It was great. The downstairs is a finished basement, so most of it is underground. Mr. Ellsworth put up shields so that there was not much dust. during the work. He had to cut into the wall and take out the small window which was already there. Then he installed a new access window, put in an attractive outside well, lined the bottom with many layers of stone, with an attractive layer on top. He then put an outside cover over the well. Drainage was done properly and there have been no problems in water being retained in the well. After the work was done, everything was clean and back in order. One couldn't tell that there had been any construction done. I was concerned about there being no way of getting out of the basement if there was a fire. Mr.Ellsworth did proper research into what was best for my problem and let me decide on designs and windows, etc. before he proceeded. Mr. Ellsworth was exceptionally professional, while at the same time being respectful, clean, informative, and a gentleman. Having construction done is not fun, but he made the process so easy. I would highly recommend him for any project you have in mind.

Based on previous reviews of Ellsworth Interior Improvements and Jim's structural engineering background, I hired Jim Ellsworth to come in and analyze what appeared to be a settling in my home which caused the doors to be crooked and the floors to appear somewhat bowed/uneven.  Jim came out at no charge to take a look and let me know what he thought.  He was knowledgeable and did not try and sell me on anything I did not need.  I asked him to come back and do a thorough analysis of the house to provide me an indication of what I was dealing with.  Jim came back the next day, as promised, with his laser and measurement tools and took numerous measurements.  He was very thorough in his analysis and determined that although, the house had settled, it was not as much structural as it was the original builders had taken shortcuts on the floor and door framing.  Jim provided invaluable advice on how to approach each of the areas in a cost effective manner.  He showed me a number of ways to correct some of the minor problems and clearly wrote down what I would need to do/ask for from the other contractors I am planning on bringing in to correct the problem areas.
Jim is knowledgeable and freely shares his knowledge while working on the job without trying to sell you on other service.
I would/will definitely use Jim in the future.

The job is beautiful!  We were considering moving because we fell in love with a model home that was for sale in our area.  We opted to upgrade our house instead. We gave him ideas and he offerred suggestions that meshed so well! Working with Jim was such a good experience, he was the only call we made when we had a flood in our basement and had to have some more work done.

He cleaned up very well both inside and outside. It turned out beautifully. He was quite, polite, and respectful. I would very highly recommend him. I was most impressed with his reliability. He talked to me about all the decisions and we researched things together with him giving me his input. The whole experience worked out very well.

Jim Ellsworth got the job done within the projected cost, despite unexpected issues with flooring, wiring, etc. Family and friends rave about the results. His subcontractors were uniformly expert, polite and a pleasure to have in the house. He assisted in discussing design and material options as well as locating suppliers, and when I found less expensive cabinets than from the good price his usual cabinet supplier could provide, he accompanied me to the new supplier and worked effectively with them. While he made suggestions, he did not interfere with my selection of colors, materials, etc.
I have had Jim do a range of other small and larger jobs previously and have always been pleased with the quality of his work and professionalism.

Realistically speaking Jim, owner of Ellsworth Interior Improvements, does not know what he is doing when it comes to improvements. He was hired to repair the stairs to the basement in my house. He ended up replacing the stairs. Part way through his work I questioned why the last step was so close to the basement door. He asked if this was a problem. He did make an adjustment for it. But why was it necessary? When he told me he was finished I asked why the risers and treads were not even. He asked was this a problem and that if it was he would come back to fix it. He sent someone else to fix it for him who didn't know much about stairs either. Ellsworth never called to find out if the work was done to my satisfaction and actually the last riser is still not even with the other risers. Again, if Jim knows what he is doing why would all of this be necessary? My mistake. I will never hire Jim again.

Response from Ellsworth Interior Improvements
"I respectfully disagree with this customers review. I sent out a very qualified carpenter to address this customers concerns over a year and a half after the initial work was completed. The problem was addressed and the customer made no indication she was not satisfied. As a very qualified construction professional and successful business owner I try to make all efforts to leave my customers completely satisfied, however sometimes it is not possible. Please read all of my other reviews for a more accurate representation of the reputable work my company is known for."

He did a great job, got better quality oak, as per my request.  He did what he said he would for a good price, the room looks great, and he didn't cut corners.
I'm planning to use him again!

As I stated on my 12/18 review we had Jim back out to finish the remodel of our first floor.  He laminated the remaining first floor ceiling to prevent any further plaster collapses and demo & repaired a wall where the plaster was failing as well. We had him install crown molding on the remainder of the first floor to match his previous work.  He built a coat closet that required sealing off and relocating our basement door. This also required the movement of some plumbing that fed the second floor; Jim used a great subcontractor for this.
My wife decided to have the crown molding continued in the second floor hallway. As an add-on Jim was very fair in his pricing again. Jim also ?threw in? a few minor details that many contractors would look to as an opportunity to pad their bill, i.e. he used some of the dentil molding from the crown on our mantelpiece to tie the old woodwork in with the new, pulling new wire  and installing a box for a light in the closet, etc. Once again Jim?s quality of work, professionalism, and fair pricing will be bringing him back to complete more projects in our old home.

We initially hired Jim Ellsworth to remodel our Levittown ?Jubilee? kitchen, but we also asked him to act as our general contractor for other projects inside and outside the house.  First Jim took what was essentially a 55-year old kitchen (we still had the original metal cabinets) and turned it into a beautiful, modern, and functional one.  He also created a laundry closet for our washer and dryer (they were originally in the kitchen) and installed a new sliding patio door for us.  Jim and his carpenter performed most of the work in the kitchen remodel including demolition as well as the installation of new custom made 42 inch maple cabinets (all the way to the ceiling!), counter-top, sink, a new sliding patio door, an absolutely beautiful Italian tile back-splash with glass ribbon trim, a tiled entry way, new crown-molding in the living and dining room, new base board heaters, a new coat-closet door, and a new garage door.  We also bought new appliances, and Jim and his crew expertly installed them.  Jim also served as a general contractor in supervising the electrical and plumping work as well as the installation of new flooring and painting throughout the entire house and replacement of our siding, downspouts, and gutters.
Jim Ellsworth's craftsmanship has no equal ? he takes great pride in his work and went the ?extra mile? to make sure everything was done to perfection and to insure we got exactly what we wanted whether it was work done by him or the sub-contractors.  Jim has an eye for design and color, and we often deferred to him in matters of tile and paint color selection.  His prices are very competitive.  And if all this isn?t enough to get your attention then how about this:  Jim is a very, very nice man and both the large dog and small cat fell
in love with him too.  Having him come here was more like having a good friend or relative stop by.  We are going to miss him, but we are planning to get him back in soon to remodel our upstairs bathroom!

Jim has been a pleasure to work with. We have a house that is almost 100 years old and can be difficult to work with. He repaired a fallen plaster ceiling in our living room with laminating drywall, added two electrical boxes for future lighting to the ceiling, and installed a 5 piece buildup crown molding.
He responded quickly to the request for an estimate; stopping by the same day and having a detailed proposal to me in 2 days. The estimate was competitively priced and covered the job in detail.
Jim and his employee John showed great consideration while on the job. They were punctual, kept a clean workspace, and were very considerate of trying to keep the mess of demolition and sanding contained.  I have seen many home repair/improvement projects and the quality of their work was second to none.
The electrical work and using a buildup crown, as opposed to the off the shelf pieces quoted in the original estimate, were add-ons after the project was started. The price for these extras was very fair compared to some of my past experiences with other contractors.
We will be using Jim again in the near future. As soon as the holidays are past he will be back to install matching crown on the
remaining first floor, repair a wall that has collapsing plaster, installing a closet, and moving a basement door to accommodate the new closet.

Jim Elsworth was with the project from initial choices of materials, assisted with pick-up and did all the installation, solved unexpected problems in consultation with me, and alerted me in a timely way when additional work was required that resulted in costs slightly more that the original estimate.  He was professional and considerate throughout the process.  Quality of work is always the top priority.  I recommend him without reservation.

I am planning to buy a condo but the general inspection found that the floor is not leveled well.  We hired Jim for additional in-depth evaluation.  He did a thorough check and used professional equipment to quantify for us the extend of the problem.  He even did extra to measure the neighbor's condition (with their permission).  I believe, with his help and his professional opinion, we made the right decision and avoided buying a condo which can potentially cause financial headache.
Response from Ellsworth Interior Improvements
"My pleasure to help you make an informed decision on whether to purchase this house or not. Good luck in your continued search."
