We've done several remodeling projects in different houses over the years, and have never encountered a more professional, skilled, and honest contractor. He is a very skilled carpenter and woodworker and a creative problem solver who handles every phase of remodeling--cabinetry, electrical work, plumbing, tile work, etc. Our porch remodel involved encasing old wrought-iron support posts in rough-sawn hemlock--the house siding material--and building a solid waist-high railing out of the same wood. Kevin found lumber that matched our siding at a local sawmill and, working from a rough sketch I had drawn, created a porch that looks like it has always been here, it matches the house so well. One of his most valuable practices is giving the customer design options as he works. This was particularly significant in the porch project, because there was no detailed architectural plan to follow. When he was designing the new posts, for example, he built models of a few options and let us decide. Likewise with the railing design. The window replacement also involved some problem-solving. The opening for the three windows had to be vertically enlarged, and on the exterior, this meant cutting the siding to accommodate the larger windows and then cutting the pieces he'd removed and nailing them back on. Again, the windows look like they've always been here. The interior work involved patching drywall, caulking seams and installing new trim. When he left, the walls around the windows were ready to paint. In a few cases, Kevin fixed problems that were beyond the scope of the contract. When he opened up the walls, for example, he found old wiring that had not been properly disconnected, and he went into the attic and corrected the situation. Likewise, he found there was no insulation between interior walls and siding in two rooms, so he installed it.
Description of Work: Kevin worked on two projects: -- Remodeling of a large front porch. -- Installation of new windows in three rooms, which involved removal of half-size awning windows and replacing them with standard-size casement windows.
