Excellent. Made an extra effort to take a hose on the roof to discover cause of leak in Murrysville. Made two trips from Murrysville to Mars. First trip to diagnose problem then second for repair. Don't be mislead by his self description. He is a nice young man starting out on his own but has a lot of experience from working in the roofing profession. He gave me options in both cases how the problems could be handled.

We needed urgent repair on a roof leak. At first, he was responsive. He came and performed work. But he didn't correctly diagnose the problem. He required instant payment and cash the check within a couple days. When the leak happened again, he quoted a 4-digit amount to replace the portion of the roof. When we requested him to meet and discuss further, he stopped responding altogether. We then went with another roofer and he diagnosed and fixed the leak within 2 hours.
Response from J Haines Roofing Co

"I took a hose on the roof to find the leak because, I did not see anything obvious that would cause a leak. She accompanied me on the roof. It appeared to be coming in the ridge vent everytime I put water to it, and she agreed. The next day before I did repair she wanted to check it with hose again to make sure that was the problem, it leaked again, and she said to do the repair. A couple days later she called, and said it was leaking again, so I took the hose back up there it did not leak from ridge vent repair it was leaking in the valley (Where two different roof slopes meet) I then went into the attic to see if I could see leaking inside.(Which I usually do first, but she said I couldn't get to that section) I found the leak, and rotten, and moldy plywood. I then informed her that the valley shingles and plywood needed replaced a pertty substantial amount of work. I was there four times, and she did not like my diagnosis. You have to repair a roof leak properly, or it will just come back again. The only way it could have been fixed in two hours is if someone smeared tar over shingles. I typically deposit checks within a day or two of reciving them. I do my best to explain, and show customers what I am doing on their roof with pictures to insure they are satisfied. Thank you for reading."

I believe I found them through Angie's List. He was very professional and he explained everything. He left a Corning brochure of all the different types of shingles and coverings. It took them about 3 days to do it. We don't have a big house and it's a low roof, but when they took the first roof off, there was a second one underneath and everything had been torn down. It took them 1 1/2 days to get that off and they were so dead, they didn't come back until a couple of days later, but they had put a covering over in case there were any rains or whatnot. They came back and finished the job and cleaned everything up. The dog was even outside running and she would sit on top of the pile of shingles watching them. She would get off them, let them take a bag and then go back up to the roof. They were very good. Their quality was excellent. Responsiveness was good. Their punctuality was terrific. I had to go to work that day and they showed up 5 minutes after I left. Their professionalism was very good. He answered any questions and they made sure we took particular care watching what they were doing when they were cleaning stuff off the roof as they were pulling everything up. I would use them again and I would recommend them to anybody. They are not a big firm. They are local, but they are excellent. In 20 years if they are still around, I don't think we'll need a roof by then and I don't even know if I'll still alive by then, but I will leave a note for anybody who will buy this house to use them again.

The work started as soon as possible this rainy Spring. Two layers of shingles and rolled roofing were stripped off. As
it turned out, the sheeting was only 3/8and quot; on two foot center trusses. Jason was concerned about the sagging between trusses and the roof being bouncy. The solution was to lay a layer of 1/2 sheeting on top.
The other issues were interference between the storm door and the facia on an addition that was installed on the rear of the split entry house. Jason modified the facia and and wrapped it. He did a great professional job.
We also had the address how to install the aluminum on the sides of both roofs. The house is stone faced with the mortar against the wood facia. The solution which was more time consuming was to chip away some of the mortar and make special aluminum that had a 1/2 in flange instead of 3/4 in.
Both of these unplanned challenges turned out very well. He came up with solutions that look great.

Had a leak in main roof around end of October 2012. Called this company, he was out pretty quickly with an estimate. Good estimate and very thorough with his explanations, a nice guy really.
But he was pretty busy at the time, couldn't give a start date for the work, fair enough. About a month later, sometime in November, we were told he would start before Christmas. Then Christmas went by. By February 2013, we called someone else and had the work done within a week. Too much time had passed already. Heard again from him a couple weeks after work was already completed, told him he wasn't needed.
Response from J Haines Roofing Co

"I told customer that we were busy at the time of estimate, and that we could likely start before Chrismas (weather permitting). Typically roofing in winter months can be difficult because of snow and ice making it too dangerous to work on a roof, I told him that, and he understood. The problem came when I called the customer first week of January to let him know the forcast was calling for 60 degree weather next week, and that we could start roof then. He did not answer or return messages until a week later. I then informed him that, I had scheduled another job because, I did not hear back from him for a week, and that I had to take advantage of the nice weather so, I moved on to the next customer on my list. He was not happy. I told him he would be next on the list but he told me forget it. This is why the F rating. Thank you for reading"

They did an excellent job, the roof looks perfect and Jason went the extra mile to make sure the shingles match the older main roof and the other two porch roofs. He even noticed that the front windows were not caulked and wood behind the window frames was exposed to rain, and offered to do that for me. I really appreciate that he cared. I couldn't be more pleased with the workmanship, and he is very courteous, prompt, and honest. There was absolutely no mess after the job was completed. Will be sure to contact Jason again when I need a new roof and recommend to everyone. If you're looking for quality at the best price, look no further than J Haines Roofing.

I called him in the morning on a Friday and he showed up the same day that I called him at 2 pm even though he was going to be leaving town. The next day he gave me an estimate. He is very professional, thorough, reasonable, he communicated well with me, and I would recommend him to anyone. I have never been so happy. He got rid of all the trash so I did not have to worry about it. I was not even here when he was doing the job and if he had a problem, he took a picture and sent it to my son in New York. He never did anything that we did not agree upon without checking with us first. He was extremely responsive. I am very satisfied with the job, efficiency and punctuality.

Very impressed with Jason and his team. He called back right away and was able to come out within days of my first contacting him. Versus other companies that never even returned my calls. His price was very reasonable and the work completed was excellent. He explains what he is doing and is willing to show you (if you are willing to get up on your roof). In a couple years when my roof needs to be replaced, I will definitely be giving Jason and his team the job.

I'm very pleased with the work done by Jason and his crew. My roof was leaking in three places because of the crazy spring rain we had and because my skylights had not originally been installed correctly. I received bids from three different roofers and I knew right away that Jason was the best of them. He spent a lot of time pointing out things about the roof that he'd be able to improve for me. None of the others seemed to take that much time to look at it and talk to me about it. His price was the lowest. He was punctual, always coming at the time specified. Plus, I'd seen him around Murrysville with his kids. That gave me comfort he wasn't a fly by nighter.

Its been a couple months now and no leaks of course even though we've had some very hard and sustained rains in the last month. I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of a new roof.
