Called and described the problem to Jon, the owner.
He provided the names of the chemicals they would use, so I was able to look them up on the internet. Internet research agreed with what he described in terms of product effectiveness and safety to pets, etc.
He and his crew came out w/in two days. He investigated the upstairs interior where we saw the ants, and in the basement climbed our ladder to remove suspended ceiling panels to view the area. He did a thorough look around the basement, even pointing out areas that we hadn't noticed.
He sprayed the interior and the crew sprayed the exterior (using a compressor, not hand-held equipment.)
He offers tiered pricing, based on the amount of time you'd like the work to be warranted. This is nice, as you can decide what is appropriate for yourself. We selected the 90-day warranty, which was the lowest price tier.

In December 2012 I noticed that ants kept appearing in my dining room. I called Carnegie Exterminators and they came to my house the same day. They diagnosed them as carpenter ants and treated the dining room and kitchen with a pet-safe product. They explained how it would work over time as the ants tracked it back to their nest. It worked because I'm no longer seeing ants and I'm looking for them.
In April 2013, I called them back about tiny beetles that I found in my carpet after bringing a couple old cat beds up from the basement. John told me they were carpet beetles and he treated the rooms where the old cat beds had been - no more beetles.
I'm very happy with this company and would definitely use them again. There are no contracts to sign and they don't try to keep coming back for unnecessary future treatments.

They were excellent. They came on the said day and took care of it real quick.

They are friendly and their service is very good. If there are ever any issues, they some back and make it right.

The company was recommended by our realtor. Upon receipt, the report indicated that the inspection included only the exterior of the house. The realtor told me she was present and the inspection included the interior. I called Carnegie and asked why the report only included the exterior. The person I spoke with told me that carpenter ants were discovered. When I asked why that was not indicated on the report, he told me he got confused with another house. I asked that the report be revised to accurately reflect which areas of the house, exterior and interior, were inspected and what the actual findings were. THe person on the phone was very rude and indicated to me that his word was good enough and I did not need a revised report. I complained to the realtor. At the closing, I saw a new report which indicated that the exterior and interior were examined and no pests or termites were discovered. However, this new report was never directly given to me by Carnegie Exterminators (or the realtor for that matter). I found this company to be extremely unprofessional and rude, although the price for the inspection ($45) was cheap.

John Vogel talked to me when I phoned and clearly explained the procedure involved to correct the problem. He and a technician arrived as scheduled; power washed the siding and sprayed a chemical to destroy larvae. They guarantee their work. I was pleased with their prompt action and I have had no problems since.

Over a weekend my house was invaded by carpenter ants. dozens at a time were marching in from the breakfast nook, through the kitchen, to my front door. It was horrible. I consulted Angie's List and chose him because he was local, not connected with a big company. I called on a Sunday. He returned my call early Monday morning and said that even though his schedule was full, he would work me in at the end of the day because it appeared to be an emergency. He came very late that afternoon and treated the property. He did not try to push an extended contract on me -- although I'll probably call him again for some maintenance. He said it would take up to two weeks for the ants to completely disappear, but they were gone within two days.

I liked that it was not a large chain and they didn't charge much for the work. They told me the chemical they sprayed would only last for 6 months, so I will definitely call them back after that.

Overall, I couldn't be more satisfied with a job well done, as well as a quick response to a problem, carpenter ants.
