I called to have my 50s home electrical updated, DTS was booked almost a month out & required a $200 deposit. The owner said as long as I let him know 72 hours ahead, I could cancel no charge. I ended up being able to find someone to come out earlier and called Sat morning to cancel for a Tues appt. He said the 72 hrs was business days only, wkend didn't count. So I kept the appt since I'm paying anyway. Tues comes around & he calls me early to see if I'm home, which I'm still at work. I can't fit all the details here, but basically it sounds like he double booked me and another lady, or tightly booked. He said he could move her, but then I'd have to cover (pay) her 3-4 hrs job? Or he could do hers then come back to me (I have small children & it would run into dinner/ bath time). It also was apparent my job wasn't as important to him (less money), he made that pretty clear. He kept saying he's a small business and had to fill his day. To him, I was just another number. I canceled.
Response from DTS Electric Inc
"Unfortunately, we do require a $200 deposit to book an appointment. I made it very clear from the initial call that we were a few weeks out and there would be a cancellation fee (within 72 business hours ). We both agreed that you would let me know by the end of business day Friday if you were going to cancel. From the beginning you were fully aware of my availability and you chose to book the time/date and left me with the agreed deposit. You then called and left a message in my office Saturday afternoon. The office line doesn’t get checked on the weekends so I didn’t receive the message until Monday, leaving me very little time to fill in my day so I don’t lose time and work. I had left you my cell phone number, which is also on my answering machine, so there was no reason not to get ahold of me directly. After I called and told you the fee would be applied you requested to keep the hour you had paid for (cancelation fee). I agreed to come out but I only had the hour available as I had another job that I filled in for the rest of the day to make up for your cancellation (I never said anything about you paying for another customers time). I gave you the option to keep that time or push it back a little. You then proceeded to yell at me and tell me you didn’t care about my other customer and you demanded more time than what you had paid for (I had originally planned extra time for you before you canceled). You continued to threaten me with negative reviews and bad mouth me. Yes, I am a small business and if I don’t work I am unable to make a living. Unfortunately, this type of situation is why we started implementing a cancellation fee. I appreciate my customer who was able to move their day around and meet last minute and they did not deserve to have their day rearranged again. I’m sorry this happened the way it did but I hope you can see things through a small businesses point of view. All the best, Dave"

David has never tried to sell me anything that I didn't need. In fact he has talked me out of some things and suggested simple (and lower cost) solutions to items I wanted done. David stands by his work and will revisit a problem if you are not entirely happy with something. In one case David redid an entire installation at no extra cost when he believed that the GFA outlets may have failed and this was 6/8 months after he installed them.

We have used Dave of DTS Electric for several jobs around the house.  We trust him.  He is willing to come to the house and evaluate the job before starting anything.  I think he may charge a little more than some others but I don't really know because we like the quality of his work and his honesty.  He is by the book. He lets us know ahead of time what he thinks and the possible pitfalls.  In the past, for us, he has installed a 200 amp panel, outdoor receptacles, light fixtures, wall receptacles and exhaust fans.  Our house is old.  He has corrected several unsafe conditions due to old equipment and wires and inadequate DIY work for which we are grateful.  In the last job he did for us, Dave had to be resourceful and creative to install the exhaust fans in our bathrooms.  He did an excellent job.  Also, on several occasions he has realized a better or cheaper way to complete a job and makes us aware of it.  Dave has always been on time and respectful of our home.  He has an easygoing manner and is very easy to talk to.  He explains everything.  We have also had the pleasure of meeting his Dad who is also an electrician.  We have already recommended him to friends and neighbors.  Finally, we are on Angie's List to recommend him to the greater community.

DTS diagnosed the fault was in the broken circuitry of the outdoor lighting system. I decided to rip out the components and buy solar-powered lighting for the walkways. DTS disassembled the system for me.

David was very professional, arrived on time and cleaned up each area he was working in.  He asked me if the placement of each light fixture before he installed it was exactly where I wanted it and if I was happy with the way it looked. He made useful suggestions as to flush mounting of four of the fixtures and showed me how to adjust the motion detectors on the fixtures.
When David took off the bathroom switch plate to change one of the dimmer switches that was faulty, he noticed that the switches were not properly installed.  He replaced the one defective dimmer switch and correctly rewired the other two switches. After completing the repair, he suggested to me that I could use 75 watt led light bulbs instead of the 100 watt led light bulbs that came with the fixtures. The use of less wattage would still give me the light I needed and prolong the life of the dimmer light switch.  I did replace the 100 watt led bulbs with 75 watt led bulbs making the light from the fixtures much easier on my eyes. Thank you David for the very useful suggestion.
I will definitely use DTS Electric again.

We've used Dave on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed. He is always very professional and very straightforward. On this particular project he replaced a ceiling fan in one bedroom, installed a new electrical fixture where there had been one in another bedroom, and replaced two outdated and tacky chandeliers. We are very pleased with his work and will continue to call on him as needed. Highly recommend!

Two new outlets were installed upstairs for a washer and dryer and he changed out an outlet in the kitchen for a microwave oven. In the living room he was supposed to fix and/or replace an outlet. David failed to connect a wire inside the outlet and as a result the outlet appeared to be non-functioning. I tested it myself by going up there and found out that it was the outlet itself. I had to pay for another electrician to come out here to correct the work that David should have done in the first place. He also installed the incorrect voltage. Additionally, I sent the key to a floor installer and told them to pass the key on to David, which did happen. I was out of town preparing to move down here. However, he left the key in a plastic baggie with no note at the front of my house. If anyone had found they key, they would have been able to get into the house. The key was supposed to be returned to the floor installer. I was furious. That was unethical of him to do. He was careless, neglectful and disrespectful. David had agreed to return the key to the floor installer and chose not to.
Response from DTS Electric Inc
"[Removed member information], I am very disheartened to see that you have waited almost a year to contact me. If there is ever any problem you can reach out to me directly at any time. First, I would like to address the "hardwood" floor you spoke of. It was rotted plywood subfloor that you and the contractor said was going to be replaced by him (Not hardwood flooring). As such, we agreed I could pull up a strip about 2x5 foot long to run wires, which I screwed back in place for safety. The key was left for the contractor as he had left it for me, which is how he requested it back. Being as you lived in New York and had not moved in yet, I did request a deposit. Instead, you chose to send me the total cost of the job ($600.00) and said you didn't mind. All outlets were tested by myself and all were operating properly when I left the job (1-240v dryer, 1 washer, 1-240v ac in living room and one kitchen outlet). We were then scheduled to meet and walk through the job after you moved in on 09/08/14. I had arrived at 8am as scheduled and waited out front with another contractor which had arrive at the same time. We both knocked and called with no answer. After waiting 45 minutes and several messages later we both decided to leave. I left a door hanger proving I was there.Since then I haven't heard back and assumed everything was fine. As a small business owner, I always strive to please my customers 100%. Anytime there is any discretion I need to be contacted immediately so I can fix whatever the problem may be. Thank you, Dave"

Dave returned my call promptly and we were able to schedule him for our project very soon thereafter.  Dave arrived on time for our project and we reviewed the cost and expectations again prior to beginning.
Dave was very professional and explained what he would be doing in detail.  I had very high expectations for Dave as he has received great reviews on Angie's List and a co-worker had used his services for their home project.
The reason I gave Dave a rating of a C is as follows:
1.) He damaged the crown molding in our living room while drilling one of the access holes to run the wire.  It was not major, but I brought it to his attention and he responded as if it was not a big deal.  Any damage to a customer's home should be viewed as a significant issue in my opinion and warranted considerations.
2.) Our 4 recessed lights are not exactly symmetrical as Dave's only measurement tool was a tape measure.  I had expected more precise measurements for recessed lighting.
3.) I presented him the 10% off Angie's List Coupon and although he did accept it, he was reluctant based upon difficulty of job as he put it.  I was unclear what he meant since we had reviewed job scope prior to beginning, but as I mentioned he did accept.
4.) He left without installing a switch cover, which is very minor however shows completeness of the job.
The entire project took approximately 4.5 hours.

Response from DTS Electric Inc
"Hello [member name removed], I'm Sorry to hear you were not 100% satisfied. I try my hardest to please every one of my costumers, although sometimes it is harder than others. I would like to address all of your concerns. (1) There was no damage done to the crown molding the paint was just rubbed off where I had to drill close to it. Seeing as the ceiling had to be pained anyway due to the work that had to be done for the recessed lights it shouldn't be a worry. (2) The tape measure is the most common tool for measuring in the construction trade. The two recessed that you are referring to had to be put in a different bay due to existing duct work that I made you aware of and could not be moved.(every job is different) (3) The price that was given to you was a rough estimate without seeing the job because you wanted to get me on the schedule as soon as possible. There were extra costs that were incorporated with the duct work being in the way but I kept the price the same. So instead of raising the price I had asked you to split the 10% to 5% which you refused and I excepted because I would rather make a costumer happy. (4) The switch cover that I had so called left off was left off because you had specifically told me not to put it on. You were going to provide a custom one that matched the rest of the house and with several outlet covers already off before I had arrived I didn't see a problem. If you have any further concerns feel free to contact me any time. Thanks, Dave"

This was my second time using this electrican because of reasonable prices and solid work! Basically he added about 4 to 6 bolts to the already existing/functional tv wall mount and hung a heavier television. He had assistane from my spouse in lifting & hanging the tv. my spouse and I moved the 42in tv to another room and set it up Contractor required additional bolts that he did not have and I ran out to pick them up...which took about 15 mins. Contractor arrived at 10 am when he confirmed an arrival time between 9-9:30am I was charged $235.00 for about 2 hour work. Contractor specifically asked for payment in cash and indicatedd if I paid in cash he would reduce my rate. Contractor advised me that if the job took 2 hours or less he would only charge me between 180-200 dollars. I feel I was over charged and didnt receive any reduction in rate for paying in cash as requested. Also he didn't provide any receipts for his work and arrived an half hour late. Would NOT use him again.

"Hello [member name removed], I'm sorry if there was any miscommunication but I had told you the price would be between 250-300 dollars before we had even scheduled the work due to you being an hour and a half away from me. With tolls and fuel costs it came to $315.00 but I did work with you at the cash price. If you have any further questions please feel free to give me a call. Thanks, Dave"

The total cost I have listed includes at least three trips as we found more things to do. In each case the job was done on time and under estimate. I should also point out that when we wanted something done one way, Dave would let us know if there was a less expensive method that would achieve the same results. I HIGHLY recommend DTS service.
