"Unfortunately, we do require a $200 deposit to book an appointment. I made it very clear from the initial call that we were a few weeks out and there would be a cancellation fee (within 72 business hours ). We both agreed that you would let me know by the end of business day Friday if you were going to cancel. From the beginning you were fully aware of my availability and you chose to book the time/date and left me with the agreed deposit. You then called and left a message in my office Saturday afternoon. The office line doesn’t get checked on the weekends so I didn’t receive the message until Monday, leaving me very little time to fill in my day so I don’t lose time and work. I had left you my cell phone number, which is also on my answering machine, so there was no reason not to get ahold of me directly. After I called and told you the fee would be applied you requested to keep the hour you had paid for (cancelation fee). I agreed to come out but I only had the hour available as I had another job that I filled in for the rest of the day to make up for your cancellation (I never said anything about you paying for another customers time). I gave you the option to keep that time or push it back a little. You then proceeded to yell at me and tell me you didn’t care about my other customer and you demanded more time than what you had paid for (I had originally planned extra time for you before you canceled). You continued to threaten me with negative reviews and bad mouth me. Yes, I am a small business and if I don’t work I am unable to make a living. Unfortunately, this type of situation is why we started implementing a cancellation fee. I appreciate my customer who was able to move their day around and meet last minute and they did not deserve to have their day rearranged again. I’m sorry this happened the way it did but I hope you can see things through a small businesses point of view. All the best, Dave"
When David took off the bathroom switch plate to change one of the dimmer switches that was faulty, he noticed that the switches were not properly installed. He replaced the one defective dimmer switch and correctly rewired the other two switches. After completing the repair, he suggested to me that I could use 75 watt led light bulbs instead of the 100 watt led light bulbs that came with the fixtures. The use of less wattage would still give me the light I needed and prolong the life of the dimmer light switch. I did replace the 100 watt led bulbs with 75 watt led bulbs making the light from the fixtures much easier on my eyes. Thank you David for the very useful suggestion.
I will definitely use DTS Electric again.
"[Removed member information], I am very disheartened to see that you have waited almost a year to contact me. If there is ever any problem you can reach out to me directly at any time. First, I would like to address the "hardwood" floor you spoke of. It was rotted plywood subfloor that you and the contractor said was going to be replaced by him (Not hardwood flooring). As such, we agreed I could pull up a strip about 2x5 foot long to run wires, which I screwed back in place for safety. The key was left for the contractor as he had left it for me, which is how he requested it back. Being as you lived in New York and had not moved in yet, I did request a deposit. Instead, you chose to send me the total cost of the job ($600.00) and said you didn't mind. All outlets were tested by myself and all were operating properly when I left the job (1-240v dryer, 1 washer, 1-240v ac in living room and one kitchen outlet). We were then scheduled to meet and walk through the job after you moved in on 09/08/14. I had arrived at 8am as scheduled and waited out front with another contractor which had arrive at the same time. We both knocked and called with no answer. After waiting 45 minutes and several messages later we both decided to leave. I left a door hanger proving I was there.Since then I haven't heard back and assumed everything was fine. As a small business owner, I always strive to please my customers 100%. Anytime there is any discretion I need to be contacted immediately so I can fix whatever the problem may be. Thank you, Dave"
Dave was very professional and explained what he would be doing in detail. I had very high expectations for Dave as he has received great reviews on Angie's List and a co-worker had used his services for their home project.
The reason I gave Dave a rating of a C is as follows:
1.) He damaged the crown molding in our living room while drilling one of the access holes to run the wire. It was not major, but I brought it to his attention and he responded as if it was not a big deal. Any damage to a customer's home should be viewed as a significant issue in my opinion and warranted considerations.
2.) Our 4 recessed lights are not exactly symmetrical as Dave's only measurement tool was a tape measure. I had expected more precise measurements for recessed lighting.
3.) I presented him the 10% off Angie's List Coupon and although he did accept it, he was reluctant based upon difficulty of job as he put it. I was unclear what he meant since we had reviewed job scope prior to beginning, but as I mentioned he did accept.
4.) He left without installing a switch cover, which is very minor however shows completeness of the job.
The entire project took approximately 4.5 hours.
"Hello [member name removed], I'm Sorry to hear you were not 100% satisfied. I try my hardest to please every one of my costumers, although sometimes it is harder than others. I would like to address all of your concerns. (1) There was no damage done to the crown molding the paint was just rubbed off where I had to drill close to it. Seeing as the ceiling had to be pained anyway due to the work that had to be done for the recessed lights it shouldn't be a worry. (2) The tape measure is the most common tool for measuring in the construction trade. The two recessed that you are referring to had to be put in a different bay due to existing duct work that I made you aware of and could not be moved.(every job is different) (3) The price that was given to you was a rough estimate without seeing the job because you wanted to get me on the schedule as soon as possible. There were extra costs that were incorporated with the duct work being in the way but I kept the price the same. So instead of raising the price I had asked you to split the 10% to 5% which you refused and I excepted because I would rather make a costumer happy. (4) The switch cover that I had so called left off was left off because you had specifically told me not to put it on. You were going to provide a custom one that matched the rest of the house and with several outlet covers already off before I had arrived I didn't see a problem. If you have any further concerns feel free to contact me any time. Thanks, Dave"
"Hello [member name removed], I'm sorry if there was any miscommunication but I had told you the price would be between 250-300 dollars before we had even scheduled the work due to you being an hour and a half away from me. With tolls and fuel costs it came to $315.00 but I did work with you at the cash price. If you have any further questions please feel free to give me a call. Thanks, Dave"
