They were excellent to work with. They knew the development and what was needed. They were careful with the installation. It's better if you're home so they can lay down tarps to protect your flooring.
Description of Work: KPI 2 Incorporated removed an old skylight and installed a new one.

This company was recommended by one of our neighbors so I had high hopes. No problems scheduling the estimate, and the estimator was friendly. That's where the good experience ended. The estimator couldn't answer some basic questions I had about differences in materials, and instead kept talking about other jobs they were doing. Was he trying to divert my attention from the fact that he didn't know the answers to my questions? Or prove that they are reputable because they have other - and bigger - jobs that they're working on? Anyway, the proposal he promised to get me within a couple of days was more than a couple of days late - and then it was just dropped off at our front door (we were home but he didn't bother to ring the doorbell). The quote for the roof was almost $3k - 40%! - higher than a competitor's quote. Granted, the competitor quoted 30-yr shingles and this estimator quoted lifetime shingles - but I made it pretty clear that we did not need lifetime shingles since this is a starter home. I was hoping he would hear that and present quotes for both, but only the more expensive shingles were included in the proposal. The quote for the chimney work was reasonable and he did give two options of materials for the chimney chase cover. However, I never got a proper explanation about the difference between the less-expensive aluminum and the more-expensive stainless steel. We ended up going with the other company for the roof replacement - and were very happy with them. After the roof was completed, we decided to go back to KPI and have them do the chase cover. I called them 4 weeks to the day of receiving their proposal (the proposal was valid for 30 days) to request to move forward with the job. I left a message for the estimator advising him of this but asking for his help (again) in understanding the difference in materials so we could decide which one to use. It took him a couple of days to call me back - he got my voice mail and left a message with some sort of lame excuse about why he didn't call me back quicker. I called him back right away and again got his voice mail. Again another day for him to call me back. And when he did - and this was the 31st day from the date of the proposal - he said that they price off the $450 option went up for $150 and the price of the $650 option when up by $250! He chalked this up to an increase in labor and materials. REALLY??? In one month the price of aluminum and steel went up by 30-40%????? Of course, had he bothered to call me back after my initial phone call, they would have had to honor the original quote. My feeling is that they didn't want to take such a small job and I would have appreciated that had he been up front from the very beginning. Instead, I got the runaround, a bunch of lame excuses, and an insanely high quote to push me to go elsewhere.
