials for the safety cables (no installation) and there was no additional charge for installing any of the things listed above.
I did not go to Hendershot first; I had a bid to install the exact same Liftmaster system from another Angie'sList-recommended garage door installer. But their bid had lots of installation charges above and beyond the cost of the materials. In fact, for the system Hendershot installed, that company would have charged me $790! I knew something was wrong when they told me it would cost $75 to purchase and install the transceiver. The full retail price on a transceiver is $50 (but Liftmaster provides it free, as noted above, when one buys their opener). "Installing" the transceiver consists of plugging it into a wall and then holding a button on the provided remote while inside one's car. Similarly, that bid listed $45 to buy and install the surge protector. Its full retail is $24 and "installation" consists of plugging it in and connecting four short wires. When on the Liftmaster site, I asked them to list the authorized dealers in my zip code and Hendershot came up. The other company (reviewed elsewhere here) did not. So, authorized dealer means MUCH better price. And Hendershot did a great job, so I cannot see how the other company could have done better for almost $300 more.
It should be told that I originally contacted Girard's for a estimate, and they too came out and provided a estimate of $251.00. $136 for 2-110 LB springs, $30 for a cable sheave Bearing, $30 for 2 safety cables, and $55 Svc Fee - and repair would take 20 min.
Hendershot Door Systems was $117.00 which = $28 for 2 120 LB springs, $4.00 for a cable sheave bearing, $85.00 Svs Fee - oh and no new safety cables needed, which = a total savings of $134.00! And work completed in 15 min.
Moral of the story - shop around - even on Angies list. "A" rating doesn't always mean "A" or fair pricing and services.
Thank you Hendershot for your great service and fair pricing!!!!!!!
While my wife and I were getting things ready at the new house for the move in, we noticed that the garage door didn't open and close smoothly and quietly. We scheduled a service with them.
The technician called to verify the appointment, and reviewed the door installation quite thoroughly. The home was built 5 years ago and the technician found and corrected an issue from when the builder installed the garage door. The door now opens and closes smoothly and quietly as it should. We are happy to recommend them.
